Biography

    • Jason is a member of the Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation. His mother is Native American (Potawatomi and Kickapoo), his father is of Scottish and German descent. Jason is an accomplished filmmaker, producer, editor, and director (credited as Jason Turner) . A music video he shot and directed won the Art at Work award in 2013 from the Arts Council of Kansas City (ArtsKC). Many of his films have screened at film festivals. His motion comic, The Iron Detective: Sentinel, won the Achievement in Animation award at the 2017 LA Skins Fest and streamed nationally on Xfinity Streampix. That short and its sequel, The Iron Detective: Bitter Heart, are streamed nationally on SkinsPlex. Those same shorts have screened at Planet Comicon in Kansas City.

      Jason has also served on Planet Comicon panels. For four years he ran the Kansas City 48 Hour Film Project (KC's branch of the 48 Hour Film Project). Jason's most iconic role is Alex Calibourne, aka "Iron Joe", in The Iron Detective series, based on a character he created in high school. It was eventually made into a live action short known as The Iron Detective: Bitter Heart. He is also a published comic book author. His comic book "Sentinel" can be found on Amazon. It has been made into an animation short, The Iron Detective: Sentinel. His latest live action short in the same series, The Iron Detective: The Exonetic Division, had its first screening at the 2019 LA Skins Fest.

      As an actor, Jason has played a wide range of roles including a thrill seeking bank robber, a civil war outlaw, and a man experimenting in dimensional travels. A veteran actor of several shorts and features over the years, his experience has cultivated a unique perspective on film.

  • Jason is related by blood to the Cole Younger gang, and related by marriage to the Jesse James gang.
  • As a young boy, he won a newspaper writing contest for a scary story called "The Gold Box." He read some of his mother's Stephen King's novels and was frightened and fascinated, and most importantly inspired.
  • He was a member of the National Honor Society in high school.
  • Jason was a quiet young man. He was advised by a seventh grade teacher to take acting classes to help with his speaking volume. As a result, the acting bug bit him. In high school he played Chino in West Side Story, Sitting Bull in Annie Get Your Gun, Sebastian in Nude With Violin, and many other roles in various plays, musicals, and dinner theater.
