Paramount+ has officially renewed Landman starring Oscar winner Billy Bob Thornton and co-created by Taylor Sheridan and Christian Wallace. After being listed as one of the Top 10 Subscription Video on Demand (SVOD) original series for the fourth quarter of 2024, the renewal is not surprising.
Paramount+ reports that the fourth quarter Top 10 SVOD list marked the first time a streamer, other than Netflix, has earned three spots. Paramount+ was represented by Tulsa King (#4), Landman (#8), and Lioness (#9).
“Landman was one of the biggest shows of the year because of Taylor Sheridan’s unique ability to tap into the cultural zeitgeist, harnessing the Neo-Western themes of rugged individualism, ambition, and working-class struggles set against contemporary debates around energy, climate change and economic growth,” stated Chris McCarthy, President and CEO, Showtime/MTV Entertainment Studios and Paramount Media Networks.

“Landman” will be returning for a Season 2. It’s an unsurprising move from Paramount+ considering how big of a hit the Billy Bob Thornton-led drama has been for the streamer.
The premiere episode of the Taylor Sheridan series secured 35 million streaming viewers globally, making it the most streamed premiere episode in the history of Paramount+. Additionally, “Landman” set internal records for debuting the most-watched finale in the history of the streamer and becoming the No. 1 most-watched Paramount+ original, the No. 1 engagement driver and No. 1 show in households.
The success of “Landman” continued a hot streak for Sheridan and Paramount+. Three of Sheridan’s streaming originals — “Landman,” “Tulsa King” and “Lioness” — ranked among Nielsen’s list of the Top 10 SVOD Original Series during the fourth quarter of 2024. According to the report, the new season is gearing up to start filming later this month. Notably, the first season was also filmed in the Fort Worth area. Taylor Sheridan took Hollywood by surprise when “Yellowstone” quietly became one of the biggest TV hits of the last decade. The monster success of that show even convinced Paramount to reverse course on a plan to turn Paramount Network, where the neo-Western airs, into a movies-only channel.
But no one is surprised now, as Sheridan has since created a sprawling TV empire for the studio centered on Paramount+. Alongside “Yellowstone” spinoffs “1883” and “1923,” the hit Sylvester Stallone drama “Tulsa King,” Jeremy Renner’s small town noir series “Mayor of Kingstown,” the biographical drama “Lawmen: Bass Reeves” starring David Oyelowo and Dennis Quaid, “Special Ops: Lioness” with Zoe Saldaña and “Landman” starring Billy Bob Thornton prove Sheridan is no flash in the pan.

Texas may be far from Hollywood, but its soil is fertile grounds for plenty of drama. Paramount+ is just one of the most recent studios to capitalize on the Lone Star State’s sweeping vistas, placing them at the center of the hit drama Landman. Since its debut, the oil-slicked show has made a splash with audiences. Its power-hungry oil barons have all the smooth-talking charm of a classic Doc Holliday, its sandy vistas recall hazy gunfights, and its endless drama treads the same hairpin turns as its predecessors. Everything is there; it’s just wrapped in a modern coat of paint.
Paramount+’s latest dramatic darling debuted in November 2024. Its writing is led by its creators, Taylor Sheridan and Christian Wallace. And, like all good shows, its outstanding cast makes everything work. Unfortunately for fans, the show currently has just ten episodes and ended its first season run in...

Yellowstone might have ended, but there's still a lot to know about the Dutton family. With a few spin-offs on the way, no one knows for sure what the future holds for the Dutton family. Their family's past, however, has already been set in stone, as seen in its two prequel series, 1883 and 1923. The second and final season of 1923 will premiere on February 23, so now would be the perfect opportunity for an 1883 re-watch. 1883 explores the first chapter in the origin of the Dutton family dynasty, showing that hardship and suffering truly do run the family, dating back to the days of the old American West.
The show introduced several new and memorable characters, some of the best that Taylor Sheridan has ever written. Of course, having an impressive cast of actors to help bring them to life certainly made them all the more memorable. The show's inevitably tragic conclusion led...

There are several other movies and shows similar to Netflix's epic period Western series American Primeval. American Primeval was written by Mark L. Smith, who co-wrote the screenplay for The Revenant with Alejandro G. Iñárritu. Peter Berg directs all six episodes of American Primeval. Taylor Kitsch leads an ensemble cast as Isaac Reed, which features Betty Gilpin, Dane DeHaan, Saura Lightfoot-Leon, Shea Whigham, Lucas Neff, and Kim Coates as Brigham Young. In addition to Young, American Primeval alters several real-life historical details and figures.
American Primeval uniquely blends brutal and violent elements of the horror genre with the classic Western. Despite its 59% Rotten Tomatoes score, it earned an 86% audience score and has been in Netflix's Top 10 TV Shows in the United States since it was released on January 9, 2025. Kitsch previously starred in the Peter Berg film Lone Survivor alongside Mark Wahlberg and Berg's classic television series Friday Night Lights.

Spoiler Alert! This story contains details from the season one finale of Landman on Paramount+.
The first season of Taylor Sheridan’s drama about the West Texas oil industry came to a conclusion Jan. 12 with a special appearance by a Hollywood great and a promise that Tommy’s problems with the cartel are far from over.
Here, star Billy Bob Thornton (Tommy Norris) talks about the latest cast addition, what we can expect from Demi Moore’s character going forward, and if he knows anything about a season 2 of the series. But first, Thornton had a few thoughts to share about the victims of the L.A. wildfires.
“My heart goes out to all the people who are suffering in Southern California right now from these fires,” Thornton told Deadline. “I lost our house, my family and I when my oldest son was four months old in the ’93 Malibu fire.

"The Crumbs of Hope" closes out the Paramount+ show in a satisfying way that leaves room for future stories. With one episode remaining in Landman's inaugural season, all eyes turn to see how Tommy (Billy Bob Thornton) and Cami (Demi Moore) will handle the inevitable cartel confrontation when the finale airs on January 12, 2025. Of course, one episode prior, "WolfCamp," featured a wildly unexpected cameo appearance from Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones, a master media manipulator who understands how to control a public narrative.
Then again, on closer inspection, Jones' cameo is more pertinent to Landman's themes than may first appear. His grand monologue may fudge a few facts and streamline his background, but heeding Jones' advice may be more valuable than one might expect for a show about the highly profitable oil and gas industry. For more context, here's everything to know about Jerry Jones' Landman cameo.

Season 2 of Paramount+'s Special Ops: Lioness concluded on December 8, 2024, reminding TV viewers how bonkers Taylor Sheridan's writing can become. The sprawling international spy thriller is loaded with one unpredictable twist and unforeseen turn after another, proving Sheridan to be the most skilled and in-demand TV scribe working today.
At last glance, CIA operative Joe McNamara (Zoe Saldaña) is forced to deal with Operation Sky Hawk, a spy mission finding Kaitlyn Meade (Nicole Kidman) and Byron Westfield (Michael Kelly) recruiting Pablo Carrillo (Demian Castro). Warning: Major Spoilers lie ahead for Landman's first eight episodes!Ariana's life is growing all the more complicated, even as she starts to find some positive changes, as Landman season 1 nears an end. Portrayed by Paulina Chávez, Ariana was introduced in episode 2 of the Taylor Sheridan-co-created show, being the widow of Elvio and mourning the loss of her husband and his family in the episode 1 oil rig explosion in which Jacob Lofland's Cooper was the only survivor. While the rest of Elvio's family turned to blaming Cooper for the accident, Ariana proved to be the outlier, recognizing his desire to help and shared trauma over the incident.
Recent episodes of Landman have seen Cooper and Ariana's relationship evolving further, beginning with episode 6, in which the former was hospitalized after being beaten and left for dead by the latter's cousins-in-law. Episode 7 saw Ariana bring Cooper to her home...

Landman is the latest addition to creator Taylor Sheridan’s portfolio of hit television shows. The series stars Billy Bob Thornton as Tommy Norris, a landman at an oil company, and explores the cutthroat world of oilfields in West Texas. In the series, the supporting character Dale Bradley is played by actor James Jordan, who is a mainstay in most of Sheridan’s creations.

Despite sharing a good professional bond with Sheridan, Jordan holds an uncanny record. The actor has a history of having his characters killed off in shows created by Sheridan. As a result, fans are fearing that Jordan’s Dale Bradley will also face a similar fate before Landman concludes its first season. Here is what fans have to say about Jordan’s character in Landman.

Landman star Michelle Randolph defends the controversial Ainsley storyline in the Taylor Sheridan-created Paramount+ drama. Randolph's character, Ainsley Norris, is introduced in the premiere episode of Landman, which is based on the podcast by co-creator Christian Wallace. She's in a relationship with Dakota Loving (Drake Rodger), a young man that her father Tommy Norris (Billy Bob Thornton) doesn't approve of. But early on, Randolph's scenes drew a lot of attention online because of how Ainsley was depicted despite being only 17 years old.
In an interview with Screen Rant's Grant Hermanns to discuss Landman, which streams Sundays on Paramount+, Randolph discusses the online response to Ainsley's controversial depiction and viral scenes. The actor explained that she put her effort into developing the character and filming. Beyond that, she says that it's not her job to decide what viewers should take away from the scenes. Landman has firmly established itself as one of the biggest shows of the year and we were recently able to catch up with the show's leading lady Ali Larter (Final Destination; Legally Blonde; Resident Evil: The Final Chapter) to talk about playing one of the most fiery characters of her career.
Larter breaks down working opposite the legendary Billy Bob Thornton for the first time, as well as working with series creator Taylor Sheridan for the first time, and also gets into what brings her character back into the fold after some time away.
As per the synopsis, Landman is "Set in the proverbial boomtowns of West Texas, Landman is a modern-day tale of fortune seeking in the world of oil rigs. The series is an upstairs/downstairs story of roughnecks and wildcat billionaires fueling a boom so big, it’s reshaping our climate, our economy and our geopolitics."

Taylor Sheridan has seemingly learned from his mistakes concerning Kayce and Monica's love story in Yellowstone, as evidenced by the development of one couple in his new show, Landman. Sheridan continues his TV dominance with the Paramount+ drama series, which follows Billy Bob Thornton's Tommy. Thornton's character is a landman at an oil company who handles problems with local landowners, oil patch crews, and sometimes the cartel. As such, Tommy faces a lot of danger. He often gets into himself sticky situations, just like the Dutton family did in Yellowstone.
New episodes of Landman drop on Sundays on Paramount+. The season 1 finale (episode 10), "The Crumbs of Hope," will be released on Sunday, January 12, 2025.
Unfortunately, Yellowstone has seemingly come to an end after season 5, part 2. Some reports claim that a sixth season is possible, but with Beth and Rip's spinoff and several other shows (like Landman) on Sheridan's plate, he...

The following contains spoilers for Landman Season 1, Episodes 4 & 5, "The Sting of Second Chances" and "Where Is Home," now streaming on Paramount+.
In the world of Landman, there are many tough characters -- particularly Antonio, the roughneck played by actor Octavio Rodriguez. Antonio lost several members of his family in the tragedy from the series premiere, and he and Manuel are determined to get revenge for it. But when they take that plan several steps too far, it's Antonio and Manuel who end up paying the price.
In an interview with Cbr, Rodriguez discusses playing a character who starts from a place of grief and anger. He also speaks fondly of his off-screen relationships with co-stars J.R. Villareal and Jacob Lofland, and his experience working on not one, but two Taylor Sheridan shows. And he looks back at his previous guest appearance on Chicago P.D. in a very different role.

Movies like Sicario offer explosive action, thought-provoking political intrigue, and awards-pedigree acting talent. Released in 2015, Sicario is a slow-burning thriller about the nuances of drug cartel operations and the border between the U.S. and Mexico. Directed by Denis Villeneuve, the movie focuses on three perspectives: an FBI agent, played by Emily Blunt; a secretive government agent, played by Josh Brolin; and an even shadowier assassin, played by Benicio del Toro. The film was a critical and commercial success, and it got a sequel three years later, Sicario: Day of the Soldado.

Yellowstone creator Taylor Sheridan’s new Billy Bob Thornton-led series Landman, currently airing on Paramount+, is seeing a few bumps in the ratings road. It debuted recently at No. 3 on Paramount+’s streaming charts, but per Collider, it has slipped down to No. 6 in recent weeks. Landman did debut just behind Tulsa King and Lioness, starring Sylvester Stallone and Zoe Saldaña, respectively.
At No. 6, Landman fell behind fellow Sheridan shows Lioness and Tulsa King as well as Paramount+ mainstays like NCIS and NCIS: Origins. As if the sliding up and down the charts wasn’t enough for concern, one Landman actor is uncertain about the future of the series. In an interview with Screen Rant, Jacob Lofland, who plays Cooper Norris in Landman, said he hopes the show will get a Season 2, but he’s not sure if that will be the case.

As Taylor Sheridan continues to be one of the busiest scribes working on television today, the Yellowstone and Landman creator may have connected the two series through one piece of dialog. Following the fourth episode of Landman on Paramount+, fans noticed a nearly verbatim line spoken by Yellowstone's Beth Dutton (Kelly Reilly). The quotation is so similar that some have suggested it's a low-key Easter Egg, while others have flat-out accused Sheridan of lazy writing.
While Sheridan may be laying the groundwork to tie in one of his multiple Yellowstone spin-offs, including 6666 and The Madison, a closer look at the repeated dialog may help clear up the facts. Whether an Easter egg or a product of hasty storytelling, it's clear that the blue-collar characters in Landman and Yellowstone do not care for those with higher education.

Angela Russo has been Landman's most unpredictable character. Tommy Norris's ex-wife, played by Resident Evil star Ali Larter, flew back from her vacation and decided to stir up trouble in Texas. But underneath her quips and country club antics, Angela still has a massive amount of unresolved feelings about Tommy and their family. How does Larter balance the two?

Lofland, who is also recognized for playing Aris in The Maze Runner franchise, said that he hopes the show will be renewed but doesn't know if it will happen. Morgan Freeman is one of the most respected living actors today. Becoming known for his distinctive voice and knack for drama, the actor has been nominated for five Oscars for his acting, winning one for Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role for Clint Eastwood's Million Dollar Baby. Freeman is 87 years old now, but has still continued to have a vibrant career throughout his twilight years. This has included roles in A Good Person, Hitman's Wife's Bodyguard, 57 Seconds, and Gunner.
While Freeman's career has largely been dominated by the film side of things, the actor actually got his start on television. His first role was playing Count Dracula in the 1970s version of the Electric Company, arriving several years before he made his way onto the film seen. Throughout his career, he also appeared as a guest star on the series Madam Secretary and The Kominsky Method.
