John Tomkins is a Film Producer, Visual storyteller and Film Festival Director based in the South West of the UK in Devon.
John has Directed ambitious short films, produced films for other Directors and supported a South West feature film with marketing content. With 2018 Film Beard Envy shown at many film festivals across the world. In 2024 John's Directed feature Documentary "Music Scene Memories at Torquay Town Hall" was a major local hit selling out Big Screen Premieres and featured on the BBC website and local Press.
John works with local and national organisations to help tell their stories through film . With short film campaigns shown online , on the big screen and at national conferences .
John has worked with many museums, British Archaeology and the British Museum on films and photography . These have become part of promotion for major exhibitions and shown as part of permanent museum gallery displays.
John has worked on music video projects with some well known music artists used to promote their albums , international tours and on online platforms such as Billboard, Classic Pop and Spin Magazine. In 2023 John Directed a short Dance film for the Agatha Christie Festival, featuring over 100 dancers and filmed across Torquay's picturesque seafront.
John is passionate about promoting the South West as a film location and instigated the English Riviera Film Festival in 2015 . That has gone on to show 250 films from across the world , given awards to many UK and International Film Producers, hosting many film industry panels and an online show guests from UK and around world ( including Star Trek Director Nicholas Meyer ) . John runs filmmaking workshops and has given lectures to many colleges, societies and groups about making films in the South West.
