Netflix’s ‘Atlas’ Movie Recap & Ending Explained: How Does Atlas Connect With Smith?
Image
Remember when Tony Stark made an evil robot and everybody got mad at him? In Atlas’ case, it’s most likely that people will hate the makers more than the characters. Known for making big-budget films on disaster and apocalypse, director Brad Peyton imagines a world where a renegade robot breaks free of its programming and takes over every single machine that is run by artificial intelligence. Jeniffer Lopez stars in and as Atlas, Netflix’s latest attempt at making a sci-fi. Atlas starts with great promise, but despite the presence of a stellar cast, it’s Lopez who has to do all the heavy lifting. Her interactions with the AI assistant soon get monotonous and leave very little emotional impact. Since it’s time, you might be thinking of watching the latest Jenifer Lopez-starrer sci-fi action flick, Atlas. The good news for you is, this movie is not just about Lopez. Born in a house where she grew up with robots,...

Image
In recent years we’ve seen plenty of TV shows that seem like they should have been movies, and a few movies that might have been better as TV shows. Atlas suffers from a similar problem but fits into a third, lesser-seen category because, while it draws heavily from a number of classic sci-fi films, it’s a movie that seems like it really wants to be a video game.

Brad Peyton’s film opens with an expository montage introducing us to a world where an army of self-aware A.I.-driven robots, led by an android known as Harlan (Simu Liu), are waging an all-out war against humanity. And just as things appear to be reaching a point of no return, mankind whips out a surprise superweapon and quashes the rebellion, sending Harlan scarpering away on a rocket ship vowing that one day he’ll be back to finish what he started.
