Quick Links What Happened to Peris in Uglies? Does Peris Return in the Uglies Book Series? Is Peris From Netflixs Uglies Actually Dead?
Books being made into movies is always slightly tricky since there is always a massive fanbase already connected to the novel series, which, understandably so, has high expectations regarding the storyline as well as the characters. Netflix has made the bold move of taking Scott Westerfelds 20-year-old novel series about a controversial topic and bringing it onto the screen. The opinions on the Netflix movie Uglies are split, but the YA adaptation has started a conversation about problematic beauty standards and the increase of cosmetic surgery in the younger generation, which would technically have the potential to make it one of the best movies on Netflix. An underlying issue specifically focused on in the Uglies movie is the use of social media and beauty filters, which feed...

Warning: This article contains spoilers from Netflix's Uglies.
Uglies director McG clarifies why a significant change was made to Peris (Chase Stokes) in the Netflix adaptation. Peris is the best friend of Tally Youngblood (Joey King), and promises they will remain close even after Uglies' transformative surgery that turns him into a Pretty. Unfortunately, in both the novel and in the film adaptation, Peris no longer acts the same after becoming Pretty and does not keep his promise. It is later in the story that the film's version of Peris diverges from the source material, as he is transformed into one of the ruthless and enhanced Specials.
In an interview with Deadline, McG explains why Peris becomes a Special working for the villainous Dr. Cable (Laverne Cox) despite only being a Pretty in the novel. He addresses how this gives Peris more of an arc than he has in...

Spoilers are ahead for the Uglies book trilogy.
In Netflix's Uglies, a rebel faction known as The Smoke possesses a top-secret weapon that could dismantle the system Dr. Cable (Laverne Cox) installed in the dystopian world's main city. Based on the first entry in Scott Westerfeld's YA book trilogy of the same name, Uglies' is set in a future where 16-year-old denizens are forced to undergo government-mandated cosmetic surgery to be transformed from "Uglies" that is, normal people into "Pretties," beautiful-yet-vapid folks who don't seem to care about anything that isn't superficial. As in any dystopian story, there are rebels.
Led by Joey King's Tally Youngblood, an "Ugly" who's about to come of age, Uglies' cast of characters is full of those who choose to live outside the oppressive, image-obsessed city. Tally's new friend, Shay (Brianne Tju), decides to peel away from Dr. Cable's city and live among the rebels,...

Spoiler Alert: This post contains spoilers for the movie Uglies.
Scott Westerfeld’s Uglies has made it to the big screen at long last.
After its publication in 2005, the first novel of four by the author gathered a big readership as a precursor to YA dystopia stories like The Hunger Games, Divergent, The Maze Runner and more. The story follows Tally Youngblood, who lives in a society that values face symmetry over anything else. All citizens within the society receive a mandatory surgical operation that makes them “pretty,” evening out their facial flaws and physiques.
Throughout the books, Tally gets an outside perspective on the operation that she once wanted more than anything else, first from a community of rebels who have escaped various cities to live a simpler life in a community they call The Smoke. The Netflix film, directed by McG and adapted by Jacob Forman, Vanessa Taylor...

It’s difficult where to start with Warner Brothers rebooted feature of Nancy Drew and the Hidden Staircase, directed by Katt Shea. For all intents and purposes, it’s a harmless rendition of a young adult detective story targeted at that specific audience “young adult”. It’s not meant to be consumed by all manners and corners of cinema-goers and to that respect, it’s difficult to fault both the production and the final product of a film that’s the definition of harmless fun. However, that being said there are multiple issues that arise with this feature that was undoubtedly meant to premiere on the Disney Channel Network.

When it comes to name recognition, few American detectives rank as high as Nancy Drew with audiences, owing to the fact that millions devoured the yellow-spined novels, and no small number of celebs (including executive producer Ellen DeGeneres) went on to credit the character with inspiring them at a young age. As a result, it’s no mystery why so many have tried to develop the character into a proper film or TV franchise — including small-screen attempts by CBS, Ncb and the CW in the last few years alone.
In the case of Warner Bros., the studio bought the rights to the character for just $6,000 back in 1937, and has now opted to dust off and remake “Nancy Drew and the Hidden Staircase” from their own library. And so, Nancy’s back, reborn in the form of super-charismatic, red-headed Sophia Lillis as an assertive, red-headed Millennial who embodies the classic character’s best traits — intelligence,...

The first trailer for Nancy Drew and the Hidden Staircase has been released by Ellen DeGeneres' A Very Good Production. Sophia Lillis stars as the titular character this time around from a story based on the 1930 book by Mildred Wirt Benson, who wrote it under the pseudonym Carolyn Keene. The book is from the second volume of Nancy Drew stories and Benson considered it to be her favorite of all the stories that she wrote.
It star Sophia Lillis was announced as the star of Nancy Drew and the Hidden Staircase back in April of 2018. After the announcement, production began in June, which is also when It 2 was filming.
