Like the rest of us, David S. Goyer is wondering why Marvel Studios is having so much trouble cracking the long-awaited Blade reboot starring Mahershala Ali, and has offered his services to Kevin Feige should he need any help getting the project back on track.

Goyer, who wrote the scripts for all three movies in the original Blade trilogy and directed 2004's Blade: Trinity, was asked if he would have any interest in writing the MCU reboot during an interview with Screen Rant.

“I would. I’ve always loved the character and I love him. I’ve been sitting on the sidelines wondering, ‘What in the world is going on? Why is it taking so long?’ Because I’m a huge Marvel fan myself, and I’ve just been totally puzzled.”

Sam Zimmerman has been promoted to Senior Vice President of Programming and Acquisitions at Shudder, the horror-focused streaming service of AMC Networks, the company announced on Thursday.

Most recently serving as VP of Programming, Zimmerman is personally involved in nearly every aspect of Shudder, including the detailed curation of the streamer’s content. Going forward, he will continue to lead programming for Shudder as it marks its 10-year anniversary. Based in New York, he will continue to work alongside SVP of Acquisitions and Productions, Emily Gotto, and report to Scott Shooman, Head of AMC Networks’ Film Group, encompassing IFC Films, Rlje Films and Shudder’s film division.

The fact that there was going to be a Blade reboot as part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, starring Mashershala Ali in the title role, came as a huge surprise when the announcement was made at the San Diego Comic-Con back in July of 2019… but we’re coming up on the six year anniversary of that announcement, and we still haven’t seen a new Blade movie. The closest we’ve gotten is Ali making a vocal cameo as the character at the end of Eternals back in 2021. Now, we don’t know if we’re going to get a Blade reboot at all – but we have received confirmation that, at some point in the development process, the movie was going to be set in the 1920s and the plan was for recording artist Flying Lotus, who recently made his feature directorial debut with the sci-fi horror film Ash, to provide some music for it.

Blade fans are still patiently awaiting an update on the Marvel film's release. Although it currently seems like it's nowhere in the near future, they still get excited about what "could've been." The film has had various planned release dates, with the latest being November 2025; however, that's no longer happening, and no replacement dates have been shared as before. While many dedicated fans imagine what the film would've looked like, there's no need to guess who would've produced its music. The Grammy Award-winning record producer, Flying Lotus, has now revealed that he was set to produce music for Blade and is holding onto a glimmer of hope that he'll still get the chance...if the MCU reboot ever happens.

Flying Lotus, also known as FlyLo, revealed in an X (formerly Twitter) post that he was indeed signed on to write music for the Marvel film before it was removed from release.

In 2019, Marvel announced they would do a reboot of the popular “Blade” character in the MCU starring Mahershala Ali. Over the years, the film was pushed back due to Covid and then the Hollywood strikes, and now the rumors indicate the film is shelved or canceled.

Originally, Kevin Feige said the film would release on November 3, 2023, with filming beginning in early October 2022 and wrapping in January 2o23. Eventually, the film was given a November 2025 release date, but that too has been removed.

Throughout the production of “Blade” a parade of people associated with the film dropped out, including Bassam Tariq, Yann Demange, Damián García, and several different writers.

Recently, there has been discussion and rumors indicating that the film has been shelved for now.

Though Blade was removed from Marvel Studios' slate late last year, we had heard that the movie was simply delayed and would eventually move forward. Unfortunately, this no longer seems to be the case.

Despite recent reports that the MCU reboot was still on track to commence production in the UK at some point later this year, insider Daniel Richtman claims to have confirmed that Blade has now been put "on indefinite hold."

Backing up this claim is recording artist/DJ Flying Lotus, aka Steven Ellison, who has taken to X to reveal that he had signed on to write the music for the project before things fell through - and he does not sound optimistic about the film getting back on track.

I guess we are so far from it even being a possibility now but. Yeah I was signed on to write music for the new Blade movie before it fell thru.

It’s been a while since we’ve gotten any official updates on Marvel’s planned Blade reboot movie, which was originally announced way back in 2019. While Wesley Snipes did reprise his iconic role as New Line’s Daywalker in Deadpool & Wolverine last year, the character’s official introduction to the Marvel Cinematic Universe still seems to be no closer to reality.

It’s no secret that the brand new Blade movie has been bumped all over the release calendar the last several years, and it’s currently without a date at all after getting pulled from its most recent theatrical release date of November 7, 2025. Not helping is that the movie is without a director at the moment, with Yann Demange (“Lovecraft Country”) departing the project in the wake of Bassam Tariq (Mogul Mowgli) exiting the film back in 2022.

When does your inspiration become so heavy that the creation ceases to have an existence on its own? American music producer turned filmmaker Flying Lotus’ (popularly known as FlyLo) “Ash” is a sci-fi horror that never offers a shred of originality. I mean filmmakers have been inspired by other movies for as long as the beginning of motion picture itself. Still, when your final product has nothing to offer beyond just elevated horror vibes, there’s a big hole in the continuum that cannot be filled.

The plot of “Ash” follows Riya (Eiza González), an astronaut who wakes up in her space station with her memory almost completely wiped out. Her physical attributes, her training, and her work are still intact in her core, but whatever wiped out all of her crew, who she finds splattered around the space vessel with their heads smashed to smithereens, is nowhere to be...

As Sundance Film Festival kicks off, the next major American film festival has unveiled its lineup. SXSW 2025’s slate includes the premieres of the latest films from Michael Bay, Chad Hartigan, Flying Lotus, Mimi Cave, Jay Duplass, Babak Anvari, Rodney Ascher, and more. But first, last year’s SXSW winner of the Grand Jury Award and Audience Award in the Narrative Feature categories, Tracie Laymon’s Bob Trevino Likes It, will arrive on March 21 and Roadside Attractions has unveiled the first trailer.

Among the titles in this year’s festival include Ben Affleck sequel “The Accountant 2,” A24’s “Death of a Unicorn,” and an opening night screening of Seth Rogen’s new Apple TV+ series “The Studio” — “alongside a broad slate of Feature Films, TV projects, and Xr Experiences” (according to the official release).

South by Southwest (SXSW) Conference and Festivals has unveiled the first wave of its film and TV lineup for the 32nd edition, which begins with with an Opening Night TV Premiere of the eagerly-anticipated Apple TV+ series “The Studio” starring Seth Rogen, who also serves as writer, director, and executive producer alongside Evan Goldberg.

The lineup for the SXSW film and TV festival has been announced with new projects from Seth Rogen, Ben Affleck, Jenn Ortega and Nicole Kidman set to premiere at the Austin fest.

Rogen and Evan Goldberg’s Hollywood-set comedy series The Studio will kick off SXSW as the opening night TV screening. Rogen stars as the newly appointed head of an embattled studio as he and his executives struggle to make their movies relevant.

“The same undeniable creative electricity in The Studio runs through our 2025 program — you can feel a bit of magic happening in every film, series, and immersive experience we’ve curated this year,” said festival head Claudette Godfrey. “From groundbreaking independent films to unforgettable studio premieres and documentary revelations to genre-defying experiments, this lineup celebrates the fearless storytellers who make SXSW so unique.”

While David Lynch never directed another feature film after the 2006 release of Inland Empire, he nevertheless remained quite busy over the last 19 years of his life. The biggest and most famous project from this era was the long-awaited third season of Twin Peaks (from Showtime in 2017), for which Lynch directed and co-wrote every episode. But most of Lynch's artistic output during this post-movie period saw him branch out into mediums outside of film and television, including music, painting, writing, and even YouTube. Furthermore, Lynch directed a number of short films, music videos, and TV commercials, often in collaboration with other artists and organizations.

Nor did Lynch ever stop trying to get another feature film or serialized TV series off the ground. Even just five months before his death, he steadfastly promised in a post onTwitter/X that he would "never retire," despite his recent emphysema diagnosis rendering him unable to leave his house.

Iconic filmmaker David Lynch died on January 16th at the age of 78. Artists, creatives, and members of the film community at large took to social media to express their gratitude for Lynch’s visionary, distinct work.

Longtime collaborator and friend Kyle MacLachlan wrote a lengthy tribute on Instagram, saying he owed “my entire career, and life really” to Lynch’s vision. “I will miss him more than the limits of my language can tell and my heart can bear,” he said. “My world is that much fuller because I knew him and that much emptier now that he’s gone.”

Naomi Watts, who starred in Mulholland Drive, said her “heart is broken.” She added, “The world will not be the same without him. His creative mentorship was truly powerful. He put me on the map.”

Rlje Films and Shudder have unveiled the first teaser poster for their new sci-fi horror “Ash.” The second feature from Grammy-winner Steven Ellison, aka Flying Lotus, is set for a wide theatrical release on March 21, 2025.

The official synopsis reads: “On the mysterious planet of Ash, Riya (Eiza González) awakens to find her crew slaughtered. When a man named Brion (Aaron Paul) arrives to rescue her, an ordeal of psychological and physical terror ensues while Riya and Brion must decide if they can trust one another to survive.”

Additional cast members include Iko Uwais, Beulah Koale, Kate Elliott, Beulah Koale, Ellison and Andrew B. Miller.

Ellison serves as the film’s composer as well as director. Jonni Remmler penned the script. Nate Bolotin of XYZ Films and Matthew Metcalfe of Gfc Films serve as producers. Executive producers include Neill Blomkamp and Echo Lake Entertainment. Rjle Films serves as distributor.

Genre-blending artist, actor, and filmmaker Flying Lotus has unveiled a surprise EP titled Spirit Box, his first non-soundtrack project since 2019. Stream it below.

While Steven Ellison (Flying Lotus) is often inspired by influences from anime to outer space, Spirit Box pulls from the mystical and supernatural. According to a statement about the eight-track offering, “Spirit Box arriving near Halloween is no coincidence — it’s a time where everyone gets the chance to transform into something different, something surprising, maybe even something scary.”

The versatile creator has used this project as an official foray into house music, highlighting elements of dance and electronica more than ever before. Apparently this is less experimental and more "contained" than Kuso, with a full-on production budget. He shot it down in Nz: "People go to New Zealand to shoot sci-fi and fantasy movies, so I was [working with] all these people who worked on The Lord of the Rings and other Peter Jackson and James Cameron stuff." Ash stars Eiza González, Aaron Paul, Iko Uwais, Kate Elliott, Beulah Koale, and Flying Lotus himself. Whoa this looks rad! Hell yes!

Rlje Films and Shudder have acquired Ash, a new sci-fi horror film from Grammy Award Winner and filmmaker Flying Lotus (aka Steven Ellison). The news comes from Shudder’s New York Comic Con panel today, where the streaming service also unveiled a trippy, violent first look trailer.

Rlje will release Ash in theaters wide in 2025, followed by a streaming debut on Shudder.

Lotus has released seven studio albums, but he actually attended the Los Angeles Film School and Academy of Art University, and he’s putting his film degree to good use with his latest cinematic effort, “Ash.”

Justin Long, Jermaine Fowler and Rj Cyler are starring in Night Patrol, an indie horror feature from director and co-writer Ryan Prows.

David S. Goyer and Keith Levine are producing via the duo’s Phantom Four banner. Also producing is Josh Goldbloom, known for the recent V/H/S horror entries. James Harris and Mark Lane of Tea Shop Films (47 Meters Down) are also producing the movie, which wrapped principal photography in Los Angeles this week.

Dermot Mulroney and WWE superstar Cm Punk have key roles, while Freddie Gibbs (Down With The King), Yg (White Boy Rick), Flying Lotus (Ash) Jon Oswald (Lowlife) and Nicki Micheaux (Lowlife) round out the cast.

In Patrol, an LAPD officer (Fowler) must put aside his differences with the area’s street gangs when he discovers a local police task force is harboring a horrific secret that endangers the residents of the housing projects he grew up in.

“The Ritual,” the upcoming exorcism horror in which Al Pacino and Dan Stevens play troubled priests, has sold out for most international territories by XYZ Films.

From director David Midell, the film was written by Midell and Enrico Natale, and produced by Andrew Stevens, Mitchell Welch and Natale. Ashley Greene and Abigail Cowen round out the cast.

XYZ, which has been quietly growing its own releasing arm on top of its sales operations, is planning a U.S. theatrical release in 2025.

Based on a true story, “The Ritual” follows two priests — one questioning his faith (Stevens) and one reckoning with a troubled past (Pacino) — who must put aside their differences to save a possessed young woman through a difficult and dangerous series of exorcisms. The film is an authentic portrayal of Emma Schmidt, an American woman whose demonic possession culminated in harrowing exorcisms. Her case remains the most thoroughly documented exorcism in American history.

Across a nearly 20-year career, Flying Lotus has built up quite the resume: six albums, dozens of film scores, high profile collaborations, and apparently, two iPhone ringtones that have been on devices since the 2019 launch of iOS 13.

The contributions were confirmed by the Apple podcast Twenty Thousand Hertz, which takes a deep dive into recognizable and ubiquitous sounds and breaks them down note by note. Their latest episode focuses on “The Sounds of Apple” and follows the origins of several ringtones. Two of them, “Daybreak” and “Chalet,” were credited to Steve Ellison — A.K.A. Flying Lotus.
