Vice TV Sets Next ‘Vice Versa’ Doc: ‘Fear of a Black Quarterback’ (Exclusive)
Donovan McNabb at an event for ESPY Awards (2005)
Vice TV is following up tonight’s “Vice Versa: Chyna” documentary with next week’s installment, “Vice Versa: Fear of a Black Quarterback,” TheWrap has learned. We can also exclusively debut the trailer for the June 24 premiere.

“Fear of a Black Quarterback” features former NFL QBs Donovan McNabb, Warren Moon, Akili Smith, Vince Young, Shaun King, Quincy Carter and Marlin Briscoe, as well as ex-ESPN personality Jemele Hill and super agent Leigh Steinberg. The film “provides an inside look into McNabb’s NFL experiences and the hardships and discrimination Black players in this position have faced,” in Vice TV’s own words.

McNabb was one of three Black quarterbacks selected in the first round of the 1999 NFL Draft in what seemed like a turning point for a league where white players predominantly held the quarterback position. Unfortunately, the path to equity has been arduous, the logline continues, requiring McNabb...

Madden Curse Strikes Again, Polamalu To Miss 3 To 6 Weeks
Espn is reporting that Troy Polamalu of the Pittsburgh Steelers, one of the two cover athletes on "Madden NFL 10," injured a ligament in his left knee during yesterday's game and will be out for 3 to 6 weeks.

And, as with most years, talk of the Madden Curse is stirring up once again. While Brett Farve's contract shenanigans might count as curse-worthy (especially since he was "retired" when 09's box art was revealed), a better example would be in 2008, when cover athlete Vince Young injured himself in the first game and ended up being replaced as the starting Qb for the Titans.

But, of course, the years have seen far more examples of cover athletes getting injured. While many point to the Madden Curse, it's more an NFL Curse, as football players are very prone to injury. After all, it's a full-contact sport where the goal is to bring someone to the ground by any means necessarily.
