Terrifier 3 has hit several huge box office milestones at the end of its first week. The new movie, from writer-director Damien Leone, is a runaway smash featuring new slasher icon Art the Clown in another gory rampage. Art the Clown Actor Reacts to Terrifier 3 Beating Joker 2 at the Box Office
Image
As it turns out, Art the Clown has more clout at the box office than the Clown Prince of Crime. The man who portrays Art in the acclaimed holiday horror film, Terrifier 3, reveals his shock that the threequel outperformed Joker: Folie Deux during its opening weekend.

Speaking with TMZ, Terrifier 3 star David Howard Thornton claimed he's "stunned" the movie outperformed the Joker sequel given the hype surrounding Folie Deux. Thornton equated the box-office upset to a David vs. Goliath story, considering Terrifier 3's independent status against Warner Bros.' latest major title. "I'm stunned. This is not something you hear about every single day," he said. "This is a David vs. Goliath type of story because Terrifier 3 was a low-budget independent film, and we were going up against a 200-something million dollar comic book juggernaut. That's a feat I never expected to see in my life.

'I Know How It Ends': Terrifier 3 Director Shares How Many More Sequels Could Be Made

This article contains Major Spoilers for Terrifier 3.

Terrifier's cult fan base will be pleased to know that the saga doesn't end in Terrifier 3. Director Damien Leone delivers on his promise of another sequel, and he's keeping the door open for more installments to the franchise.

Director Damien Leone said his long-term vision for Terrifier doesn't go beyond Terrifier 5, but he's holding out hope for many more sequels. "There is no definitive answer at this time regarding how many more films I will make before concluding the Terrifier saga," he told Variety. "Personally, I can't see it going further than one or two more films, but only time will tell." Art the Clown's rampage could go on indefinitely as proven by his repeated rebirths and resurrections, and it's easy to imagine the Terrifier series spawning a franchise of spinoff films, or even a TV series. Currently unsure if Terrifier 4 is the final installment,...

Terrifier 3 Star Reveals Surprising Connection Between Art the Clown and The Joker
Image
Actor David Howard Thornton is making his mark on the horror genre with his continued portrayal of Art the Clown. Terrifier 3 is currently the king of the box office, even knocking the Joker sequel down into the No. 2 spot, but that's not the only connection between Art the Clown and the Clown Prince of Crime.

On the social media platform Threads, the Art actor shared a meme acknowledging how "inspiring" it is that he is starring in a film that took the box office crown from Joker: Folie Deux, as this comes years after Thornton actually played the Joker in online fan films. Coincidentally, Thornton also happened to be cast as Art the Clown and the Joker in the very same week, nearly a decade before Terrifier 3 battled Joker: Folie Deux at the box office. As Thornton said, "I was actually cast as Art and Joker in the...

'Supposed to Be Way Worse': Terrifier 3's Final Kill Was More Gruesome in Original Cut
Image
This story contains Major Spoilers for Terrifier 3.

Terrifier creator and director Damien Leone confirms that the latest film's final kill sequence was originally far more brutal.

Speaking to ScreenRant, Leone opened up about how Terrifier 3's portrayal of the death of Gabbie's mother "was supposed to be way worse." As Leone explained, "I actually wound up trimming it a lot where the shots that you do see are almost subliminal and everything is so fast. But even still, it's just the idea of what's happening is so cruel and gruesome, so I'm glad that it worked."

Does Terrifier 3 Have a Post Credits Scene? The Horror Movies Ending, Explained
Image
Terrifier 3 is hands-down the goriest film in the franchise. Art the Clown (David Howard Thornton) is at his least merciful, and nobody is safe in the film, not even children. Director Damien Leone raised the bar when it comes to the bloodshed, death scenes, and overall brutality. For example, one little boy is butchered in a horrific home invasion sequence at the beginning of the film, and many joyful kids are involved in a Santa Mall explosion toward the middle of the movie. That isn't even counting the memorable bathroom scene where a character meets a grisly fate via chainsaw. Needless to say, viewers should be aware of many trigger warnings before viewing Terrifier 3 because the film is unrelenting with its blood spatter, amputations, and desecration of the holidays.

The Gnarliest Death in the Terrifier Franchise Still Has Me Nauseous
Image
Editor's note: The following contains spoilers for 'Terrifier 3'.The Terrifier franchise is notorious for its extreme, often excessively bloody kills. However, the most upsetting death doesn't even involve any sort of dismemberment. In fact, its not very visually gory at all. The death in question comes towards the end of Terrifer 3 and the torment is much more psychologically difficult to watch and causes intense emotional distress for Sienna (Lauren Lavera). Her Aunt Jessica (Margaret Anne Florence) quickly becomes a surrogate mother for her after her own mothers death, so the audience feels that deep connection. So, when Sienna is forced to watch Jessica suffocate on live rats that are forced down her throat, it easily becomes one of the most cruel fates anyone has received in the Terrifier franchise.

Image
We spoke with actor David Howard Thornton amid the release of Terrifier 3, the acclaimed new installment from director Damien Leone that features Art the Clown's goriest kills yet. In fact, Thornton who plays Art is tasked with performing a deed so horrific that even he had to admit how grossed out he was, confirming to us that this latest film in the franchise features the worst slayings by far.

"There's a notorious moment that happened near the end of the film that really grossed me out a lot, and it's one thing I just can't handle in real life either," Thornton told MovieWeb. "And Damien knew that, so I think he definitely put that in there just to really mess with me on set. And then it was just the environment I was in that just made it worse because we're in a hot, smelly house at the time,...

‘Terrifier 3’ Review: Art the Clown Is Back in the Latest and (If It’s Even Possible) Sickest Entry Yet in the Gruesomely Inventive Franchise
Image
If they gave out an Academy Award for best performance by a silent harlequin in a white clown suit who can mime a giggle fit while slicing people’s faces off (don’t try this at home — the slicing or the silent laughing), the award would be a lock for Art the Clown, the mascot of beyond-anything-you’ve-ever-seen slasher mayhem who’s the depraved killer/ringleader of “Terrifier 3.”

Art the Clown is to Freddy and Jason and Michael Myers what the Sex Pistols were to the Who and the Stones: their punk end point, their scandalous culmination. In the good old days, slasher movies were about masked hulks chopping people’s limbs off or skewering them with butcher knives. (How quaint.) “Saw” and its sequels upped the ante, with the characters subjected to intricate machine-tooled torture that involved every conceivable form of dismemberment (with the added joke of: each victim deserved it!

Terrifier 3 Review: Gruesome Franchise Entry Spends Way Too Much Time On The Wrong Character
Image
Terrifier 3, the third film in director Damien Leone's ultra-gory Terrifier trilogy, once again depicts the worst possible things that could happen to its characters and refuses to blink. Set five years after Terrifier 2's ending, then only a few days, then back to five years in a series of confusing and disjointed opening sequences, Terrifier 3 finds Sienna Shaw (Lauren Laver) being pulled out of a mental health hospital she's been in since her violent, and theoretically victorious, confrontation with Art the Clown (David Howard Thornton) in the previous film.

'My Favorite Villain of All Time': Terrifier's Art the Clown Actor Reveals Dream Dcu Role
Image
Terrifier 3 star David Howard Thornton is ready to join the DC Universe. The Art the Clown actor recently revealed which DC character he'd love to have the opportunity to play in James Gunn's forthcoming shared universe.

"The Joker is my favorite villain of all time, and that's a character I would love to play myself one day," the actor told GamesRadar+. "So hopefully someone like James Gunn gives me the opportunity to tackle that character because I would like to do a lot of fun things with him." Currently, the Clown Prince of Crime is being played on the big screen by Joaquin Phoenix (in Joker: Folie Deux) and Barry Keoghan (in Matt Reeves' The Batman Epic Crime Saga). Terrifier 3's Rotten Tomatoes Score Just Broke 11 Records
Image
Terrifier 3 has already broken a whopping 11 Rotten Tomatoes records. The film continues the story of sadistic killer Art the Clown, with a setting twist this time as Art the Clown continues his killing spree in a jolly Christmastime backdrop. It is the third feature film and fourth project within the Terrifier franchise, which began in 2011 with Damien Leones short film Terrifier. The Terrifier franchise has made a name for itself in low-budget horror by being excessively gory and gruesome.

At the time of writing, Terrifier 3 boasts an 87% on Rotten Tomatoes with 31 reviews so far. This score is subject to change, as Terrifier 3 is being released to a wider audience beginning on Friday, October 11. Still, critics are loving Terrifier 3 so far, praising its over-the-top nature and the true frights that Terrifier 3 provides. If Terrifier 3s 87% Tomatometer were not impressive enough on its own, it is even...

Terrifier 3 (2024) Review
Image
The Terrifier franchise has, over the years, solidified itself as a monument to blood-soaked spectacle – an unabashed love letter to the grimiest aspects of the slasher genre. And Terrifier 3, directed once again by Damien Leone, is certainly no exception.

With its holiday-themed twist and a budget significantly beefier than its predecessors, this latest outing manages to be both utterly outrageous and strangely impressive. It’s a festival of violence that spills over with grotesque inventiveness and a fair dollop of dark, comedic glee.

Picking up five years after the gory climax of Terrifier 2, we find Sienna Shaw (played with palpable emotional weight by Lauren Lavera) attempting to navigate the psychological aftermath of her encounter with the menacing Art the Clown (David Howard Thornton). She’s haunted, understandably, by memories of the friends she lost and the horrors she survived. Sienna, now living with her Aunt Jessica (Margaret Anne Florence...

'It's a Risky Move': Terrifier 3 Director Explains Original Final Girl's Dark Turn
Image
Terrifier 3 sees the return of Samantha Scaffidi as Vicky Heyes, the final girl from Art the Clown's (David Howard Thornton) massacre in the original movie. This time, however, she's assisting Art with his killings, now serving as one of the villains.

Vicky's return as a more evil verison of herself was previously revealed in the post-credits scene for Terrifier 2. In a new interview with Screen Rant, director Damien Leone confirmed that Vicky is on Art's side in Terrifier 3, though he clarified that she's not in her right mind. The filmmaker shared how Vicky is possessed by The Little Pale Girl (Amelie McLain), suggesting she may not be in control of her own body. Leone also commented on how this allowed for Scaffidi to do something she's never done before, now the polar opposite of the would-be victim she was in the original Terrifier.

France’s film classification committee has slapped slasher film Terrifier 3 with an under-18s ban – the first ruling of its kind in nearly 20 years.

Speaking with Screen Rant, Thornton confirmed that Terrifier 4 was happening, although he stressed that the movie was still in very early development. "Oh, I know he hasn't actually started writing the script, per se, but he has definitely written down ideas. He definitely has a lot of ideas, and I know this whole entire time, even before he wrote part 2, we had come up together with where we want to take it for a good ending, we think, for this character," the actor revealed.

‘Terrifier 3’ Review: Art the Clown Gets Naughty in Christmas Massacre for the Gory Faithful
Image
Packing all the seasonal joy of a stocking stuffed with offal or a wreath made of human tongues, writer-director Damien Leone’s Terrifier 3 turns the most wonderful time of the year into a gut-churning festival of carnage. Leveling up from the viral hit that was Terrifier 2 with a bigger budget, stronger performances, and a more well-modulated tone, the film is chockablock with enough nasty delights and surprising amounts of heart to lift the series from its origins as a glorified effects reel into something near splat cinema art.

Picking up five years after the Wtf conclusion of Terrifier 2, Sienna Shaw (Lauren Lavera) is attempting to heal both mentally and physically—having barely survived her supernatural showdown with Miles County’s resident boogeyman, Art the Clown (David Howard Thornton). Though staying with her Aunt Jessica (Margaret Anne Florence), Uncle Greg (Bryce Johnson), and little cousin Gabbie (Antonella Rose) for Christmas,...

Film News Roundup: Weekend Box Office Reporting Suspended Due to Coronavirus
In today’s film news roundup, box office reporting is going away temporarily, Hollywood Teamsters have job opportunities, comedy “The Incoherents” finds a home and Fathom Events postpones more than a dozen releases.

Box Office Reporting

The coronavirus pandemic and the closure of most movie theaters has led to a temporary suspension of North American box office reporting by Comscore, the industry’s box office tracker.

The decision came after Disney announced it would stop global box office reporting, given the current large number of theater shutdowns around the globe.

“Due to this unprecedented situation, Comscore will be temporarily suspending our usual Sunday North American Top 10 Estimates, Global chart and commentary,” Comscore said in a statement. “We will update the status of studio reporting on Monday.”

Paul Dergarabedian, senior media analyst at Comscore, told Variety that there will be some revenues this weekend, thanks partly to drive-in movie theaters that have remained open.
