‘Lovers Anonymous’ Cast And Character Guide
Image
Lovers Anonymous has to be one of the most original web series to come out of Netflix Turkey. This is a story of two love/relationship experts who are forced to work with each other, and have different opinions of how to solve any crisis they come across in their clients’ lives. The duo work in a love hospital and have vast knowledge of the subject. Dealing with the patients is the hard part, and their struggles form a bulk of the show.

Cem

Halit Ergenç is Cem, the love expert who has never shown his real face to the public, thanks to his body image issues from a young age. Cem has been a relationship expert for many years, and hence now has transformed into an ‘guru’ who runs a hospital and treats love as a disease. Cem has serious intimacy and trust issues, ever since he witnessed his mother cheating on his father.

Turkish Series 'Lovers Anonymous' Full Trailer - Curing 'Love Disease'
Image
"Your last hope. Call me before you ruin your life." Netflix has unveiled the official trailer for a streaming comedy series called Lovers Anonymous, about the kooky guy who runs a Love Hospital in Turkey. A fun look at love in the modern world. This looks like something along the lines of The Lobster or Fingernails or Equals. Cem, scarred by a childhood that crushed his trust in love, runs the "Love Hospital" (to cure those suffering from the "love disease") – until Hazal, who believes in the power of love, disrupts his life. Will they both change each other? Will Cem learn to appreciate the power of love? This stars Halit Ergenc, Funda Eryiğit, Rıza Kocaoğlu, Zerrin Nişancı, Selcuk Borak, İdil Fırat, Ceren Benderlioğlu, & Seda Akman. All of Cem's success and dreams now depend on Hazal, an unexpected presence in his life who, in stark contrast to him, believes that love will save the world.

‘Ashes’ Netflix Film Review: Takes A Decent Lift-Off Only To Crash Land And Leave No Survivors
Image
Netflix’s new Turkish film Ashes is one of those enticing films that know we have a child inside of us that’s always willing to come on a journey where some kind of magic is involved. The film, directed by Erdem Tepegöz, stars Funda Eryigit, Alperen Duymaz, and Mehmet Günsür in major roles. Apart from how gorgeous everybody looks in this film, there is nothing else to connect to concepts like beauty and allure in this erotic thriller, or more bluntly, a sluggish drama in the garb of an erotic thriller.

The movie begins by showing us the life of Gokce, an elegant woman who is married to the owner of a renowned publishing company. They receive a manuscript from an unknown writer, and Gokce takes a liking to it. It’s tilted ‘Ashes,’ which is where the title of the movie comes from. As an audience, we now...

'Ashes' Review — Netflix’s Turkish Romance Is a Wannabe Erotic Thriller
Image
Ashes is the latest in Netflix’s robust slate of Turkish films hitting the streamer in recent months, and one of the more confounding tales it has debuted. It centers on Gökçe (Funda Eryigit), a wealthy woman who gets swept up in the fantasy of a mysterious manuscript that her husband (Mehmet Günsür) gives her to read. The lines between fiction and reality begin to blur when her obsession with the unpublished book leads her to Metin (Alperen Duymaz), a local carpenter who is remarkably similar to the manuscript’s mysterious “M.”...

Official Trailer for Intense Turkish Erotic Thriller 'Ashes' from Netflix
Image
"You chased after a man you don't know?" Netflix has revealed the trailer for a Turkish film titled Ashes, also known as Kül in Turkish, or Ash when it was announced in 2022. Another local Turkish film from Netflix geared mainly for Turkish viewers. This intense erotic thriller depicts the story of a wealthy, married woman falling in love (in an affair) with a mysterious carpenter, which will lead to many conflicts. Starring Mehmet Günsür, Funda Eryiğit, Alperen Durmaz, and Gökçe Eyüboglu. The title of the film is also the name of the novel at the center of the plot. From an intoxicating fantasy to a dangerous affair, a wealthy married woman finds her life irreversibly shattered after picking up an unpublished novel. This looks like it gets intense - both with her fantasy romance with this carpenter guy, and with her husband who gets upset at her. Really feels like...

‘Chokehold’ (2023) Netflix Movie. Review: An Interesting Suspense Thriller
Chokehold is a Turkish film for Netflix directed by Onur Saylak and starring Kivanç Tatlitug and Funda Eryigit.

From the booming Turkish film industry comes this thriller that, without making any noise, we found (at least) quite interesting.

A film with a great virtue: it knows how to carry and create its own narrative rhythm.

Movie Review

You have to get over the first few minutes, in which it seems like one of those rural dramas that apparently, go nowhere: a city couple in a rural environment where everything is elusive and they are not part of the community. Good premise, well developed in terms of images. Then something happens and the film changes, the drama takes shape and the characters, entity.

Just as we have spoken (on other occasions) about characters who are simply carried away by the plot, here it is similar, but well done and balanced. The...

A Turkish Family Reunites 30 Years Later in 'Cici' Film Official Trailer
Image
"I'm not leaving until we wrap." Netflix has unveiled an official trailer for a Turkish drama titled Cici, from filmmaker Berkun Oya (also of Happy New Year London previously). Set to premiere on Netflix for streaming at the end of this month. The synopsis states that years ago a family migrated to the city after a loss. When they reunite in their hometown 30 years later, buried emotions and painful secrets resurface. "A tragic death that brings the family together, reveals the repressed feelings and painful memories that they have kept from each other for around 30 years." The film's cast features Fatih Artman, Sevval Balkan, Ayça Bingöl, Incinur Dasdemir, Yilmaz Erdogan, Funda Eryigit, Olgun Simsek, Nur Sürer, and Okan Yalabik. This really seems like something quite special, an epic tale of a family and many years of emotions. Reminds me of the kind of films Nuri Bilge Ceylan makes. Looks like it might be worth watching.

Warsaw 2016: Clair Obscur review
★★★★☆ Echoing the work of Turkish master Nuri Bilge Ceylan as well as recent Oscar nominee Mustang, Yeşim Ustaoğlu's complex drama Clair Obscur tactfully explores female liberty in a modern-day Turkey torn between its secular and religious tendencies. Ustaoğlu juxtaposes two women who at first glance couldn't be more different: Chenaz (Funda Eryigit), a socially liberal psychiatrist with a healthy sex drive who lives with her boyfriend Cem (Mehmet Kurtulus) and enjoys dancing in nightclubs and drinking wine; and Elmas (Ecem Uzun), a timid and devout young woman forced into marriage with a ruthless older man.

[Tiff Review] Clair Obscur
Life for a woman like Elmas (Ecem Uzun) in Turkey is a living nightmare. An eighteen-year old all but sold to a willing husband (Serkan Keskin‘s Koca) much older than she to clean his house, give her mother-in-law (Sema Poyraz‘s Kaynana) across the hall insulin shots, and — marriage or not — get raped every night, she’s gradually losing her sense of identity and mind. She’s so young and unversed in the world that she makes a game out of folding the sheets atop their bed to see whether a coin will slide from one end to the other without hitting a fold. Elmas’ sole release is watching her neighbor in the adjacent building dance to pop music while sneaking a cigarette on the balcony when no one is looking.

This is the conservative Muslim life we in the western world believe women in the Middle East endure.
