The new comedy by the Spaniard, a Spanish-Mexican co-production toplined by Miren Ibarguren, Eduardo Casanova and Pol Monen, is currently filming in Mexico. In #Alive, Oh Jun-u wakes up and finds a note from his mom that says his family went on vacation without him. He turns on TV and the news anchor says that an outbreak is spreading nationwide, with the infected showing signs of cannibalism. Suddenly wifi is disconnected and what Jun-u can only hear is his father's message that he must stay alive. The world goes crazy and everything is destroyed by the zombies.

Barcelona – “Who Would You Take to a Desert Island?” is the second directorial outing from Spain’s Jota Linares (“Animales sin collar”) a Netflix Original premiering on Friday, March 22 in competition at the Malaga Spanish Language Film Festival.

Starring María Pedraza, Jaime Lorente, Pol Monen and Andrea Ros, the film is the movie adaptation of a successful play which found remarkable success on Spain’s off-stage circuit.

The director says: “It’s my love-hate letter to my generation; a dramatic comedy about young people facing up to the person they have become. It’s a necessary, yet uncommon generational story in cinema.”

Variety talked to producer Beatriz Bodegas at La Canica Films, about the film, and the significance of Netflix’s presence in Spain.

Jaime Jiménez (Jose Coronado) lives an everyman nightmare: A middle-aged surgeon in Sevilla, he drives numbly through rainy streets, with the backdrop of radio presenters murmuring about unemployment and economic dissatisfaction. Jaime is constantly shut out of his daughter Sara’s life (Asia Ortega). Meanwhile, his wife, Carmen (Ana Wagener) is barely a presence in his life.
