Paramount+ has officially renewed Landman starring Oscar winner Billy Bob Thornton and co-created by Taylor Sheridan and Christian Wallace. After being listed as one of the Top 10 Subscription Video on Demand (SVOD) original series for the fourth quarter of 2024, the renewal is not surprising.

Paramount+ reports that the fourth quarter Top 10 SVOD list marked the first time a streamer, other than Netflix, has earned three spots. Paramount+ was represented by Tulsa King (#4), Landman (#8), and Lioness (#9).

“Landman was one of the biggest shows of the year because of Taylor Sheridan’s unique ability to tap into the cultural zeitgeist, harnessing the Neo-Western themes of rugged individualism, ambition, and working-class struggles set against contemporary debates around energy, climate change and economic growth,” stated Chris McCarthy, President and CEO, Showtime/MTV Entertainment Studios and Paramount Media Networks.

Paramount+ has given the green light to Landman Season 2 after the series ranked as a Top 10 SVOD (Subscription Video on Demand) title across all SVOD titles for the fourth quarter of 2024.

To be specific, the series ranked in eighth place for the quarter (according to Nielsen) while Paramount+ series Tulsa King ranked fourth and Lioness ranked ninth. Landman had 35 million global streaming viewers for the premiere episode and set new records for Paramount+.

Landman had the most watched global premiere and finale of any series in Paramount+ history and was the No. 1 original ever on the service. Billy Bob Thornton also scored a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actor in a Drama Series for his role as Tommy Norris.

Season one is available to stream exclusively on Paramount+.

Paramount+ is officially buying up more real estate for Tayor Sheridan’s contemporary Western drama Landman. The network announced Landman Season 2 on Wednesday afternoon, giving fans of the series starring Billy Bob Thornton, Ali Larter, and Demi Moore a reason to get excited about the future.

In addition to announcing Landman Season 2, Paramount+ is excited to share that Landman scored in the Top 10 of Nielsen’s Original Series chart for Q4 across all SVOD titles. Alongside Paramount+’s Tulsa King (4th place) and Lioness (9th place), Landman stakes its claim in the 8th spot. Landman season 2 has officially been renewed at Paramount+. The Taylor Sheridan-created series tells the story of life working on and running a modern-day West Texas oil rig, as well as chronicling the lives of those who live in the town surrounding the rig. The Landman cast includes Billy Bob Thornton, Demi Moore, Ali Larter, James Jordan, Paulina Chavez, Mustafa Speaks, and Jon Hamm. The series ran weekly for 10 episodes, wrapping up the story at the beginning of this year.

Per Deadline, Landman has been officially renewed for season 2. The source noted that the series had the best Paramount+ debut in two years, citing this as a likely reason for the renewal. The exact timeline for the production schedule and release date for season 2 has yet to be announced.

Landman ranked among the top 10 original streaming series during the fourth quarter of last year and continued its strong run into January, racking up almost 9.7 billion minutes of viewing over 11 weeks in Nielsen’s top 10 streaming rankings. In the world of Landman, there are many tough characters -- particularly Antonio, the roughneck played by actor Octavio Rodriguez. The audience for “Landman” is only getting bigger. The Taylor Sheridan drama starring Billy Bob Thornton was seen by 14.9 million households globally in its first four weeks, according to internal metrics for Paramount+.

This number cements “Landman” as the most-watched Paramount+ original of all time. MTV Entertainment Studios and 101 Studios, which are behind the series, are now responsible for the five most-watched originals on the streamer. While “Landman” takes the first place spot, it’s followed by “1923,” “Tulsa King,” “Lioness” and “1883.” All five of these dramas come from “Yellowstone” creator Taylor Sheridan, and two of them are set in the “Yellowstone” universe.

It was already known that “Landman” was performing well. The series’ premiere drew in 5.2 million viewers, making it the biggest Paramount+ premiere in two years.

Yellowstone creator Taylor Sheridan’s new Billy Bob Thornton-led series Landman, currently airing on Paramount+, is seeing a few bumps in the ratings road. It debuted recently at No. 3 on Paramount+’s streaming charts, but per Collider, it has slipped down to No. 6 in recent weeks. Landman did debut just behind Tulsa King and Lioness, starring Sylvester Stallone and Zoe Saldaña, respectively.

At No. 6, Landman fell behind fellow Sheridan shows Lioness and Tulsa King as well as Paramount+ mainstays like NCIS and NCIS: Origins. As if the sliding up and down the charts wasn’t enough for concern, one Landman actor is uncertain about the future of the series. In an interview with Screen Rant, Jacob Lofland, who plays Cooper Norris in Landman, said he hopes the show will get a Season 2, but he’s not sure if that will be the case.

As Taylor Sheridan continues to be one of the busiest scribes working on television today, the Yellowstone and Landman creator may have connected the two series through one piece of dialog. Following the fourth episode of Landman on Paramount+, fans noticed a nearly verbatim line spoken by Yellowstone's Beth Dutton (Kelly Reilly). The quotation is so similar that some have suggested it's a low-key Easter Egg, while others have flat-out accused Sheridan of lazy writing.

While Sheridan may be laying the groundwork to tie in one of his multiple Yellowstone spin-offs, including 6666 and The Madison, a closer look at the repeated dialog may help clear up the facts.
