Lionsgate acquires Nikhil Nagesh Bhat’s ‘Kill’
Image
Lionsgate has acquired the North American and U.K. rights to the Indian action movie ‘Kill’ for theatrical release in 2024. Kill is directed by Nikhil Nagesh Bhat and produced by Karan Johar & Apoorva Mehta for Dharma Productions and Guneet Monga Kapoor & Achin Jain for Sikhya Entertainment.

This groundbreaking deal marks the first time an Indian production has partnered with a Hollywood studio on a theatrical release in North America and the U.K. for a mainstream Hindi language film.

Starring newcomer Lakshya alongside Raghav Juyal and Tanya Maniktala, the extreme action flick made its world premiere at this year’s Toronto International Film Festival as a Midnight Madness selection.

In the film, star-crossed lovers Tulika (Maniktala) and Amrit (Lakshya) find their clandestine relationship jeopardized after Tulika’s family whisks her aboard the Rajdhani Express bound for New Delhi and an arranged marriage. But commandos Amrit and his friend are far...

Kill (2023)
Lionsgate Nabs US and UK Rights for Indian Actioner ‘Kill’
Kill (2023)
Lionsgate has partnered with Dharma Productions and Sikhya Entertainment to grab distribution rights in North America and the UK for the Indian actioner “Kill.”

While Indian films have played in North American theaters regularly, often in semi-wide or wide releases, it’s much less common for a major Hollywood studio to participate stateside. In fact, this is the first for a Hindi-language feature.

The Hindi-language flick, due for theatrical release in 2024, can be loosely described as “Die Hard on a train,” with the lone wolf hero (Lakshya) doing his best to dispatch the bandits (led by Raghav Juyal) so he can complete his journey to save his beloved (Tanya Maniktala) from an arranged marriage.

Directed by Nikhil Nagesh Bhat, “Kill” is produced by Karan Johar & Apoorva Mehta for Dharma Productions and Guneet Monga Kapoor & Achin Jain for Sikhya Entertainment. The picture made its acclaimed premiere at TIFF as a Midnight Madness selection,...

Image
Exclusive: On the eve of AFM, Lionsgate has picked up North American and UK rights to Indian action movie Kill for theatrical release in 2024.

The rare deal marks one of the first times an Indian production has partnered with a Hollywood studio on a theatrical release in North America and the UK for a mainstream Hindi-language film.

WME Independent, which is handling global sales, brokered the deal on behalf of the filmmakers alongside Christopher Davis and Kaycee Holcomb for Lionsgate.

Kill is directed by Nikhil Nagesh Bhat and produced by Karan Johar and Apoorva Mehta for Dharma Productions and Guneet Monga Kapoor and Achin Jain for Sikhya Entertainment.

Starring newcomer Lakshya alongside Raghav Juyal and Tanya Maniktala, the likely R-rated action movie made its world premiere at this year’s Toronto Film Festival as a Midnight Madness selection.

In the film, star-crossed lovers Tulika (Maniktala) and Amrit (Lakshya) find their...

Pete Davidson
Pete Davidson Horror Thriller ‘The Home’ Acquired by Lionsgate
Pete Davidson
“The Home” has found a home at Lionsgate, TheWrap has learned. The Santa Monica-based studio snapped up domestic distribution rights to the Miramax horror thriller. Pete Davidson headlines while James DeMonaco helmed the feature. The picture is about a former foster child who begins working in a retirement home. Spoiler: The elderly residents and their caretakers have some very diabolical secrets.

The former “Saturday Night Live” castmember previously co-starred in the A24 horror comedy “Bodies Bodies Bodies.” However, this will presumably be a more straightforward (or straight-faced) shocker. DeMonaco previously wrote and directed the first three “The Purge” films and has remained relatively hands-on with the franchise.

“We went into ‘The Home’ not knowing what to expect and James and Pete delivered an exhilarating ride of a movie that is pure suspense-filled fun and just plain bonkers,” stated Charlotte Koh. Lionsgate’s EVP of acquisitions and co-productions boasted that “Audiences...

Pete Davidson Horror Film ‘The Home’ Lands at Lionsgate
Image
Lionsgate has landed U.S. rights to “The Home,” a thriller starring Pete Davidson. The movie, directed by James DeMonaco (“The Purge”), was backed by Miramax and screened for buyers outside of competition at this year’s Toronto Film Festival. It’s expected to land in theaters sometime in 2024.

“The Home” follows Davidson as Max, a former foster child who begins working at a retirement home, only to discover that its residents and caretakers harbor sinister secrets.

“We went into ‘The Home’ not knowing what to expect and James and Pete delivered an exhilarating ride of a movie that is pure suspense-filled fun and just plain bonkers,” says Charlotte Koh, Lionsgate’s executive VP of acquisitions and co-productions. “Audiences won’t know what hit them.”

DeMonaco and Adam Canto wrote “The Home,” which was produced by Bill Block and Sebastian K. Lemercier. Koh will oversee the film for Lionsgate.

“James...

Pete Davidson Horror Film ‘The Home’ Goes To Lionsgate In U.S. Deal; Miramax Debuted ‘The Purge’ Helmer James DeMonaco’s Pic At TIFF
Image
Exclusive: Lionsgate has closed a U.S. deal for The Home, the James DeMonaco-directed thriller that stars Pete Davidson. The film was made be Miramax, and it screened for buyers outside competition at the 2023 Toronto Film Festival in the Industry Selects category that the festival started to highlight commercial films.

If you’ve been scoring from home, this goes down as another deal from TIFF 2023. After a slow start, the festival has led to a wellspring of film deals, one of the fest’s strongest showings in years.

The deal closed after the exit last week of Miramax CEO Bill Block, who made the film and placed it at TIFF. On the Lionsgate side was Charlotte Koh, EVP Acquisitions and Co-Productions, along with the film’s producers, Block and Sebastian K. Lemercier. Look for this one to get a theatrical release in the early part of 2024.

Deal comes right...
