Andy Muschietti has talked about the box office gloom of The Flash. He has some slightly odd reasons, including the lack of women in the audience.

When The Flash finally arrived in cinemas in 2023, it debuted with a sustaind blitz of hype that memorably included a grand claim by Warner Bros chief David Zazlav that it was 'the best superhero film’ that he’d ever seen. The Flash was not the best superhero film that anybody had ever seen, including Zazlav (unless of course the head of one of Hollywood’s most storied studios doesn’t watch many films?) and after delays and all sorts of public problems, the film underperformed critically and commerically. In our review, James Harvey did call it 'the best superhero movie of that week’, so there’s that accolade, at least.

Warner Bros Discovery is circling a possible merger with Paramount – but that’d put its CEO, David Zaslav, in charge of two studios. Sigh.

I’ve never met David Zaslav.

For all I know, the CEO of Warner Bros Discovery may be a lovely, caring man. He may spend his evenings devouring movies, checking on the wellbeing of his staff, and adopting puppies. I hope that’s the case.

This piece isn’t about the personal side of the man. There’s too much of that out there in entertainment reporting, and I want no part of it.

Almost as much as, on a professional level, I want David Zaslav to have no part at all of Paramount Pictures. I think he’s become a totem for much that’s wrong with modern movie studios.

Step into an eerily familiar, dystopian London in the first trailer for Kibwe Tavares and Daniel Kaluuya’s The Kitchen.

Daniel Kaluuya is just the latest actor to step behind the camera and try their hand at directing. The Oscar winner has teamed up with Kibwe Tavares to bring to life a dystopian vision of London and we have it on very good authority that the film is pretty special.

The Ghostly Trio, consisting of Stretch, Fatso, and Stinkie, play a key role in Casper's comedy and are known for scaring the living. Stretch is the tallest and most aggressive of the trio, voiced by Joe Nipote, while Fatso is corpulent and dim-witted, voiced by Brad Garrett. Besides being shows about vampires and romance, The Vampire Diaries and True Blood featured a lot of actors who appeared in both series. Spanning over eight seasons and two spinoffs called The Originals and Legacies, The Vampire Diaries followed the denizens of Mystic Falls and the eternal struggles between vampires and various other magical folks. Because the show was known for its romance and visual appeal, it utilized a host of young stars whose work on the series landed them roles elsewhere. Even the smallest role in The Vampire Diaries was a mark of success for an up-and-coming actor.

Airing at around the same time in the late 2000s, the HBO original series True Blood was quite similar to The Vampire Diaries though it wasn't constrained by basic cable censorship. TV shows like True Blood also needed a large cast of guest stars, and the crossover appeal between the two audiences was quite natural.

Amazon Studios’ first pilot season of 2015 will debut Thursday, Jan. 15, unveiling seven drama and comedy projects as well as a half-dozen kid-centric pilots.

Already due to debut via Amazon Studios this year are the first full seasons of Bosch, Hand of God and Red Oaks, plus Season 2 of Transparent. (Chris Carter’s The After meanwhile just had its series order scrapped.)

Amazon is entering pilot season strong with seven pilots for shows with big names attached. Manchester City won a tough match against promoted Southampton, fighting back from 2-1 down to win the match 3-2 in the Premier League this afternoon. Goals from Carlos Tevez, Eden Dzeko and Samir Nasri were enough to see off the visitors, who scored through substitutes Rickie Lambert and Steven Davis.

City gave a debut to summer signing Jack Rodwell, and Joe Hart returned in goal, while Southampton handed a league debut to seventeen year old James Ward-Prowse, plus Saints debuts for Jay Rodriguez and Nathaniel Clyne.

Southampton started off the better team and showed composure in possession. After Sergio Aguero was carried off injured after a tackle from Clyne, City reacted and won a penalty when Carlos Tevez was fouled by Hooiveld after a lovely through ball flick from Samir Nasri. David Silva’s tame penalty was saved, however, and Southampton were at the very least City’s equals in the first half hour.

From the assistant director of 3 Ninjas: Knuckle Up comes an apocalyptic vision of a frozen hell on earth. Sounds like Alberta, Canada. The film is called 10,000 Days and the first trailer premiered a while ago. Not sure how we missed this one as it looks impressive considering the budget, but hey, you can't be everywhere, right?

Synopsis:

10,000 days ago, Comet 23 struck the Pacific Ocean with the magnitude of all the nuclear weapons in the world. The Best Family was among the lucky few who survived the heat blast and fire storms. And then the freezing began. The comet knocked the Earth away from the sun, encasing the planet in snow and ice. For those who survived, life was violent and dangerous.

The daily battle wasn't just against the punishing climate but against each other for the basic necessities that meant life or death. Still, the weather was growing colder and the ice was expanding.

Another outstanding episode! Does anyone else think this season might be the best one yet?

Sookie (Anna Paquin) and Eric (Alexander Skarsgard) continued playing the world’s most awkward game of “house” ever on the July 3 episode of True Blood, and I’m really starting to wonder what’s wrong with Sookie. A rich, hot, powerful vampire is throwing himself at her, and she won’t even give him a chance? This girl needs to get her head examined!

Speaking of heads, Sookie is about to have a whole new pile of Eric troubles after his encounter with the witches this week. Bill (Stephen Moyer) sent Eric to break up Marnie’s (Fiona Shaw) coven, and just as his plan seemed to be going smoothly, Marnie whipped out her most terrifying spell yet. Channeling all sorts of freaky spirits, Marnie put a curse on the Nordic Wonder and totally wiped out his memory!

If you watched the last episode of "True Blood", then you know just how broken things are for the show's lead characters. Here are two clips from the upcoming Episode 33, "Everything Is Broken", in which hopefully they'll begin to put the pieces back together.

And the body count continues piling up in this crazy, sexy, and bloody Season Three of HBO's "True Blood". Who bit the bullet (or rather, the stake) last night? We're not telling in the interest of avoiding spoilers for those who aren't quite caught up yet, but as is our typical Monday tradition, here are the Post Mortem and Inside the Episode for the just completed Episode 32, "Night on the Sun".

Well now, that was not for the squeamish, was it? I'm the wuss who had to turn away a couple of times, especially when Tara was onscreen. Girlfriend had a lot of rage she needed to get out and did she ever. Oh Franklin, we never knew ye! Fare thee well on the other side, my psychotic friend. It was good to see a little bit of the old, feisty Tara using her brain and standing up for herself. On the flip side of the coin, who the hell is writing dialogue for Sookie? Just when I thought she couldn't be more dim, the words that came out of her mouth - they were really just horrifyingly stupid.

HBO is shopping around reruns to commercial cable networks. That would be an easy sell for the network, but a few previously sold HBO shows didn't do very well in repeats at their new homes: "True Blood" creator Alan Ball's "Six Feet Under" for Bravo, "Entourage" for Spike,  and "The Sopranos" for A&E. Season Three of Alan Ball's "True Blood" has been hot and heavy and loaded with surprises, and from the synopses released today by HBO for Episodes 31-35, it shows no signs of slowing down in the slightest.

Sadly, these episodes take us almost to the end of the season (it's short but sweet), and there's no mention of Franklin.
