Raquel Almazan was born in Madrid, Spain and is also of Costa Rican descent, raised in the U.S. Both of her parents were farmers and big dreamers, inspiring her eclectic career as (actor, writer, director, activist) and educator for social change. Awarded the Latinidad Award from the Kennedy Center, she is shaking up Latinx representation for a new generation with her performances and original content. She is currently developing the comedy pilot CHUTUP! based on her life and work in NYC.

Some noted roles include: Alicia Alicia Watkins on Limitless opposite Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio, Maricela on Law & Order: SVU, as Rosa Heredia opposite James Spader on The Black List, Rita Campos on White Collar, a Cuban exile opposite Cristina Ricci in PAN AM. Additional roles on Blue Bloods and The Michael J. Fox Show.

Her first love was theatre, noted roles include: La Negra at Lincoln Center workshop, performance at BRIC Arts and the title role in La Paloma Prisoner upcoming at New York Theatre Workshop, Lady MacBeth in MacBeth, and Mrs. Papov in Chekov's The Bear. At El Museo del Barrio, she played the lead in Escaping Juarez, Deviant Borders as the male Chamuco, (New World Theatre Mass.) Reading of leading role with Labyrinth Theatre in The Mother f**ker with the Hat directed by Stephen Adly Guirgis. Collaborating with Bill T. Jones on Marc Bamuthi Joseph's libretto workshop for MOVE; playing the role of Glenda in development with Opera Philadelphia.

She has performed in over 100 venues, including The Kennedy Center, The Actors Studio, City Center, La Mama, Repertorio Espanol, INTAR, Pregones, Dixon Place and in independent films that screened at Cannes, HBO NYLIFF, Canada International, Honolulu, Mexico, and Philadelphia International Festivals. Film: Her feature film directorial debut with the mockumentary White Alligator- (International Puerto Rican Heritage Film Festival, Art of Brooklyn Film Festival, International Bled Film Festival Slovenia *Winner Best Actress) Writer's Lab with National Association of Latin Independent Producers for her feature screenplay Death of the Doll, the short screened at Boyle Heights Latina Independent Film Extravaganza in L.A. and Naked Angels Theatre Reading Series.

Raquel is also a seasoned writer, holds an M.F.A. in Playwriting from Columbia University. Recipient of the Kate Neal Kinley Playwriting Fellowship. She holds a B.F.A. in Theatre from University of Florida/New World School of the Arts Conservatory. Her original work has participated in New York City- including Off-Broadway, throughout the United States and internationally in Greece, Italy, Slovenia, Colombia, Guatemala and Sweden. She has several plays completed, in the largest play cycle attempted in the US, The Latin is America Play Cycle, a play written in dedication for each Latin American country.
