The 15 Best Horror Movies On Hulu
Image
When you think about the best streamers for movie-lovers, it's possible that Hulu might not rise to the top of your list. It has a deceptively deep library, though, as its affiliation with Disney and (what used to be) 20th Century Fox sees a lot of catalog titles making a temporary home there. Like Netflix, the streamer still focuses on relatively newer releases, but there are gems both old and new to be found if you dig through its offerings.

That's true across the board, but for our purposes here, it's also true when looking for good horror movies. The films below aren't ranked, but they're all very good to great examples of the varied tones, styles, and subgenres that horror has to offer. Monsters, killers, devils, and more await -- most will want to kill you, some want to make you laugh (before killing you), and all of them want to scare,...

John Boyega's 13-Year-Old Sci-Fi Film With 91% on Rotten Tomatoes Comes to Peacock Next Month
Image
John Boyega is most commonly known for his work in the Star Wars sequel trilogy playing Finn - the stormtrooper turned Resistance fighter beloved by fans for his denied romance with Oscar Isaac’s Poe Cameron. Boyega played the character throughout all three sequel films and reprised his role in the video games Lego Star Wars: The Force Awakens and Star Wars: Battlefront 2.

Whilst Finn is the role he’s most known for, Boyega’s battles with alien creatures long preceded his appearance in a galaxy far, far away. In fact, Boyega’s first role in a science fiction film was as up-and-coming criminal Moses in Attack the Block.

Mother’s Pride | May 2025 release date confirmed
Stephen Graham
Pub- based comedy drama Mother’s Pride will be in cinemas next year, and the cast has now been confirmed.

The British film industry has been releasing a steady stream of comedy dramas over the last few years, full of homegrown talent both in front of and behind the camera.

In 2018, Stephen Graham and comedian Dave Johns led the cast of wrestling comedy Walk Like A Panther, although perhaps the most notable example is the Fisherman’s Friends series, which chronicled the unlikely story of a group of fisherman who form a band and release an album of sea shanties to critical and commercial acclaim.

This led to life imitating art, as the actual band the film was based on saw a huge surge in popularity, with albums climbing up the charts and multiple sell out national tours.

According to the British Comedy Guide, the team behind Fisherman’s Friends is now producing...

Netflix Cancels Supernatural Show “Lockwood & Co.” After Just One Season
Image
From writer/director Joe Cornish (Attack the Block, The Kid Who Would Be King, Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn), “Lockwood & Co.” premiered on Netflix back in January, and we’ve learned that the series has already been given the axe.

Netflix has cancelled “Lockwood & Co.” after one season, the latest in a long line of streaming shows that have been cancelled by Netflix before they had a chance to build an audience.

Variety reports this afternoon, “Variety understands that while Netflix was very pleased with the show, and especially the work that had gone into it, viewing numbers didn’t meet the threshold to greenlight a second season. But Complete Fiction, which was founded by Cornish together with Edgar Wright, Nira Park and Rachael Prior, will continue to work with Netflix. The companies already have a number of projects in development.”

Complete Fiction said in a statement of their own,...

Let’s Scare Bryan to Death: Philip Ridley’s Heartless with Bede Jermyn
Image
This month on Let’s Scare Bryan to Death, we’re navigating a harsh world as depicted by eccentric storyteller Philip Ridley. I’m a huge fan of Ridley’s surreal 1995 fable, The Passion of Darkly Noon, but I hadn’t realized that almost 15 years later he released another film, the 2009 urban fairy tale Heartless. So, I’m very grateful to this month’s guest, Bede Jermyn, for bringing it to my attention. Jermyn is a fantastic horror journalist who’s a member of the Australian Film Critics Association, a critic and podcaster for The Super Network, and host of Bede Vs. The Living Dead, a podcast devoted to exploring “remakes, re-edits, unofficial follow-ups, etc. to George A. Romero’s 1968 classic Night of the Living Dead.”

Ridley’s Heartless follows Jamie (Jim Sturgess), a lonely photographer who has a heart-shaped birthmark that covers half of his face that makes him very shy.

Lockwood & Co. Season 2 News & Updates: Everything We Know
Image
Warning! Spoilers for Lockwood & Co.!

After Lockwood & Co.’s popular debut on Netflix, a significant question is whether it will get a season 2. Especially with the volatility of TV show cancelations of late, even recent news and updates can swiftly change, making any story’s survival uncertain. Until Netflix releases Lockwood & Co.’s viewership numbers for its first week on the streaming platform, which could provide more insight into the show’s chances at another season, little is assured about its future.

Lockwood & Co. tells the story of three teenage ghost hunters in London, in a world where the young are the only ones who can sense the undead. Corporate agencies have moved into the business of hunting ghosts, but Lockwood and Co. is the only real ghost-hunting team on the show run solely by paranormal teenagers. Headed up by the mysterious but dashing Anthony Lockwood (Cameron Chapman...

Netflix’s Lockwood & Co. Review: a Fun British Teen Ghost Romp
Image
Lockwood & Co. coming to Netflix just six weeks after the streaming service cancelled its last solid adaptation of a British fantasy YA book series in The Bastard Son & The Devil Itself, feels a bit like getting a new puppy after your last one was run over. You’re happy it’s here, obviously, but there’s a tug of wariness about getting too attached.

It’s very easy to get attached to this eight-episode ghost story about three teens running a supernatural detective agency. The cast is charming, the characters are likeable and their world – in which a nightly curfew and platoons of rapier-bearing teens protects London from spectral attack – is solidly conceived.

There are ongoing mysteries plus episodic encounters and an evolving Scooby Gang dynamic between its young leads. It has a touch of Harry Potter plus a touch of Being Human, and families who enjoyed Wednesday together could...

Attack The Block 2 Compared To Terminator 2 & Aliens In Confident Update
Image
Attack The Block 2 is being compared to classic sci-fi sequels Terminator 2: Judgment Day and Aliens by Attack The Block director Joe Cornish. Though Attack The Block didn't perform commercially when it was released in 2011, it received widespread critical acclaim. It garnered several accolades, not to mention that it launched the career of then-19-year-old actor John Boyega, who has since become an international star. Attack The Block is a unique movie that combines elements of horror, science fiction, and comedy as it follows a group of inner-city kids living on a council estate in South London who must defend themselves and their community from predatory alien invaders.

While speaking on The KingCast podcast recently, Cornish discussed his current and future projects, including an exciting update on Attack The Block 2 and what fans of the original cult classic film can expect from the upcoming sequel.

A Christmas Gift From Bob - Jane Fae - 16372
Luke Treadaway at an event for Invincible (2014)
Pure schmaltz. As sweet and sickly as the icing on an over-iced Christmas cake. Yep, a Christmas Gift From Bob has landed. It comes with a cloying mix of feelgood and morality tail, as it delivers peace on earth and goodwill to all cats. Not forgetting the cute Santa suit that Bob, the silent, brooding hero of the story gets to wear while out busking in Covent Garden.

Ok. Rewind. A Christmas Gift is follow-up to A Street Cat Named Bob. That film, aside from a little light dusting with sentiment to make it a bit more palatable to the regular cinema audience, was a sharp, insightful look at the underbelly of London, as seen from the perspective of the street. It was a warm and, in essence, true retelling of how homeless and drug-addicted James Bowen (Luke Treadaway) found salvation through adopting a charming ginger mog, Bob (played...

A Christmas Gift from Bob Review
Image
Since the publication of their bestselling memoir, Bob the ginger street cat and his musician friend James have really gone up in the world. Literary London, with its swanky parties and generous purse, has welcomed the pair with open arms. But for James (Luke Treadaway), the ghosts of his past are never too far from his mind and this Christmas season he is reliving a painful chapter which nearly divided him from his feline sidekick forever.

His flashback is prompted by a (slightly contrived) encounter with a young busker and an unwelcome face from James’ own days of singing for his supper. James persuades the initially mistrustful boy to listen to his story in the hope that it might help him to change his life too. The tale he tells is of his last challenging Christmas as a busker. A time when money was incredibly tight and his ability to...

ITV Drama ‘Singapore Grip’ Called ‘Harmful Non-Representation’ For Colonialism Portrayal (Exclusive)
Image
“The Singapore Grip,” a new drama from ITV, is facing intense scrutiny over its depiction of colonialism, with British East and Southeast Asian media advocacy group Beats calling the series “harmful (non)representation” and “deeply upsetting.”

Adapted from Booker Prize-winning author J.G. Farrell’s 1978 novel by Oscar winner Christopher Hampton (“Dangerous Liaisons”), “The Singapore Grip” is set during World War 2, and focuses on a British family living in Singapore at the time of the Japanese invasion. It stars Luke Treadaway, David Morrissey, Jane Horrocks, Colm Meaney, Charles Dance, Elizabeth Tan and Georgia Blizzard.

The six-part series, produced by Mammoth Screen, has drawn considerable criticism on social media in the last week after ITV released a trailer. In response, Canadian actor Simu Liu, who plays Marvel’s first Asian superhero, Shang-Chi, in Marvel’s “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings,” tweeted in response: “No… just…no.”

No… just…no.

Bob The Cat, Inspiration Behind ‘A Cat Named Bob’ Books & Films, Dies
Image
Bob the Cat, whose story about helping save the life of a recovering London drug addict became the basis for several books and two movies, died Monday.

The news was announced by Hodder & Stoughton, the UK publisher behind the 2012 book A Street Cat Named Bob. It told the story of James Bowen, who in 2007 found Bob injured on the streets and took him in. The pair had come to the attention of the local press as they teamed to sell a magazine to raise funds for the homeless.

The book, a bestseller in the UK, spawned three sequels and a feature film, 2016’s A Street Cat Named Bob, that starred Bob himself and Luke Treadaway as Bowen. It was directed by Roger Spottiswoode. A second movie, A Gift From Bob, starring Treadaway and based on another of the four books, is now in postproduction.
