Rose Glass
Love Lies Bleeding Review: An Intoxicatingly Propulsive, If Formulaic, Queer Neo-Noir
Rose Glass
Maximalist horror-comedy has become such a mainstay of 21st-century indie cinema that a late-’80s-set lesbian romance that uses schlocky gore tinged with meta humor to figuratively explore the tumult of new love is hardly as outré as it would have seemed a decade ago. This hyper-stylization, accompanied by a steady score of growling synths, packs some punches, but that isn’t to say that we can’t see a fair portion of them coming.

The small but tough Lou (Kristen Stewart) appears to be one of only two workers at a grimy gym, Crater’s, in middle-of-nowhere America. We meet her as she’s digging through vomit that’s clogged the gym’s toilet, a seemingly common occurrence at this sweaty den of muscled men, which...

Solomon Kane 'Hell to Pay' Poster
James Purefoy in Solomon Kane (2009)
Solomon Kane is one of those mythical movies that has been kicking around for a long time. We first covered it as far back as Comic-Con 2008, and possibly even before that. It's finally coming out in theaters this fall. We have a new one-sheet that proves that fact to be true. Check it out, it might turn out to be pretty cool despite the long wait time (or it might turn to dust as soon as it hits the screen).

Solomon Kane comes to theaters September 28th, 2012 and stars James Purefoy, James Babson, Laura Baranik, Geoff Bell, Matthew Blood-Smyth, Brian Caspe, John Comer, Mackenzie Crook. The film is directed by Michael J. Bassett.

Comic-con 2012: Second Solomon Kane Trailer
James Purefoy in Solomon Kane (2009)
Every year, Comic-Con unleashes its fair share of surprises, with numerous stars popping in who weren't on the official schedule. One of the biggest surprises this year may very well be the release of this new trailer and poster for Solomon Kane, which will be released on VOD formats August 24 before its stateside theatrical debut September 28. James Purefoy stars as the title character, a 16th Century soldier who vows to live a life of peace after his soul was taken by the devil. His peaceful ways don't last for long, though, as he vows to free a Puritan's daughter from slavery. Check out the latest footage from director Michael J. Bassett's period action-adventure, along with the new 1-sheet.

Premiering at the Toronto International "Midnight Madness" portion of the film festival is Mchael J. Bassett's Solomon Kane, which stars James Babson, Laura Baranik, Geoff Bell, Matthew Blood-Smyth, Brian Caspe, John Comer, Mackenzie Crook. This morning we got our hands on the official poster and first hi-res still from the film that is described by Wikipedia as a somber looking man who wanders the world with no apparent goal other than to vanquish evil in all its forms.." The character of Solomon Kane was originated by pulp-era writer Robert E. Howard, the legendary creator of Conan and Red Sonja. The film adaptation tells the heroic story of a savage warrior in 16th Century England who seeks redemption for a lifetime of sins by renouncing violence to live a life of purity, only to find himself compelled to pick up his sword once again to vanquish a growing evil.
