Tamara de Lempicka Is Finally Having Her Moment

It was in 1990, when a then 21-year-old acting student named Julie Rubio stumbled across the prints of an obscure artist named Tamara de Lempicka at an art exbibit inside a Miami hotel. Rubio, who would go on to study at the Lee Strasberg Theatre & Film Institute in London and New York City, had never heard of this artist, but that hardly mattered. She was immediately captivated by the bold colors and evocative images of the nude female portraits and over the next few months, she went down a rabbit hole obsessively researching every element of this woman’s life. Little did she know it was a quest that would consume the next three decades of her life.

Rubio, who’s now an independent filmmaker living in the Bay Area, will be in Los Angeles later this week for the premiere of her film The True Story of Tamara de Lempicka & The Art of Survival,...

Exclusive: Feel-good dramedy stars Diana Elizabeth Torres as a chef who dreams of working in a sushi bar.

Myriad Pictures is in Cannes with worldwide rights excluding Latin America, South Korea and airlines for the feel-good foodie dramedy East Side Sushi.

Anthony Lucero wrote and directed the film that stars Diana Elizabeth Torres as a Mexican-American chef who dreams of working behind the male-dominated sushi bar at a Japanese restaurant. Julie Rubio and Lucero produced.

Myriad brokered the deal with Samuel Goldwyn Films, who released the film theatrically in September last year.

“We are very pleased to be selling this delightful comedy that pokes at race and gender stereotypes,” said Myriad president Kirk D’Amico. “I wanted to call it Juana’s Dreams Of Sushi but we will stick with the current title.”...
