Biography

    • The Yacht Club Boys were a popular cabaret, radio and recording group named after the popular New York City nightclub where they first performed in the mid-1920s. The members were James V. Kern, Charles Adler, George Kelly and Billy Mann. In 1939, in the August issue of "Dime Detective Magazine" in a Raymond Chandler fictional story entitled "Trouble Is My Business", they were mentioned by the first-person narrator:

" I need a man good-looking enough to pick up a dame who has a sense of class, but he's got to be tough enough to swap punches with a power shover. I need a guy who can act like a bar lizard and backchat like Fred Allen, only better, and get hit on the head with a beer truck and think some cutie in the leg-line tapped him with a breadstick.

It's a cinch, I said, you need the New York Yankees, Robert Donat, and the The Yacht Club Boys."
