Originally from St. Louis, MO, Tanya Alexander was a high school valedictorian and Summa Cum Laude/Phi Beta Kappa graduate of St. Louis University's theatre program. Tanya also received a two-year certification in Musical Theatre at AMDA-New York. In the 90's, Tanya toured globally as a dancer with a number of recording artists, included Joe and Missy Elliot. She appeared in dozens of musicals and stage plays, booking her first national tour in 'The Wiz' (1997) with entertainment great, Grace Jones. She would also work Off-Broadway in 'In Dahomey' (1999) at Woody King's New Federal Theatre, and claim a role on the ever-popular 'Law & Order: SVU' (2000). Her 2001 move to Los Angeles would bring television and movie roles; and score of film, web, commercial, motion capture, video game, and voice over projects; as well as more stage productions including 'Human Interest Story' at The Fountain Theatre, 'Clybourne Park' at The Mark Taper Forum, and 'Tartuffe: Born Again' at Theatricum Botanicum. She has several award wins including Best Music Video at the Hollywood Black Film Festival (2009) and Best Supporting Actress at the Santa Monica Film Festival ('Beyond Doubt' 2016). She is also an accomplished spoken word/poetry artist and has released two spoken word albums, 'Pieces of Tanya: A Spoken Word Project' and 'Inside'. With a distinct alto voice, unique look and strong presence, she will continue to make an indelible mark in acting and entertainment.
