Arranca el rodaje en localizaciones de Madrid de Se tiene que morir mucha gente, una nueva serie original Movistar Plus+ creada por Victoria Martín y basada en su exitosa novela homónima.

Se tiene que morir mucha gente sigue a Bárbara, Maca y Elena, que fueron juntas al colegio y 20 años después siguen siendo amigas, más o menos. Bárbara es una bomba de relojería: está frustrada con su trabajo y enganchada a las benzodiacepinas. Maca, con la que comparte piso, intenta triunfar como actriz, aunque es camarera. Y Elena está embarazada tras casarse con un director de hotel de 60 años. La crisis personal de Bárbara hará que todo explote.

Spain’s Goya Nominations: Pedro Almodóvar’s ‘The Room Next Door’ Snubbed for Best Picture

The Spanish film academy gave a surprise snub to its best-known director when Pedro Almodóvar’s The Room Next Door was not nominated for best film for the Goya Film Awards, Spain’s equivalent to the Oscars.

The Room Next Door picked up 13 Goya nominations, including best director for Almodóvar and best acting nominations for both of the film’s leads, Tilda Swinton and Julianne Moore, but the film was left out of the best picture category. Perhaps the language barrier — it’s Almodóvar’s first English-language feature — counted against it among Spanish academy voters.

Instead, the Goya’s best picture race will include five Spanish-language features: Casa en flames from director Dani de la Orden, Marcel Barrena’s El 47, La estrella azul from Javier Macipe, Arantxa Echevarría’s La infiltrada, and Segundo premio from director Isaki Lacuesta and Pol Rodríguez, which was Spain’s official Oscar submission this year.

Sílvia Abril Leads SkyShowtime’s ‘Mamen Mayo’

Sílvia Abril (Padre no Hay Más que Uno) has been cast to lead SkyShowtime drama series Mamen Mayo. She will play the title character act opposite fellow leads Pablo Capuz (Merlí. Sapere Aude), Mona Martínez (La Novia Gitana) and Clara Sans (Cardo). Abril’s character is billed as an “extremely intelligent inheritance mediator, who is at the pinnacle of her career.” She leads a team of mediators who in each episode attempt to resolve the conflicts of interest within families entangled in inheritance disputes. Also cast are Oscar de la Fuente, Francisco Reyes, Javier Pereira, and Toni Acosta as Rebeca Mayo, Mamen’s sister. The eight-part, half-hour series comes from Nostromo Pictures in association with SkyShowtime. Eduard Sola is the creator, and serves as showrunner alongside Miguel Ángel Faura. Se ha publicado el primer tráiler de la película “El 47”, dirigida por Marcel Barrena y coescrita junto a Alberto Marini (“El Desconocido”).

Basada en hechos reales, “El 47” se sitúa en los años 60 y 70. La periferia de Barcelona se ha formado y construido en su mayor parte por inmigrantes extremeños y andaluces que han levantado con sus propias manos barrios como Torre Baró. Aun así, no están considerados como parte de la ciudad. Sus chabolas ni siquiera tienen agua corriente o electricidad. Harto de que el Ayuntamiento sostenga que el transporte público no puede llegar a la zona porque las calles son demasiado estrechas e inseguras, el conductor de autobús de la Tmb Manolo Vital intentará demostrar, al volante de “El 47”, que las autoridades se equivocan.

Now, while other films have focused on the folks on the “line”, the “cogs’ if you will. the working “stiff” average “Janes and Joes” punching the time clocks in dramas like Norma Rae and comedies like Office Space, well, this one’s very different as it takes a long look inside the ‘executive suite” and its occupant. Bardem’s Julio Blanco owns a factory that makes scales. He inherited it from his father. And in an all-staff town hall that opens the movie, he talks about how he sees his employees as his “children.” Then he goes on to say that, of course among one’s children there will be favorites. Not to mention, sometimes you have to make “difficult decisions for the good of the family.”

Quad Cinema has announced that “Boundless Bardem,” a retrospective on Javier Bardem’s acting career tied to the release of his upcoming film “The Good Boss,” will run at The Quad in New York City from August 19th – 25th.

The films in the retrospective are Julian Schnabel’s “Before Night Falls“ (35mm); Bigas Luna’s “Golden Balls” (35mm) and “Jamón Jamón” (35mm); Pedro Almodóvar’s “Live Flesh” (35mm); Bond film “Skyfall” (4K); Asghar Farhadi’s “Everybody Knows”; Ethan and Joel Coen’s “No Country for Old Men,” Fernando León de Aranoa’s “Loving Pablo” and “Mondays in the Sun”; Álex de la Iglesia’s “Perdita Durango”, Darren Aronofsky’s “Mother!”; and Alejandro Amenábar’s “The Sea Inside.”

New York-based Cohen Media Group has acquired all U.S. rights to Javier Bardem-starrer “The Good Boss” (“El Buen Patrón”), Spain’s submission to the international feature film Oscars race at the 2022 Academy Awards.

The deal was negotiated by Cmg senior VP Robert Aaronson and Fionnuala Jamison, managing director, MK2, which is handling international sales on the film.

Written and directed by Fernando León de Aranoa, “The Good Boss” world premiered at September’s San Sebastián Festival, where it was one of the best received of main competition films, critics especially highlighting Bardem’s central performance.

Released by Tripictures in Spain, it has grossed €1.64 million ($1.9 million) after its first three weekends, a resilient result in a still under-performing Spanish box office.

Say you’re hitching a ride at the side of a lonely highway, and two cars slow down at once. One is driven by Anton Chigurh, the taciturn, helmet-haired serial killer played to Oscar-winning effect by Javier Bardem in “No Country for Old Men.” At the wheel of the other is Blanco, the grayly respectable factory CEO essayed by the same actor in “The Good Boss.” Seems like an easy choice, though by the end of the latter film, you might be inclined to take your chances with the psychopath.
