The Beast's human form is reimagined in a new piece ofBeauty and the Beast art. The influential 1991 Disney animated feature followed a young woman named Belle who is held by a terrifying beast in his castle, only to uncover his true self as she spends time with him. In Beauty and the Beast, the titular monster voiced by Robby Benson was a vain, self-centered prince who was cursed alongside his loyal staff by a sorceress for his unkindness, and only true love could break the spell.
Artist @BleydhDu on X/Twitter recently shared their own reimagining of Disney's Beauty and the Beast, envisioning how they feel the Beast should truly look when restored to a human. As opposed to the long-haired, cleanly shaven man who was originally designed for the movie, this version of the human Beast is built closer to his monstrous form, with a beard and similar facial structure.

The concept of reference points in animation is common if you're in the know, but might surprise folks who don't have much experience with or knowledge of the history of the medium. Even the greatest and most talented illustrators have to start somewhere when creating a character, and it's no different for the craftspeople working for Walt Disney Animation Studios. In the early eras of Disney animation, reference points were often live actors or animals. In the cases of "Bambi" and "Dumbo," for example, if you check out the 1941 film "The Reluctant Dragon" (a movie that was itself bizarrely censored for one particular animated detail), you can see animators literally watching how deer and elephants move so they can accurately capture those minute details in designing the titular characters.
As the world approached the 21st century, however, Disney animators started to look not just to real people, but to specifically...

One of the greatest challenges of any art form is fully conveying the internal experiences of its characters. It's even more difficult when these characters are on the spectrum of mental illness. While there are plenty of great movies that put a spotlight on mental health, how one captures the internal dialogue, the swirl of emotions, and their potential to invade every moment of life is a puzzle that few manage to capture with authenticity. Schizophrenia, in particular, is a tough one; it is a condition that is difficult to navigate without becoming exploited or villainized.
With so few films finding a means to convey schizophrenia accurately, Clean, Shaven has become championed among a faithful few because of its ability to do just that. Let's explore how the 1993 film excelled where others fell short in depicting schizophrenia, and whether Clean, Shaven is still worth watching decades after its release in the changing cultural landscape.

Mike Flanagan's new Carrie remake needs to get the casting right to compete with the classic original Stephen King film, and one of his earlier Netflix shows could hold the answer for a key role. Mike Flanagan has become the go-to name for Netflix horror, and now, Amazon Prime is hoping to get some of his magic on their platform. Amazon's streaming service has begun to work on an adaptation of Stephen King's classic novel, Carrie, with Mike Flanagan spearheading the production.
Flanagan has previously worked on several adapted stories by Stephen King, along with other original stories for both TV and film. However, Carrie is one of the most popular titles from King, and potentially the biggest adaptation that Flanagan has worked on yet, with two previous films already adapting the story. From the very start, Tolga Karaçelik’s The Shallow Tale of a Writer Who Decided to Write About a Serial Killer promises unusual relationships destined to evolve in surprising ways. We’re introduced to John Magaro as Keane, a novelist stuck in a rut both personally and professionally. His marriage to Britt Lower’s Suzie is showing major cracks, as the four years Keane’s spent failing to complete his next book have taken an understandable toll.
It’s during this low point that Steve Buscemi’s mysterious character Kollmick enters the story. Claiming to be a retired serial killer, he offers to help Keane by becoming the subject of his new book. At first only interested in furthering his writing, Keane is oblivious to Kollmick’s deeper intentions.
But things become decidedly more complicated when a drunken Keane brings Kollmick home one night, only for a misunderstanding to lead...

Britt Lower, John Magaro, and Steve Buscemi are standout performers in The Shallow Tale. Suzie, played by Britt Lower, brings the most humor and excitement to the film. The movie's focus on the crumbling marriage between Suzie and Keane overshadows Keane's writing journey.
Some may find the title of The Shallow Tale of a Writer Who Decided to Write About a Serial Killer misleading. It's not entirely inaccurate, but beneath the film's initial premise as described in the title is a different movie, one less about the process of writing and more about a marriage falling apart and how it might be saved over one out of control night.

That's what producer Don Hahn said to Film School Rejects in 2018 of Disney's 1994 animated classic "The Lion King." It's an odd thing to say, given that it went on to become one of the most successful animated movies of all time. But that's looking back at it with the benefit of hindsight. "The pitch for the story was a lion cub gets framed for murder by his uncle set to the music of Elton John. People said, 'What? Good luck with that.'" That's what producer Don Hahn said to Film School Rejects in 2018 of Disney's 1994 animated classic "The Lion King." It's an odd thing to say, given that it went on to become one of the most successful animated movies of all time. But that's looking back at it with the benefit of hindsight. At the time, it was viewed as a risk by the powers that be. It was a gamble that paid off handsomely, to put it lightly.

“Psycho Therapy: The Shallow Tale of a Writer Who Decided to Write About a Serial Killer” marks the English-language debut of Turkish director Tolga Karaçelik. Its initial premise, about an unhappily married couple, morphs and flips on its head until it transforms into something resembling the movie’s title, though it’s only about “a writer writing about a serial killer” in the most nominal sense. That one element gives way to an even more amusing conceit, involving crossed-wires and mistaken identities, but its wires continue to cross, until the movie mutates beyond recognition, refusing to stick to any one idea for longer than a couple of scenes.
John Magaro plays Keane, a meek but self-absorbed novelist who refuses to admit (or even recognize) that his marriage is on the rocks. His wife Suzie (Britt Lower) initially comes off as heartless and cold in her admonishment of him and in her demands for a divorce.

Turkish director Tolga Karaçelik, who made a splash in the U.S. with absurdist comedy “Butterflies,” is getting ready to premiere his first English-language film, “The Shallow Tale of a Writer Who Decided to Write About a Serial Killer,” in which the offbeat serial killer in question is played by Steve Buscemi.
The New York-set film, which takes Karaçelik’s comic streak in a new direction, will launch on Saturday from the Tribeca Film Festival. “The Shallow Tale” also features John Magaro (“Past Lives”) as Keane, a struggling writer who befriends the “retired” serial killer, who eventually becomes Keane’s unlikely marriage counselor as he goes through divorce proceedings with his straight-laced wife (Britt Lower), as well as the muse for his next book.

Roy Kent (Brett Goldstein) is one of the most fan-favorite characters on Ted Lasso, but would fans love his real-life counterpart, Roy Keane, equally? Yes, the AFC Richmond legend is, in fact, based on an actual footballer, as the Apple TV+ hit series is always borrowing from real life to build its own version of the footy world. Kent and Keane have a lot in common, from their harsh demeanor to their excellence on the pitch, and are both widely regarded as legends in their own right. Both of them also became coaches and TV pundits after retiring from the pitches, but the similarities go way beyond, though.

Cillian Murphy, the veteran actor known for working on projects like Peaky Blinders, Batman Begins, and, Oppenheimer, is all set for his Oscar nomination. Being an Irish actor, Murphy is extremely proud and yet, humbled, to receive a nomination for Best Actor in a Leading Role.
Talking about the subject of fame, Murphy simply accepted that even if he did win the Oscar, he still wouldn’t be more famous than Irish football coach Roy Keane! The humbling sentences reminded people of Keanu Reeves as they root for their favorite actor to win his deserving Oscar.

Two years ago, the United States Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, effectively ending the constitutional right to abortion and giving states leeway to criminalize the procedure. The harrowing moment had been years in the making. Since the landmark decision was made in 1973, anti-abortion advocates have been organizing on a local level to chip away at the protection and champion its demise.
With their documentary Preconceived, debut filmmakers Sabrine Keane and Kate Dumke offer another entry point into understanding the scale and impact of this decision. The film uncovers the mysteries and contradictions shrouding crisis pregnancy centers, offices around the United States that bill themselves as abortion clinics. In reality, these places do not offer the service (or any medical ones, really). They are, rather, a covert prevention method, strategically located and advertised to attract pregnant people looking for an abortion only to mislead them. Once patients walk through the door,...

Also unconventional, Hauser was crunching on something in his seat when they called his name and still chewing when he took the stage.

British rockers Keane have unearthed their previously unreleased song “Love Actually,” which, as the title suggests, was written for the beloved 2003 rom-com of the same name but ultimately unused by the film’s director.
In defense of Love Actually director Richard Curtis, Keane wrote the song before the then-unknown band even released their debut album, 2004’s Hopes and Fears. With Love Actually the film celebrating its 20th anniversary this year, and ahead of the 20th anniversary of Hopes and Fears, Keane dug out their “Love Actually” and recorded a proper version for the first time.

Decade-old Frozen concept art has sparked calls from Disney fans for a darker, more campy reboot.
In resurfaced images posted to X (formerly Twitter), Elsa is shown to be darker and more witch-like, drawing comparisons to Cruella from 101 Dalmatians and Yzma from The Emperor's New Groove. Dancing with snowmen of her creation at her feet, this Elsa showcases a more narcissistic side than fans have come to know, as her sister Anna looks on with slight fear. The concept art, drawn by Claire Keane for Walt Disney Animation Studios, was never used in the final version. While some of Elsa's fear factor remains, her design and implied nature have sparked calls for Disney to reboot the franchise, as well as a return to its hallmark 2D animation.

It’s 2023, and you’re watching a teen drama in all its angsty, existential, emotionally nerve-wracking glory. And if you’re a 90s kid like me, you’re missing Keane’s soft notes reconciling two lovers. There’s no dreamlike hallway being walked by a goofy misfit who will go on to do great things in life. I guess what worked for the late-90s teen dramas, and of course, I can only speak for myself and the experiences of people around me, is that the high schools and colleges shown were places where we wished to imagine ourselves. The friendships formed and the hearts broken and mended were the greener grass for us to look at longingly. We wanted a slice of the world that these wonderfully flawed kids were a part of. I don’t know about you, but I wouldn’t have wanted to go to East...

Netflix’s “Beef” follows the escalating road-rage incident between wealthy entrepreneur Amy (Ali Wong) and failing contractor Danny (Steven Yeun). As Amy and Danny relish in vengeful schemes against one another, meanwhile concealing the extent of their discontent from their friends and family, composer Bobby Krlic opted for hits from the ’90s to mark the true emotional expression the pair is craving.
“The ’90s was this golden period where people just had their hearts on their sleeves with that kind of music,” Krlic told TheWrap. “They just express things very matter of factly and in a really unique, emotional way.”
Each episode in the 10-episode series concludes with a different ’90s hit, including Incubus’ “Drive, The Offspring’s “Self Esteem,” Keane’s “Somewhere Only We Know” and Tori Amos’ “Cornflake Girl,” among others. “All the songs say something unique,” Krlic added.

Mike Flanagan reveals the crazy ideas he originally had for Midnight Mass season 2. Following on the heels of his Netflix horror shows The Haunting of Hill House and The Haunting of Bly Manor, Flanagan in 2021 unleashed arguably his greatest creation thus far, the philosophical vampire story Midnight Mass. Set on an isolated New England island, the show detailed the battle that ensued after the arrival of a mysterious priest (Hamish Linklater) and his terrifying supernatural companion.
Like Flanagan’s other Netflix shows, Midnight Mass was never intended to be an ongoing proposition, but he nevertheless did at one point have ideas for a Midnight Mass season 2. Speaking to the Script Apart podcast (via Empire), Flanagan detailed one particularly wild idea he had for a second season, which would have seen season 1 character Riley (Zach Gilford) surviving to the end, only to wind up as the villain for season 2. We love this Fritz Lang western even though it’s not particularly good; only in hindsight do we realize that the brilliant director’s intentions may have been compromised. High-key lighting does Marlene Dietrich no favors, but she scores good scenes performing with Arthur Kennedy (revenged crazed cowpoke) and Mel Ferrer (tranquilized gunslinger). Lang fans will be impressed by the gaudy, over-bright restored Technicolor, and we can always blame Howard Hughes.

The hilarious shooter High On Life is a fun-filled romp for many reasons, particularly its clever writing that's performed by a star-studded cast. Justin Roiland's latest Squanch Games project places skilled comedians and voice actors into every role, from its sentient Gatlian guns and bosses to random NPCs encountered throughout the title. With such a varied cast, it may be hard for players to pin down just where they recognize some of the game's voices from, particularly those playing the leaders of the G3 Cartel.
At the heart of High On Life's silly shooting is the invasion of Earth by the G3 Cartel, who are there to harvest humans - the latest intergalactic drug craze. Players assume the role of a bounty hunter, tracking down each of the G3's main bosses in order to save Earth from certain demise. While the actors behind the game's sentient race of guns have been detailed previously,...

The Criterion Channel’s January lineup will put some good things front and center: they’re launching a 20-film cinema verité series that highlights all major figures of the form; an eight-film Mike Leigh retrospective that focuses on his little-seen, lesser-discussed BBC features produced between 1973 and 1984; a series on Abbas Kiarostami’s studies of childhood; and because you’ve either seen Eo or have it marked to watch, Jerzy Skolimowski’s three most-acclaimed films should be of equal note.
Another 2022 favorite, Il Buco, will have its streaming premiere alongside Kamikaze Hearts, the Depardieu-led Cyrano de Bergerac, and the recent restoration of Lodge Kerrigan’s Keane. The sole Criterion Edition for this month is 3 Women, while some notable recent documentaries—The American Sector,...

The famous creator of one of the newspaper's funniest comics, The Far Side's Gary Larson, once admitted that he had a desire to "mess with" another iconic series. The Far Side is a series that needs no introduction. The one-panel comic that published between 1979 and 1995 was a huge hit with readers because of its outlandish humor. Whether it's a confusing comic focusing on Cow Tools or the infamous Midvale School for the Gifted strip, Larson's brand of humor has found its way to the funny bones of many readers. However, it's also been met with its fair share of controversy as shown when he discussed how one of his comics made him think his career was over. This is all because his brand of humor is rooted in surrealism.
What makes The Far Side different from most newspaper comics is that its surreal style of black humor allows Larson to...

It's officially the best time of year for music-lovers. Spotify has released its 2022 Wrapped experience, and audio enthusiasts are already flocking to the streaming app to find out what their most-streamed songs mean about their personalities. But it's also time to see what the most-streamed songs of the year globally say about humanity as a whole - or about Spotify's 456 million listeners across 184 countries, at least.
Along with personalized playlists for all its users, Spotify also revealed its lists of 2022's most-streamed songs, albums, and artists on Nov. 30 as part of Spotify Wrapped. While 2021 packed some surprises, like music newcomer Olivia Rodrigo snagging the most-streamed song of the year with "Drivers License," 2022's lists were a bit more predictable, with long-established top artists holding down prime spots on the top lists.
Harry Styles ruled 2022; the lead single of his album "Harry's House," "As It Was," was the year's most-streamed song globally.

Holiday season is upon us, and with that comes the arrival of Spotify Wrapped, the audio giant’s annual data bonanza that honors the most-streamed artists and packages users’ listening habits into fun graphics to laugh and cringe at.
This year’s Wrapped, which analyzed listener data between January 1 and November 26, saw the return of The Joe Rogan Experience and Alex Cooper’s Call Her Daddy — both of which are exclusively licensed to Spotify — as the first and second most popular podcasts around the world, respectively. Newcomer Emma Chamberlain, whose podcast Anything Goes will become exclusive to Spotify beginning next year, took over the No. 3 spot on the global podcast list, followed by the Spotify Original series Caso 63, which was recently adapted into English with Oscar Isaac and Julianne Moore. Rounding out the global podcast list was Ashley Flowers’ Crime Junkie, which was...

With the new World Cup promotion in FIFA 23 Ultimate Team World Cup, Heroes have arrived, including Ireland's finest striker Robbie Keane. The striker was the star of the show for his country in the 2002 World Cup helping his side to the last 16, and Keane features as one of the Heroes in FIFA 23. Hero cards are similar to Icons featuring high-rated former stars to help bolster any Ultimate Team. All the cards in the promotion had base cards introduced at the game's launch, but now an improved version of each Hero is being released to coincide with the start of the 2022 World Cup. Keane is one of these stars and is the first to become available via Squad Building Challenges (Sbc).
Squad Building Challenges allow players to trade in sets of unwanted players for new promotional cards and packs. Cards such as Heroes and Icons often have high requirements, and Keane's is no different.
