Shogun Fans Should Watch This Wildly Underrated Superhero Movie
Image
Shogun has shaped up to be one of 2024's best TV shows, with FX eyeing multiple seasons. Hiroyuki Sanada's portrayal of Shingen in The Wolverine showcased his talents in a sinister, cerebral role. Fans hope to see Sanada return as Shingen in the MCU, given the character's potential as a formidable villain.

There's no question FX's Shogun is going down as one of 2024's best TV shows. In fact, it might be one of the best series of the year. This is why FX greenlit Shogun Seasons 2 and 3, despite completing James Clavell's novel. A lot has to do with the infectious energy and charm of Hiroyuki Sanada as Lord Yoshii Toranaga, the ruler of Edo who staved off civil war in feudal-era Japan.

As much as new audiences might now be catching up to Hiroyuki Sanada's talents, comic book movie fans are already acquainted with his bombastic performance from The Wolverine.

It’s been nearly 70 years since Godzilla first step foot on the silver screen with Ishiro Honda’s 1954 opus, Gojira. What started as an allegory about the horrors of the atomic bomb and war has since been reimagined myriad times to cover everything from the awesome forces of nature to geopolitical alliances, the absurdities of consumerism to mankind’s inability to curb pollution. Whether Godzilla is a tragic monster, a defender of earth, or children’s role model, there’s no denying the appeal the Big G has to audiences.

Seishin & Maeda’s Relationship In ‘Gyeongseong Creature,’ Explained
Image
The titular character of Gyeongseong Creature is a repugnant monster created as a bioweapon by the Japanese military conducting their experiments on Korean nationals. Loosely based on the Unit 731 experiments, the show takes fictional liberties to personify the horrifying atrocities that took place during that period. It is those with the toughest minds that get the most pain inflicted on them. When Seishin drinks the Najin, she’s calm like the eye of a storm, despite the massive pain she’s enduring. The other woman in her position can’t control the fight with the Najin and ends up harming herself, desperately removing it from her body. Seishin is thick-skinned; even in the hospital, she looks after other people too. Maybe this is why the anthrax serum has such an effect on her, enhancing her strengths and making her massive in size.

Seishin’s story begins with Seong-Sim. While we...

Who All Died In ‘Gyeongseong Creature’? Every Death, Explained
Image
One could say Gyeongseong Creature is Korea’s answer to Stranger Things. While there are many similarities between the two sci-fi shows, they are, of course, based in different eras and play with our emotional heartstrings in unique ways. Gyeongseong Creature follows the owner of a pawnshop in Joseon-era Gyeongseong (present-day Seoul), a little bit before they got independence from the Japanese. The show follows Tae-Sang’s journey from a simple bystander to someone who cares for his people because of the atrocities he sees. It’s a simple story that poses the question, who is the real monster? As it goes with historical fiction, there will be deaths on both sides. So, while we wait patiently for the announcement of a second season, let’s look back at all the important characters that died in season 1.

Myeong-Ja In ‘Gyeongseong Creature’: Did Maeda Make Her Disappear? Will Myeong-Ja Become A Monster?
Image
Gyeongseong Creature was one of the most highly anticipated Korean series of the year. The show, which stars Park Seo-Joon and Han Seo-Hee in lead roles, has garnered a lot of attention for its horror-thriller-drama plotline and leading couple. Although the overall messaging of the show is quite on the nose, it’s littered with many gripping subplots to keep us entertained. One of them is the story of the courtesan Myeong-Ja. The show is set in 1945, when Japan occupied Korea. Set in the capital city of Gyeongseong, the show follows Tae-Sang, one of the wealthiest men in the city, who is tasked by Police Commissioner Ishikawa to find Myeong-Ja, his concubine. She’s pregnant with his child, and he wants her back alive and well. If Tae-Sang is unable to find her, he loses all his assets, everything that made him the reliable man that everyone in Gyeongseong adores.

Gyeongseong Creature is the latest in the long list of Korean thrillers with monstrous creatures that all look somewhat alike with recycled plotlines that all end with the same philosophical question: “Who is the real monster?” Gyeongseong Creature in many ways feels like South Korea’s answer to Stranger Things. They’re both Netflix shows, so I suppose everyone wins. The show is set in 1945 Gyeongseong, present-day Seoul, and follows Jang Tae-Sang, a rich and popular man, who goes on a dangerous journey when Commissioner Ishikawa demands he find a missing woman for him. Tae-Sang soon gets involved with a young woman named Chae-Ok, who is an expert at searching for missing people, dead or alive. What Is Studio Mappa's Best Anime?
Image
The Japanese anime industry is split between a variety of animation studios, all of which work incredibly hard to produce the best anime any fan could ask for. Some animation studios have been at work nonstop since the 1960s to provide entertainment for all, and other, newer ones have caught up with a handful of outstanding titles to their names. One such studio is Studio Mappa, which has quickly risen as one of the biggest names in the anime industry today.

While Studio Mappa hasn't been involved with legendary anime like the shonen "Big Three" or Dragon Ball, Studio Mappa does have an impressive library of other, equally great anime titles under its belt. Ever since its founding in 2011, Studio Mappa and its staff have been cranking out one smash-hit anime after another, several of which totally define the modern anime landscape, most of all of shonen and seinen anime.

‘Akuma Kun’ Recap & Ending Explained: Was Ichiro Able To Save His Family From Strophaia?
Image
The German folklore of Dr. Faust has inspired a number of classic tales, notably legendary playwright Christopher Marlowe’s tragedy “Doctor Faustus”. The literary piece was a modernized morality play in essence, which played an instrumental role in popularizing the thematic significance of the story—the binary of good and evil instincts and the complexities of human nature showcased through supernatural elements of occultism. Shigeru Mizuki’s iconic manga Akuma Kun revolves around the themes explored in Marlowe’s play and additionally incorporates a narrative that includes elements of the diverse world mythology as well. The anime adaptation of its first volume, which was released in the late 1980s, garnered a massive fan following among children, and a continuation of the series as a part of the 100th birth anniversary celebration of the mangaka has recently been released on Netflix.

The continuation of Akuma Kun turned out to be another...

Something interesting about Japanese kanji is how versatile they are. Just one of them can carry various meanings and can therefore be applied in multiple scenarios. They can become even more versatile when combined with other kanji.
