For concertgoers at the Nova Music Festival in Israel, the morning of Oct. 7 began with a beautiful sunrise, as DJs performed their propulsive rave tracks. But what was supposed to be a joyful, peaceful celebration of music and dance quickly turned into tragedy and horror, as Hamas initiated a terrorist attack against Israel — ultimately claiming the lives of hundreds of festivalgoers.
The events of the day are chronicled in the chilling documentary “We Will Dance Again,” which was nominated by the Producers Guild. Filmmaker Yariv Mozer uses cell-phone videos, social media posts, interviews with survivors, and Hamas footage to recreate a painstaking, minute-by-minute account of the day’s events.

The Producers Guild has announced the nominees for its annual documentary award, throwing another curveball into an already unexpected race. None of the PGA’s nominees are in the top ten of expected Oscar doc nominees according to the latest Feinberg Forecast.
The PGA’s six nominees for outstanding producer of documentary motion pictures are:
Gaucho Gaucho
Mediha
Mountain Queen: The Summits of Lhakpa Sherpa
Porcelain War
Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story
We Will Dance Again
The PGA does have a history of deviating from the Oscars; last year only one of its nominees, 20 Days in Mariupol, also made the Academy grouping. Still, the highest-ranked of the PGA docs on the projected Oscar list are Ukrainian-artist film Porcelain War at No. 11 and Super/Man at No. 12.
Notably the No. 2 movie on the Forecast, the left-minded Occupied Territories documentary No Other Land, did not make the PGA cut while We Will Dance Again,...

The producers of a documentary about the victims of the Oct. 7 attacks by Hamas at the Nova Music Festival are accusing the International Documentary Association of anti-Israel bias after they pulled paid awards season ads ahead of voting for the Oscars’ Best Documentary shortlist.
The organization denied the charge on Wednesday in a letter from their lawyer sent to TheWrap, calling the accusation “fictional.”
Ads for “We Will Dance Again,” a documentary streaming on Paramount+ from director Yariv Mozer, began to run Nov. 18 and were suddenly pulled ahead of the first round of Academy Award voting to determine the shortlist for the Best Documentary Feature category.

Gathering with friends to enjoy live music, the last thing on anyone’s mind was danger. Yet in an instant, terror struck the Nova Festival and shattered lives. We Will Dance Again honors those impacted with care, courage, and compassion. Through harrowing yet intimate tales of resilience, it ensures the victims are never forgotten.
Directed by Yariv Mozer, the film collects phone videos and interviews with survivors of the deadly October 2023 attack. Over three thousand people celebrated at the Nova/Universo Parelello festival near Israel’s Gaza border. But at dawn, Hamas militants breached the fence and hurled the camp into chaos. While most initially mistook rockets for fireworks, panic soon set in with the music’s halt and shouts of “code red.”
Attendants found themselves rushing aimlessly against traffic and confusion. Makeshift shelters like portable refrigerators and dumpsters briefly offered cover from grenades. But with Israeli forces delayed over six hours,...

We Will Dance Again, a 90-minute documentary about the victims and survivors of the massacre at the Nova Music Festival, one of the sites in Israel that was attacked by Hamas a year ago, got a special preview screening in London on Tuesday evening courtesy of the BBC, whose Storyville doc strand is debuting the program in the U.K. on Wednesday night.
Using the testimony of survivors, CCTV and mobile phone footage, the film tells the personal stories of some of the people who lived and many who died. It shows partygoers hiding under the stage, in a fridge, toilets and trash containers and plays recordings of some of the emergency calls made to the Israeli army, police and ambulance service. The party, which began as a celebration for around 3,500 Israelis and other nationals, ended with 364 people being killed and 44 being taken hostage.

Susan Zirinsky, the former president of CBS News and longtime executive producer of its news magazine 48 Hours, is behind Paramount+’s We Will Dance Again. The documentary, which streamed on Tuesday, takes a minute-by-minute, you-are-there approach to Hamas militants’ murder and abduction of Nova music festival attendees in Israel on Oct. 7, 2023. The attack, part of a wider armed incursion that killed nearly 1,200 people, led to the ongoing Gaza war.
Director Yariv Mozer explained to The Hollywood Reporter that the film’s narrative, told through interviews with surviving festivalgoers, relies on extensive use of graphically violent video material taken in real time — including footage retrieved from the assailants — “to be able to show how enormous the scale of this attack was and the brutality of these atrocities against people who couldn’t defend themselves.”
Zirinsky, who has also produced documentaries about 9/11 and the 2017 mass shooting in Las Vegas, agreed with Mozer’s rationale.

The Paramount+ documentary “We Will Dance Again” provides viewers with an uncensored, 360-view of Hamas’ Oct. 7 terrorist attacks in Israel that left 405 dead, 45 taken hostage and many more injured. The graphic depiction of the day gives a full glimpse into the terror inflicted on innocent Israeli civilians, international visitors (including several Americans), Nova Music Festival-goers and more.
Produced by See It Now Studios, the film debuted on the streamer Tuesday, almost a year after the atrocities that sparked the ongoing war between Israel and Hamas in Gaza. Using Hamas’ GoPro film recordings, social media videos and victims’ recovered cell phone footage, the documentarian team behind “We Will Dance Again” attempted to give a total picture of what really happened.
Speaking at a Los Angeles screening at the Sherry Lansing Theatre on Thursday, the film’s director Yariv Mozer (“Golda’s War Diaries”) defended the graphic nature of the documentary as being necessary and impactful.

We Will Dance Again, a Paramount+ documentary about the Hamas militants’ mass killing and hostage-taking of music festival attendees in southern Israel — part of a larger attack that triggered the ongoing Gaza war — debuted Tuesday, just ahead of the first anniversary of the Oct. 7 massacre. Director Yariv Mozer’s immersive approach elides commentary. Instead, he sticks to harrowing testimony from survivors, buttressed by graphically violent video taken in real time, including footage retrieved from the assailants. “It’s events happening in front of your eyes,” explains the film’s producer Susan Zirinsky, who’s the former head of CBS News. “There is no exaggeration, no embellishment.”
Mozer spoke to The Hollywood Reporter about why he doesn’t see the project as political, when real violence is too much for viewers, and how international buyers are taking different approaches to the film.

For many people, the horrors of the Oct. 7 attacks in Israel reside in the imagination. Some of the raw footage of the mass murder and abductions that happened that day, miles from the Gaza border after Hamas militants poured in on motorcycles and hanging from vehicles while waving Ak-47s and firing at anyone in their path, was seen in part, scattered in snatches across news reports and social media. What was shown to the public last year was brief for obvious reasons. The footage was captured via cell phones of festivalgoers of the Nova Music Festival, or through CCTV footage outside roadside fallout shelters or dashcam video before their abrupt endings, at which point over 400 music lovers were murdered or kidnapped.

Paramount+ will premiere We Will Dance Again on Sept. 24. The film documents the Hamas’ Oct. 7 terrorist attack at the Nova Music Festival last year.
The premiere date is tied near to the first anniversary of the attack that killed about 1,200 Israelis and took roughly 250 hostages. To retaliate against Hamas after the attacks, Israel launched an offensive military action in Gaza with considerable loss of life in the region.
The project from See It Now Studios features new interviews with more than a dozen survivors who were able to chronicle their harrowing experience to stay alive with exclusive cell phone footage. The doc also includes footage captured by other victims and Hamas ahead of the wider Israel-Gaza conflict.
“The human cost of the Hamas attack in Israel and the war that followed in Gaza has been catastrophic for both Israelis and Palestinians,” Susan Zirinsky, president of See It Now Studios, said in a statement.

UK’s Odeon Cinemas Expands Family Offer

Exclusive: MGM and Israeli production company Tadmor Entertainment are behind making a documentary series about Adolf Eichmann, one of the architects of the Holocaust.
The two companies are producing Eichmann – The Devil Speaks for Israeli public broadcaster Kan. It marks the first project to emerge from the first-look deal between MGM and Tadmor that was signed earlier this year.
As part of Hitler’s Final Solution, Eichmann was responsible for killing over six million Jews. After the war he went into hiding, but was recorded on tapes by Nazi journalist Willem Sassen, bragging about his central role in the genocide. Eichmann was eventually caught in Argentina by Israeli intelligence and put on trial in Jerusalem, but the original Sassen tapes were never recovered. One of the most important interviews ever given was never heard… until now.
The series, which is currently in production, will premiere in December 2021. It was created by director Yariv Mozer. Kobi Sitt is producing for Alice Communications, while Tadmor Entertainment’s Gideon Tadmor, Emilio Schenker and Michael Schmidt are serving as executive producers.
MGM is handing worldwide rights outside of Israel and will soon introduce the series to global buyers. The deal was negotiated by MGM’s President of Television Operations Brian Edwards and Klvb Law’s Jerry Longarzo on behalf of Tadmor Entertainment.
Yariv Mozer said, “We feel obligated to return to the legal drama that took place in 1961 and retell the story of the Holocaust to younger generations so that it will never be forgotten. Above all, it is essential to reiterate the lessons we learned from the Holocaust at a time when more and more people seem to have forgotten them.”
MGM/UA TV President Steve Stark added, “Eichmann – The Devil Speaks features never-before-seen interview footage of one of history’s most notorious war criminals and brings a new lens to the emotionally explosive trial that revealed him to the world. We are honored to kick off our creative partnership with Tadmor Entertainment on this gripping and essential documentary series.”...
