Robert Marshall
Robert was born in Launceston, Tasmania in 1952. He spent his early childhood in India and Hong Kong until 1958 when his family returned home to Perth, Australia. He moved to the UK in 1971, graduated from the London Film School in 1974 and joined the BBC. There he spent the next twenty years writing, directing and producing over 50 titles for numerous departments including Drama, Music & Arts and the History Unit. Titles included All the King's Men, Light in the Dark, Summer of the Bomb, Storm From the East. In 1994 he set up Mars Productions and continued to produce a number of history series for The Learning Channel, Arts & Entertainment, ZDF, Channel Four and NHK. In 1999 he set up Heritage Theatre, the first video production company to work exclusively with theatre companies, capturing live performances for distribution to audiences around the world. For the next eight years he produced some 20 live, multi-camera recordings with the Royal Shakespeare Company, The Donmar Warehouse Theatre, Bristol Old Vic, the National Theatre and Shakespeare's Globe Theatre. In 2011 he joined Shakespeare's Globe Theatre, helped set up Globe on Screen and Exec. Produced over twenty live recordings. In Darkness (2011) was adapted from his book, In the Sewers of Lvov. He still produces broadcasts of live theatre and teaches Screen Arts at Curtin University in his native Australia.
