Nawazuddin Siddiqui
Nawaz to play tycoon in Black Currency
Nawazuddin Siddiqui
Nawazuddin Siddiqui has been making waves in the film industry ever since his stellar performance in Kahaani and Gangs Of Wasseypur. The maverick actor who has been recently on a film signing spree will now be seen sporting a new look for his role in Sanjay Sharma's Black Currency. The film which seeks to expose the business of counterfeit notes features Nawaz playing a shrewd, manipulative tycoon.

However, unlike the conventional filmi tycoons that are portrayed as the suave, slick and stylish jetsetters, Nawaz will be seen as a petite yet sharp individual. The film which is scripted by Sharma draws inspiration from his own life when he was handed back a fake Rs. 500 note that was being deposited in a bank. Taking a cue from the incident and also integrating other cases of fake notes, Sharma had woven a script that has been three years in the making.

Shankar Mahadevan
Late Sitar Master's Legacy Endures
Shankar Mahadevan
New Delhi -- The walls of Sanjay Sharma's music shop are lined with gleaming string instruments and old photographs of legendary musicians.

Beatles George Harrison, John Lennon and Paul McCartney. Indian classicial musicians Zakir Hussain, Shiv Kumar Sharma and Vishwamohan Bhatt. And the man who brought these two very different musical worlds together: Ravi Shankar.

Like his grandfather and father before him, Sharma built, tuned and repaired instruments for the sitar virtuoso, who introduced Westerners to Indian classical music, and through his friendship with Harrison became a mainstay of the 1960s counterculture scene.

From his tiny shop tucked into the crowded lanes of central Delhi's Bhagat Singh market, Sharma traveled the world with Shankar. Late in the maestro's life, as his health and strength flagged, he even designed a smaller version of the instrument that allowed him to keep playing.

Shankar, who died Tuesday at age 92, was "a saint,...

Sitar became synonymous with Ravi Shankar, his Indian instrument maker says
Ravi Shankar
New Delhi, Dec 12: Sitar became synonymous with Grammy winning composer Ravi Shankar, said his Indian instrument maker Sanjay Sharma, who crafted customized sitars on the former's request.

Ravi Shankar, who helped introduce the sitar to the Western world through his collaborations with The Beatles, died in Southern California on Tuesday. He was 92.

Saddened on hearing of Shankar's death, Sharma said: "He was our God and you can understand how it feels when the God leaves us alone. He is globally famous in the music industry, not even a single person exists who does not know him. The name, which strikes in somebody's mind after looking.

Nawazuddin Siddiqui
It seems like there is no stopping this man called Nawazuddin Siddiqui, who is churning stellar performances one after another! With his recent performance in Talaash also hitting the jackpot, it's no wonder that his bag is full with challenging roles. While on one hand, he has Ketan Mehta's Mountain Man, on the other, he has been signed up for Black Currency. In this film, he will be playing the role of Hassan Ali Khan, the Indian businessman who's alleged to have stashed away billions in Swiss accounts. The film, which is being directed by Sanjay Sharma (Anil Sharma's brother), will have Nawazuddin's character based on the money laundering tycoon. Talking about the role, Nawazuddin said that, unlike his other roles so far, for the first time, he will be seen in expensive Savile Row suits traveling in his private jet, getting off choppers for high level...

Opinion: Homosexuality in Bollywood
Note: The views expressed in this article do not reflect the views of BollySpice.com's staff or owners. They are solely the views of the writer of this opinion piece/blog.

This past Friday saw the release of Sanjay Sharma's attempt at portraying homosexual relationships in a serious fashion with his film Dunno Y Na Jaane Kyun and this has prompted a very strong and emotional thought process within me, one that has been simmering for many years. Homosexuality is taboo in the Indian culture, yet it has been embraced as a subject and main plot line in many Indian films; although this is something we must celebrate, we must also sit back and look at the way in which this subject is being portrayed and the consequences it may have. Since the early 2000's we are seeing more prominent homosexual characters and subjects enter Indian cinema. There have...
