Broadway Performers Record Song, Video To Launch “The Walkout Project” Supporting Black-Owned Businesses
Image
Stage actor and writer Sidney DuPont has gathered a group of Broadway and Off Broadway performers to launch “The Walkout Project,” a movement to urge the exclusive patronage of Black-owned businesses on July 4.

DuPont and a large ensemble that includes Hamilton’s Tamar Greene and Jared Dixon have recorded the new song and music video “Walkout,” dropping tomorrow on the holiday.

Watch a trailer below.

“Black people have lived in fear,” DuPont said in a statement. “We have been methodically, systematically, and socially conditioned to make white people feel comfortable. We have done this to elevate in the workplace, for better housing opportunities, and for the basic safety of our lives and our Black children’s lives. And yet still, we are killed, beaten, and heavily policed. The Walkout Project was created by artists to cancel out the mentality of white comfortability...

Review: Irving Berlin's "Holiday Inn" At The Papermill Playhouse, Millburn, New Jersey
By Lee Pfeiffer

Those of us who share the rather unusual- and sometimes bizarre-profession of reviewing films for a living all share a nasty little secret: there are countless classic movies that we haven't seen. I'm not alone in making this mea culpa. No less than the late, great Robert Osborne, whose insightful introductions on Turner Classic Movies helped launch that channel's success, once confided in me that even he could list numerous classic movies that he had yet to catch up with. When he confessed this to Lauren Bacall, she told him that she envied him because she wish she could recapture the sheer joy of seeing a great film for the first time. I've never seen the 1942 musical "Holiday Inn". I can't say why but perhaps it's because that as a boy growing up in the Sixties, such productions seemed quaint and unappealing when I had a celluloid tidal wave of WWII flicks,...

The Top 40 Hottest Guys of New York Theater!
It's no surprise that summer tends to bring out the hottest guys in New York. And as the dog days of summer start to wane on the streets of the Big Apple, it's time to once again turn our attention to where the hottest of the hot like to spend their time: the New York stage.

Sure, movies and television have their share of rippling abs, but glimpsing a hottie on the screen is nothing compared to the live, in-the-flesh experience. So without further ado, we present the Hottest Guys of New York Theater!

Cesar Abreu

Ricky Martin isn't the only sexy stud to come to us via the pop group Menudo - we can thank our lucky stars we also get the stunning, studly Cesar Abreu. Currently dancing for the Metropolitan Opera, Cesar has also, unsurprisingly, been featured many times in the annual stripfest Broadway Bares.

Nick Adams

No stranger to this list,...

News: Amy Locane Manslaughter Trial, Natalia Livington's Farmhouse, Nicholas Rodriguez
Amy Locane-Bovenizer Car Crash: Melrose Place Actress Giggled After Fatal Crash

A police officer says an actress who had appeared in the original Melrose Place was giggling and laughing after a motor vehicle crash that killed a New Jersey woman. The officer says Amy Locane-Bovenizer said police and emergency personnel were "being overly dramatic."

The Courier News of Bridgewater reports Montgomery Police Officer William Wilkes testified Monday during a hearing to determine whether statements the actress made to police after the June 2010 crash will be admissible at her trial.

Locane-Bovenizer is charged with aggravated manslaughter stemming from the death of 60-year-old Helene Seeman.

Natalia Livingston turns farmhouse into country retreat

“We have a great vision for it. There are lot of different areas of possible use,” said Livingston who resides in Los Angeles. "We started thinking this would be an ideal location for films."

New York's 39 Hottest Guys in Theater!
A little over two years ago, AfterElton.com brought readers a list of the 37 Hottest Guys in Theater, and since then, the New York Stage has only become increasingly sexified. The lines between Broadway and Hollywood continue to blur, and as young men come to recognition in NYC, they're often quickly whisked away to Tinseltown to showcase not only their amazing talent, but often they're breathtaking good looks.

While it's tempting to include every Hollywood hottie who graces the stage on this list (a certain Lee Pace and Luke Macfarlane spring to mind), the point here is to honor the men who are mostly known for rockin' the live stages here in New York.

And so, without further ado, we present, in alphabetical order, the list (39!) of this year's hottest guys in theater!

Nick Adams

A perennial AfterElton favorite, the muscular, openly gay Nick first made waves a few years...

Are Ricky martin and Carlos Gonzalez getting married? If so, can I be the ring bearer? Robyn has always felt like an outsider, and she thinks that's part of the reason why she has such a loyal gay following; "I think the gay community just gets me, and I'm very lucky to have that audience — it's a very loyal and dedicated audience." Below you can see the latest episode of the web series Then We Got Help, featuring Ae favorite Nicholas Rodriguez as Danny, who in workout...

Morning Meme: Ask Matthew Morrison, "Fabulous High" Needs Your Help, Psychoanalyzing Almodovar, and More!
Ed is traveling back home after giving his speech last night (I hope he took my advice and pictured everyone in jockstraps), so I'll be handling the Meme. How many can you name?

Broadway hottie (and one of the stars of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert) Will Swenson will direct a feature film version of Carol Lynn Pearson’s play Facing East, about a Mormon couple who grapple with their faith after the suicide of their gay son. A portion of the film's profits will benefit The Trevor Project.

Ramin Gets it Wrong Again. Anyone Surprised?
Neil Patrick Harris holding his Emmys

Given all of the outrageous and inaccurate things Newsweek "journalist" Ramin Setoodeh has said in the past, it's no surprise that his latest attempt to play the victim ("the gay media elite is mean to me!") over on The Daily Beast is as poorly written and reasoned as his usual work. But this time it also includes a mention of us that completely misrepresents the article it references. (We also write about the rest of Setoodeh's bait-and-switch/I'm a victim! argument.)

In an attempt to obfuscate and distract his past observations about gay actors being unable to play straight roles, Setoodeh changes the subject to the fact that according to him the Hollywood powers that be don't seem willing to cast gay actors in gay parts. To support his claim, he references our article 2010: The Year Gay TV Grew Up and writes "The blog AfterElton.

Ask the Flying Monkey: Does the Fashion Industry Hate Women Because it’s Made up of Gay Men?
This week: Judgmental lesbians, gay humor that isn’t offensive, how to deal with lying, anti-gay sacks of s**t!

Have a question about gay male entertainment? Contact me here (and be sure and include your city and state and/or country!)

Q: I was having a discussion with a lesbian on the hideous impact the fashion industry has had on women. As a fat girl and a lover of fashion, I'm pretty vocal on how I feel about the industry -- that is, if Karl Lagerfeld were ever to cross my path, I will throw sandwiches at him. The lesbian I was talking with about that happily agreed. Then the debate soured. Her explanation on the body issues in the fashion industry? It's because it's run by gay men, and, of course, they're not attracted to curves so they make their models look like "young boys." Naturally this infuriated me,...

Also, find out if the second episode of Raw is any better than the first and see what happens when Lucas asks Marco what he wants from him on the German version of Good Times, Bad Times.

How was Dr. Reid Oliver’s debut last week?

In Gool Scoops And Spoilers, Kyle and Oliver discover their lives are getting much more complicated by the baby drama on Oltl and Luke learns just how evil his bio-dad Damian can be on As the World Turns.

AfterElton.com's 2009 Visibility Awards!
What?! It’s not enough that we spent the whole year providing you with insightful news and analysis on gay and bisexual entertainment – now we have to pick which 2009 projects we think best represented gay and bisexual men?!

Sorry, we’re getting a little Grinch-y around here come year-end.

But the fact is, gay and bisexual entertainment-related news is inexorably linked with the issue of visibility. If you know anything at all about the history of such entertainment, you know that it’s almost always been “controversial.” As passionate as the creators of these projects have always been, there’s been a similarly strong counter-pressure to keep these themes hidden or under wraps.

As a result, for a website like ours, covering the “news” of these projects inevitably becomes a question of championing the ones of quality (and giving the hook to those who don’t measure up, or that...

Gays of our Lives (November 17, 2009)
This week one of our biggest editions of Gays of Our Lives ever includes an interview with One Life to Live head writer Ron Carlivati, responsible for the Kyle/Oliver love story that has had daytime talking and made instant stars out of Brett Claywell, who plays Kyle Lewis, and Scott Evans, who plays Oliver Fish. We talk about the creation of the storyline, how the actors felt when they learned about the plot twist and why Kish has became such a sensation.

Plus, we find out what’s next for Llanview’s gays. Where do Oliver and Kyle go from here? Is Kyle’s ex Nick (Nicholas Rodriguez) out of the picture? And what about that baby that Oliver unknowingly fathered? We cover all of that and more in our interview.

In Gool Theater, we’ve got some rather steamy and romantic clips from One Life to Live as...

“One Life to Live”’s Gay Love Triangle is Truly Groundbreaking Television
If you’ve ever doubted how quickly the world can change once an impasse is broken, consider the incredible case of the ABC soap opera One Life to Live, which is currently featuring a complicated love triangle among three gay male characters. Next week, two of them are planning to participate in a mass “protest” gay wedding ceremony that will also include a (faked) lesbian marriage involving one of the show’s long-time female characters.

But just two years ago, viewers of the CBS soap As the World Turns were growing increasingly frustrated because it seemed clear that the producers of that show were not allowing its two gay teen characters to kiss — a controversy that eventually spilled over into the mainstream media.

As the World Turn’s gay kissing moratorium was finally broken on April 23, 2008 — 211 eleven days after the characters kissed for the first time. But even then, it...
