Sterlin Harjo Noir Drama Starring Ethan Hawke Gets FX Pilot Order
Image
Exclusive: FX has handed a pilot order to The Sensitive Kind, a high-profile drama project starring and executive produced by Ethan Hawke and created and executive produced by Sterlin Harjo, co-creator, executive producer and showrunner of the network’s acclaimed series Reservation Dogs.

The Sensitive Kind marks a reunion — Hawke guest starred in Reservation Dogs as Rick Miller in the series’ penultimate episode “Elora’s Dad,” playing Elora Danan’s (Devery Jacobs) father she had never met.

Created by Harjo, The Sensitive Kind is a Tulsa noir about a guy (Hawke) who knows too much.

Harjo also serves as writer and director on the pilot, which he and Hawke executive produce with Garrett Basch. The project falls under Harjo’s overall deal with FX Productions, which is the studio.

Reservation Dogs Makes the Perfect Choice to Play Elora’s Dad
Image
This article contains spoilers for Reservation Dogs season 3 episode 9.

In Reservation Dogs season 3, Elora Postoak (Devery Jacobs) receives some stunning news: she has a father.

Of course, Elora always understood she had a dad but just assumed he died like her mother did. No one disabused her of that notion until season 3 episode 1 when Teenie (Tamara Podemski) told Elora that not only is her dad alive … he’s a white guy. An episode 4 medical file confirms that his name is Rick Miller.

With this reveal, Reservation Dogs implicitly promised that Elora’s father would appear in one of the show’s six remaining episodes. And when he did turn up, he would likely be played by a familiar face. After all, the series has built up quite the fanbase among performers with comedic heavy hitters like Megan Mullally, Bill Burr, and Marc Maron popping by for guest appearances. Surely, one...

How ‘Reservation Dogs’ Landed Ethan Hawke as Elora’s Dad & More Season 3 Secrets
Image
[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for Reservation Dogs Season 3, Episode 9, “Elora’s Dad.”] Reservation Dogs has never shied away from welcoming a famous face to the show’s talented ensemble, and in the show’s penultimate episode, “Elora’s Dad,” the biggest surprise guest star yet was unveiled as Elora’s (Devery Jacobs) estranged father Rick Miller, played by Ethan Hawke. Introducing the mystery at the beginning of Season 3, Elora discovered her father was alive during a conversation with her aunt Teenie (Tamara Podemski). After believing he was dead all these years, she was presented with an opportunity to seek him out, even taking note of his name on her birth certificate, but it was her college application process that ultimately led her to minorly stalk him as she weighed the pros and cons of connecting with him. Clocking the close-following car, Rick pulls into a gas station to confront his stalker, only to realize it...

‘Batwoman 2×13: I’ll Give You A Clue’ Review
Image
Stars: Javicia Leslie, Rachel Skarsten, Meagan Tandy, Nicole Kang, Camrus Johnson, Dougray Scott | Created by Caroline Dries

Batwoman introduces us to a new villain this week, Cluemaster, and while he is nothing more than a knockoff version of Batman’s nemesis, the Riddler, he does help get the series back on track after a rough episode last week. I’m guessing Batwoman didn’t have the rights to show the Riddler character (he is mentioned though!), so they made the best with what they could. The positive is that another fan-favorite from the comics is introduced this week, which opens the possibility for another hero joining Team Batwoman in the future.

Update from last week: After several episodes of not calling the villain by his name of Black Mask and even calling him False Face, it seems the series is back to calling him Black Mask. I give up.

Batwoman Season 2 Episode 13 Review: I'll Give You A Clue
Javicia Leslie in Batwoman (2019)
I admire a well-thought-out and implemented theme, and Batwoman Season 2 Episode 13 impresses with not one, not two, but Three father storylines that, ironically, aired on Mother's Day.

The other theme is that of unmasking and revelation. We get Sophie and Ryan coming clean with each other, Jacob's secret being thrust into the light, and Alice's sudden realization that "Circe" is Kate.

And yet, with all the developments in terms of long-term plots and character relationships, the highlight of the whole hour for me was Luke and Stephanie's sweet little kiss.

The kicker is that, with only five episodes left in the season, I can't imagine we'll be seeing Stephanie Brown again soon.

Ryan: So you woke up to discover you were covered in some coded message?

Stephanie: You say that like your dad doesn't write cryptograms on you while you're unconscious.

Permalink: You say that like your dad doesn't write...
