Aaron Sorkin at an event for Hunger Games : La Révolte, partie 1 (2014)
‘Be More Chill’, ‘Pretty Woman’ Top Broadway’s Audience Choice Awards
Aaron Sorkin at an event for Hunger Games : La Révolte, partie 1 (2014)
Exclusive: Audiences don’t alway see eye to eye with Tony voters, as we see again in this year’s Audience Choice Awards from Broadway.com. Presented exclusively to Deadline for today’s reveal, the fan-selected top winners are Be More Chill, Pretty Woman and American Son, none of which scored Tony noms for best musical or play.

And Aaron Sorkin’s To Kill A Mockingbird, snubbed by Tony as best play, was named just that by audiences.

This year – the awards’ 20th – Be More Chill tops the list with four awards, including Favorite New Musical, Favorite Featured Actor in a Musical (George Salazar), and – in very non-Tony-like categories, Favorite Funny Performance (Stephanie Hsu) and Favorite Onstage Pair (Will Roland and George Salazar).

Coming in with three awards was Pretty Woman – The Musical: Favorite Leading Actor/Musical (Andy Karl), Favorite Featured Actress/Musical (Orfeh), and, again in a non-Tony-ish achievement,...

Benjamin Walker Joins Broadway’s ‘All My Sons’ Production
Benjamin Walker
Benjamin Walker, a Broadway star since his 2010 breakthrough in Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson, will join Annette Bening and Tracy Letts in the Roundabout Theater Company’s upcoming revival of Arthur Miller’s All My Sons.

Normally, that casting alone would garner attention in the theater community. But today’s casting announcement by the Roundabout also included confirmation that one – though not both – of the casting choices over which previous director Gregory Mosher resigned in December had been fulfilled.

Nearly two months after Mosher quit the production over disagreements about color-blind casting, Shades of Blue‘s Hampton Fluker, widely believed to be one of the actors Mosher wanted, will indeed play George Deever, a traditionally white character (Fluker is black) in the revival now being directed by Jack O’Brien, who took over when Mosher resigned over a casting disagreement with Rebecca Miller, who runs the estate of her father Arthur Miller.

Porno for Playgoers
The Performers

Abandon all hope of stumbling on substance, ye who enter the Longacre Theatre to see its current showing centered on the world of porn. But if you're looking for some off-color, down-and-dirty humor, you could do a lot worse. The Performers is best summed up by one of its own flippant film titles, "I ate Chinese and now I'm hungry"; it's no main course of theater, but it might leave you wanting some more.

For all his profanity, playwright David West Read actually keeps it pretty clean for a piece about the porn industry. Writing with sitcom precision and timing, Read keeps a quick pace,...
