In HitFix's new feature "Waxing Episodic," we reflect on an episode of television we'll never forget. I don't know a single person who believes "Project Runway" is at its best now, but the decade-old reality competition is still chugging along, and that's a remarkable feat for a show that peaked in terms of sheer entertainment value at the end of its first season.  Yes, season one.  Say what you will about the subsequent cycles, which have included some of the most hilarious contestants (Santino Rice, Laura Bennett, the loopy, lovable puppetrix Elisa Jimenez) and undeniable talents (Christian Siriano, Mondo Guerra, Leanne Marshall) in reality history, but "Project Runway" has almost always required trumped-up workroom drama to keep us coming back. Season three succeeded with the Jeffrey Sebelia cheating allegations and season eight offered up an irritating, intriguing teacher's pet in the form of winner Gretchen Jones, but the duller seasons...

This is the last time I apologize for a boring episode of Big Brother, I swear. Because it sure was boring. And it didn’t have to be, since Aaryn won Hoh (and America’s collective fright), earning herself the power to nominate any of a number of tolerable houseguests for eviction. Except here’s the dumb thing: She simply caved to another player’s wishes, nominated Howard and Spencer as part of her prearranged deal with Helen, and now we realize that Aaryn’s become worse than an offensive player; she’s an inoffensive player. She’s simply a quieted-down bigot who’s surviving on desperate deals and jerry-built alliances, even though she’s the Hoh this week. She could’ve leveraged this advantage much more. Poor her. I’m kidding.

Now, since nothing happened besides Aaryn’s nominations (and a dull-as-doornailz Have/Have-Not competition featuring an awkward-ass Poppy Montgomery...

To quote the ravishing gay redhead Andy, who didn’t say much else during Tuesday’s episode of Big Brother: “Congratulations, David. You’re an idiot.”

And congrats to us at home for the same reason. The BB15 house is full of racists, homophobes, misogynists, idiots, creeps, freaks, and crybabies (not to mention a perfect aforementioned redhead), and you know what that means: This is a really, really watchable season. I’m not proud of it, but who’s ever been proud of lapping up Big Brother? This show is basically a Sims expansion pack called “Community College Dropouts Edition.” It is the same old brain dead animal carcass it’s always been, except this time it’s a freshly terrible carcass — with a little extra spice in the form of hottie Nick. Nom nom nom, carcass flavors, nom nom.

Remember when we lined up Big Brother‘s new cast and tried to like them? That was dumb of us. We should’ve waited an extra 13 seconds for half of them to burst with homophobic, racist, and misogynist epithets, then called off our noble welcome wagon and cried by ourselves. Silly us!

Indeed, Big Brother 15 is turning out to be one of the most casually offensive casts we’ve seen in a long time. We didn’t witness much of their uncouth ways on Sunday’s episode (though we did see everyone finally figure out that Elissa is Rachel Reilly’s sister, a case that surely would’ve stumped Hercule Poirot), but thanks to the power of the internet’s studious Big Brother transcribers, we have a comprehensive record of everything horrible uttered on the show’s live feeds. What does a lesbian look like? Obviously there's no one way to answer this question. There isn't one way to look gay (thank god!) but there is still a certain aesthetic that is queer style. We can read the September issue like any straight woman can, but sometimes there's just something missing; someone talking to us about the specific kinds of way we like to wear our clothes. Lesbians and our other kinds of Sapphically-inclined sisters are more likely to blend the men's and women's sections, to not be satisfied with a "boyfriend" fit; to want something not necessarily feminine but that's still on trend and also looks like it was made for them. You can't always find someone to help you with this in your nearby Macy's, and if you can, you might not be comfortable doing so.

The same goes for hairstyles.

The Bold and the Beautiful producer Brad Bell says we'll definitely see more of Karen and Dani, it just depends on Joanna Johnson's schedule over at Emily Owens. M.D.. He told TVGuide:

Joanna will definitely be back, if only for a day or two here and there. And once her schedule backs off a bit I want her back for something meaty. We may not see Karen for the time being but we'll play her as if she's still around and that she and Dani are still a happy couple. [Laughs] I'm not going to have Dani go off and seduce one of our guys.

But when I caught up with them at the CBS/Showtime party at TCA this week, I asked them for some intel on Season 3 of The Real L Word and the first season of their latest hit, Fashion Star.

TheInsider.com caught up with Project Runway All-Stars' color-blocking pro Mila Hermanovski after untimely departure from Lifetime's hit show. In the interview, Mila reveals what she thinks of all the big egos, who went home too early and whom she wants to win it all!

The Insider: How did it feel to be on the show again?

Mila: It was exciting and terrifying at the same time. It was one of those, ‘oh, why did I come here again?’ moments. It’s definitely a rollercoaster.

“Project Runway All Stars” is upping the ante with Broadway and the United Nations. Last week, the designers had to design a costume for a “rich character” for the Broadway show “Godspell.” The winner will have their design in the show and a credit in the written program. The big catch with the costume, however, was that it had to look like several different pieces put together from the thrift store or from someone’s closet. Mondo was the winner, creating a fantastic, cohesive, but “old-looking” costume that effectively showed the richness of the character. It was a pretty uneventful episode of Project Runway All Stars last night. The challenge was to design a dress inspired by the culture and flags of Jamaica, Greece, India, The Seychelles, Chile or Papua New Guinea. Thankfully guest judge Catherine Malandrino was on hand to add some more insightful critique to the judge’s panel.

The designers met at the United Nations to chose their inspirational flags. Mondo won last week’s challenge so he chose first. The pairings were as follows:

Mondo – Jamaica Michael – Greece Jerell – India Austin – Seychelles Kenley – Chile Mila – Papa New Guinea

Everyone got right to work but Austin struggled the most with his bright color choices. It looked like he just grabbed the colors from the flag without a clear idea of what he wanted to do. He hoped the fabric would speak o him but he ended up with nothing. Maybe Kara was...

The stress got to the designers on this weeks episode of Project Runway All Stars. Drama was in the air and not just in the workroom. This weeks challenge was inspired by the Broadway play “Godspell”. Stephen Schwartz, the legendary Broadway composer, was on hand to explain the challenge. The designers had to make a costume for one of the characters in “Godspell”. The look was supposed to represent a character who is rich, bitchy and doesn’t mind stealing from the poor. The winning design will be featured in “Godspell” with a bio of the designer in the playbill.

The designers got right to work designing looks as rich as possible. After a few hours of work the competition started to get to Kara. She was an emotional roller coaster. When Joanna came in to critique her she lost it. Kara ended up crying and questioning her place in the competition,...

After last week's debacle, things are back to normal, and the right person went home.

On this week's All Stars, the designers must create a look of separates for a rich character in the Broadway show Godspell.

If they were going to do a Broadway show, I wish they would have chosen something like Spider-Man, if only to see Kenley's polka-dot Spidey costume, or Sister Act. Can you imagine what Mondo would do with a nun's habit?

But this if for Godspell, and after meeting iconic composer Stephen Schwartz (which even I found a thrill), they get to work on designing for actress Uzo Aduba , with Tony-winner Sutton Foster as guest judge.

My favorite moment was when Issac Mizrahi called Austin ... Austin Starlett, and Austin put him in his place.

See the headline above? That was the question Joanna seemed to be asking as she made her rounds of the work room this week. It had become obvious that not everyone was up to the task of "Putin' On The Glitz."

Rami's ouster last week had everyone on edge. Although life as a Project Runway contestant continued with Austin doing Kenly's hair and Jerell commenting that, although he was shocked, everyone would have to go some time so that he could get his check at the end.

Rami was a talented designer who pushed the edge and yet one bad week sent him home.

Now the remaining designers had to create an outfit for a rich character from the Broadway show "Godspell." The winner's outfit would be worn on stage and the designer's bio would end up in the Playbill. With a $200 budget at Mood, they were off and running.

There are only seven designers left on "Project Runway All Stars" and the pressure is building ... or at least they keep telling us that.

This week's episode begins with Jerell's deep thoughts about Rami's elimination the week before (or for him probably the night before): "The fact that he's gone is a bit of a game changer," says Jerell, who quickly recovers. "Can't be mad at that because eventually they all have to go, so I can get my check." Always with the sass, that guy.

The designers meet their lovely host Angela Lindvall at Circle in the Square theater, which Austin describes as representing "the pulse of New York in Times Square." Sure. If you think the city's biggest tourist trap is its heart and soul then Time Square is definitely it.

The designers went head to head on last night’s episode of Project Runway All Stars. This week each designer chose an overnight bag and inside the bag was a season. With only 8 designers left that meant each season had two designers. They had to create a look based on the season that the customer could take with them on an overnight trip. The catch this week was the each pair would face off on the runway, one designer would have a high score and the other would end up in the bottom.

The pairs were as follows:

Fall: Mila vs. Rami

Summer: Mondo vs. Kenley

Spring: Austin vs. Kara

Fall: Michael vs. Jerell

I’m going to come out and say it: Project Runway (regular and All-Stars) needs to send the Fashion Faceoff to the same dumpster that’s currently housing acid-washed denim, the 8-ball jacket, and anything ever worn by Randy Jackson on American Idol.

I understand that, on paper at least, when you’re down to eight designers, it’s got to be tempting to split them into four head-to-head matchups — sending the winners to safety, putting the four losers up for elimination, and pumping up the drama. But that kind of drama always ends up feeling contrived, and what’s more,...

The Project Runway All Stars were forced into a "Fashion Face Off" this week, and the claws came out as former friends turned on one another under the pressure.

When Angela brought out those weekender bags, I thought the same thing Mondo did: That the style of the bag would be used in the challenge. But it was a Runway fake out when Angela revealed they had nothing to do with the challenge. It was the cards inside that counted.

The designers were paired off to make sportswear for a specific season and they had to do it better than their partner if they didn't want to risk being sent home.

That's when things started to get catty. Michael didn't feel as though his fuzzy wuzzy bear fabric was working so he reworked his design. Unfortunately, it started to look a lot like partner Jerell's and Jerell took notice.

Sometimes you can just feel the drama coming. You know what I mean? Like snow, you can almost smell it inching nearer. And this season of "Project Runway All Stars" has been relatively sedate, so I say: Bring. It. On.

This week's episode begins with the designers seated companionably around a table at their hotel suite: "When I first got here I thought Kenley was obnoxious and annoying," confesses Mondo. "But I love to push her buttons."

Could it be? Should it be? Dare we imagine this is ... foreshadowing?

On the runway, Angela Lindvall is holding eight "getaway" bags, one for each designer. "Quite the bag lady," quips Jerell, who is fast becoming my favorite talking head.

Michael wishes her next line was, "Pack your bags! We're going to Paris." No such luck.

Got to love it when a designer has a target directly in his or her sights. Especially when said target is a fellow designer. On tonight's episode of Project Runway All Stars, the remaining eight contestants were split into pairs and asked to go mano a mano in a battle of the four seasons: two did winter looks, two summer, etc. And would you believe, with Mondo Guerra, Austin Scarlett, Michael Costello and Rami Kashou not competing against each other... They all ended up with the lower scores! Mila Hermanovski topped Rami in fall, Jerell Scott beat Michael (they really liked his look, but still) in winter, Kara Janx fared better than Austin in spring and Kenley Collins bested Mondo in...

Anthony Williams, the most recent designer to leave "Project Runway All Stars," does not have a problem with his competitors helping each other out in the workroom. In fact, he thought it was nice that Kenley decided to help Kara out with a little sewing during the latest challenge. 

"I think it's a sad day when reality television has convinced the world that the only way to be competitive is to be conniving and create these alliances against other people. I don't think there's anything wrong with people helping each other," Williams says on a call with reporters the morning after his elimination. "The reality is, no matter wins that show, whatever it is you think you want to do after winning that prize package, you're going to need a team of individuals to help you."

Project Runway: All Stars' fifth episode opens with a rather tricky challenge - the designers will have to find a muse on the busy streets of New York and convince said muse to give them the clothes off their back. The designers only have a limited budget and have to ensure whatever clothes they manage to sweet-talk themselves into will make up at least 50% of their final design. It's a difficult ask for all the designers but in the end they all head to Mood with various pieces of public clothing in their grasp. Anthony even gets one guy to strip to his briefs in the middle of the park! Austin helpfully steps in to cover the man's modesty with his hat - and tells us he even managed to get his phone number! As Tim Gunn might say, I’m feeling vexed and a little bit dubious about the conundrum that was this week’s Project Runway All-Stars. On one hand, the designer responsible for the season’s most atrocious outfit didn’t even land in the Bottom 2, and yet I can’t honestly argue with the judges’ choice for elimination. Alas, though, the latter contestant also happened to be the season’s go-to source for zippy quips.

This week's "Project Runway All Stars" opens with one of my favorite reality show conceits: The host pretends that she planned the challenge!

"Welcome to Central Park," says Angela Lindvall. "I thought it would be nice for you to get out of the house, get some fresh air and sunshine." And by that she means, "The producers made us come out to this stupid, hot park in the middle of summer. Is anyone else sweating profusely?"

The designers must each approach total strangers, isolate a muse and also, (in what they keep calling an "'All Stars' Twist!") collect clothing off the backs of anyone who will give it up. They have a $150 budget, which they can use to buy said clothing and/or fabric at Mood, but -- either way --...

The Project Runway All Stars had to convince total strangers in Central Park to give them their outfits this week.

I can only imagine all of the editing that went into this episode. I'm sure many New Yorkers aren't very friendly with their refusals when some stranger asks for the "Clothes Off Your Back"

Anthony thinks he's got the edge because you need a personality to get someone to disrobe for you. To prove it, he gets some guy to take his shorts off, which leaves him hanging out in his underwear in the middle of the park. No dressing room necessary.

Of course, Austin's the one who runs over and gets his phone number. It's all about multi-tasking and no one says you can't pick up a date while you're searching for your muse.

Faced with a "wagon wheel coffee table" in "When Harry Met Sally," Carrie Fisher's character Marie famously quips, "Everybody thinks they have good taste and a sense of humor, but they couldn't possibly all have good taste."

Truer words were never spoken, at least when it comes to this week's episode of "Project Runway All Stars." The challenge is supposedly "all about taste" on many levels, but everyone seem most concerned with the pun.

Angela Lindvall announces that the designers are to "create a tasteful outfit inspired by the colors and flavors of a seriously tasty dessert: gelato!" Really? It seems to me that there are more inspiring sweets, but what the heck?

On the runway, they feature a cart bearing the brand "L'Arte del Gelato" and ask the designers to pick flavors.

On this week's All Stars, the designers have only six hours to design a look around a flavor of gelato.

The most entertaining part of this episode was watching Michael's face run the gamut of shocked, from "I Need a Moment" shocked, to "Taylor-Swift" shocked. It was actually quite endearing.

Because the designers only had six hours from start to runway (the shortest challenge in the show's history), the tension was kicked up a notch. The fact that Diane Von Furstenburg was a judge added to the sense of urgency. And because of the time constraints, I'm going to grudgingly overlook such horrific moments as "Where's my glue gun?" and "I'm going to have to sew the model in to the design." *shudder*

Unfortunately, mentor Joanna Coles just isn't working for me, and frankly, I don't think she's necessary. She was ridiculous this episode, as she scolded the designers with...

On this week's All Stars, the designers are given 24 hrs. to create a ball gown for a night at the opera.

I've noticed a couple of things on this special edition of Project Runway. The shaving of the extra 30 minutes from the regular series makes it much more exciting and fast-paced, and the sense of urgency is back.

Also, I'm a bit disturbed that we haven't seen any real bitch-fests yet. There have been the usual "what is he/she/ thinking with that design?" whispering behind backs, but I want to see a Kenley freak-out or Gordana start channeling Latka from Taxi.

I still haven't warmed to the Bizarro World host and judges, but they're actually used sparingly, so they're now just a dull throb in my head when they're on screen.

So how did the designers do? Below and on the following pages you can see the final designs and how they fared.

I know, I know. I should have started my "Project Runway All Stars" recaps last week when it first premiered, but I was too busy huddled in a corner, recovering from the trauma of Tim Gunn's absence, wondering how they will "make it work."

Let's get one thing clear from the start: This is not "Project Runway," no matter what the name implies. There's no Tim Gunn, no Heidi Klum, no Michael Kors and no Nina Garcia. The accessory wall is Neiman Marcus, not Bluefly. They're not at Parsons. Prizes include a year-long guest editorship at Marie Claire and a specialty boutique inside Neiman's. There's not even immunity for challenge winners. So, if you're expecting the usual situation, well ... please don't. This is a new-fangled version.

Now this is going to be fun. The last few seasons of Lifetime's Project Runway have been hit or miss, thanks to flavorless designers, stultifying challenges, and inexplicable judging decisions.

But All Stars brings together some of the more ... colorful ... personalities in the history of the show, and gives them another chance to get their moment in the winner's circle.

Some of the familiar faces include Season One designer Austin Scarlett (still a cross between Hedwig and Frances Farmer), Season Five's crazy cat hurler Kenley Collins, Season Seven's eternally jubilant Anthony Williams, Season Four's sensitive hunk-a-dunk Rami Kashou, and island-unto-himself Mondo.

Designer Kara Janx is recapping the show each week, giving us a behind-the-scenes look at what it was really like competing in front of the cameras the second time around! Okay, so here is the scoop: while I fretted and waited, and fretted and waited some more, Project Runway All-Stars finally started, Amen! I can say with complete certainty that what once started out as a little fashion competition in the infancy of reality television has grown into a national obsession and has forever changed my life, swearing off the very idea that I would never Ever put myself though Project Runway again, (or boot camp, bikini camp, Hell, whatever form of torture you can conjure up)! Well.... The show gets going when we all arrive in NYC without the vaguest idea of who is going to be on the show, and believe you me this psyched us all out.

Some of the most memorable contestants will be given a second chance, starting tonight -- and season 2 contestant Kara Janx will be recapping all the drama for us each week! While so many talented designers are tapped for Project Runway, there can only be one winner each season -- until now! Project Runway All-Stars, which premieres tonight on Lifetime, is bringing back 12 of our favorite, most talented contestants and giving them a second chance at the big win. With a new judging panel and a whole new set of challenges, we can't wait to see what unfolds -- and we'll be experiencing it all through the eyes of Kara Janx! Not only is the season 2 contestant trying her luck for the second time around, but she'll also be recapping the show each week for us right here! Much as I forswore never again to take on the thankless task of recapping a Project Runway season from beginning to end like I did last year (unless, ahem, you wanna throw some major cashish my way) we have to, just simply have to, watch the PR All Stars premiere Thursday January 5 at 9/8 central on Lifetime. I mean, how can we not? So let's take a look at the contestants and try to figure out why they're putting themselves through this hell again.

First of all you need to be aware that there will be nary a leggy German supermodel with a proclivity towards short hems in sight, nor a dashing and debonair silver-haired bespectacled and impeccably dressed mentor who's been known to give out hugs on occasion, nor a famed designer who can cut one dead with merely a sentence tossed their way. Yep. No Klum, No Kors, No Gunn.

Lifetime is bringing back some of the most memorable "Project Runway" contestants of all time for "Project Runway All Stars," which premieres Thursday, Jan. 5 on the network. Of course, it's also bringing back a few of the less-memorable as well, but the mix of contestants for the new series is quite interesting.

A couple of familiar faces you won't be seeing are host Heidi Klum, mentor Tim Gunn or judges Nina Garcia and Michael Kors. Instead, they'll be replaced by an interim "All Star" cast comprised of host Angela Lindvall (supermodel), mentor Joanna Coles (Marie Claire editor-in-chief), and fashion designer judges Isaac Mizrahi and Georgina Chapman.

The main attractions are "Project Runway" favorites like Austin Scarlett (Season 1, 4th place), Kara Janx (Season 2, 4th place), Rami Kashou (Season 4, runner-up) and Mondo Guerra (Season 8, runner-up). Project Runway All-Stars kicks off January 5. Here, we refresh our memories about the designers who've set their sights on another shot at fashion glory.

The creator if the famous kimono dress returns to the runway! A well seasoned veteran of Project Runway, Kara Janx has seen quite a bit of success since her time in the competition in 2005. Now that she finds herself coming back to her humble beginnings, Kara will once again have to wow the judges with her ready-to-wear designs.

Miss Piggy and Pharrell Williams are among the guest judges announced for the upcoming Project Runway: All Stars, which premieres November 3 on Lifetime. They will join previously rumoured guest judge Miranda Kerr in appearing on the new Lifetime design competition, which welcomes back 13 of the most memorable Project Runway designers for a second run. Designers Isaac Mizrahi and Georgina Chapman will judge the designs, while Marie Claire's editor-in-chef Joanna Coles will serve as mentor and model Angela Lindvall will host. "Project Runway All Stars" will bring back past contestants with new host, judges and mentor. Lifetime has revealed that model Angela Lindvall will fill Heidi Klum's shoes as the host of Lifetime's new series spin-off, with designers Isaac Mizrahi and Georgina Chapman serving as the judges.

Taking on Tim Gunn mentor role will be Marie Claire editor-in-chief Joanna Coles. She will help guide 13 contestants who have previously joined "Project Runway" in the past seasons, including Austin Scarlett (season 1), Kara Janx (season 2), Anthony Williams (season 7) and Mondo Guerra (season 8).

This time, the 13 designers will compete for an exclusive designer's boutique in Neiman Marcus stores, $100,000 in technology and office space, and $100,000 in cash. They will also vie for a feature spread and a one-year assignment as guest editor for Marie Claire, as well as a sewing and embroidery studio provided by Brother International.

"Project Runway" fans, do you miss some of your favorites from seasons past? Well with the new "Project Runway All Stars" you'll get a chance to enjoy their fashion antics once again.

The official cast was announced on Monday (Aug. 8) and includes many fan favorites and controversial contestants from the previous eight seasons.

Returning are:

Austin Scarlett (Season 1). Austin brought the glamour and hilarious facial expressions to Season 1. He also recently teamed up with Season 2 designer, Santino Rice, for "On the Road with Austin and Santino."

Kara Janx (Season 2). Kara made it all the way to the top 4 before being eliminated. Since then she has gone on to appear on Sundance Channel's "All On the Line."

It looks like ‘Project Runway’ has taken a cue from ‘Top Chef’ and created it’s own spin-off that is no longer about finding new talent, but recycling the old. Oh and there’s no Heidi Klum!

Well I never quite got the appeal of watching contestants that were already deemed not good enough competing once again for the top spot, but I guess whether I like it or not Project Runway All Stars is coming at us full throttle.
