Film by Democracy is a Melbourne-based group co-founded by Monte Macpherson, a writer, producer and director of independent film. The project’s aim is to engage people around the world to vote on every aspect of a proposed 10-part webseries – from genre and location to character profiles, names and plot lines. So far, the genre, sub-genre, underlying theme and language have been established.
On Tuesday 17th April Film the group opened a 3 week window for people to submit a 20-word logline summarizing a basic plot for the webseries (currently called ‘Project A’). They will be put to the vote and the winning logline will inform the direction of ‘Project A’ and future votes. At the end of this lengthy process the results of all polls will be brought together in the production of the series.

A new filmmaking initiative has turned the creative decision making over to the audience.
Film by Democracy, conceived by independent filmmaker Monte Macpherson is calling on the audience to vote on the artistic and plot direction of an as yet untitled web series.
The topic to vote on, as of 1 March through the Film by Democracy website, is the genre of the series.
Once the genre is decided, the online community will also be called upon to vote on the project’s title, direction, plot, characters and more.
MacPherson was a 2008 Tropfest finalist, directing and producing Made in Australia, about two Scottish filmmakers trying to make an “Australian” film to enter in Tropfest.
