Dakota Fanning said ‘yes’ to ‘The Perfect Couple’ the moment she heard Nicole Kidman was involved, without knowing anything else about the show
Image
Dakota Fanning laughs while recalling her spontaneous decision to join Netflix's suspense drama The Perfect Couple. "The first thing they said was, 'You're Nicole [Kidman]'s daughter-in-law, you're pregnant, and you're the murderer,' and I was like, 'Yes!'"

The Emmy-nominated actor tells Gold Derby, "I was introduced to the project through Susanne Bier, who I had worked with before and became very close to. She called me, and told me a bit about the character. I don't even think she told me the title of the show or the book that it was based on. She said Nicole Kidman was involved, and I said yes. That was my introduction to it, and then, of course, I read the scripts and found out who was playing all the other parts, and as the cast was coming together I got more and more excited, but Susanne and Nicole were the two biggest draws for me.

New Universal Monsters Film Finds Redemption on Streaming After Disastrous Box Office Run
Image
Universal Pictures owns the rights to a series of iconic horror characters from different classic novels, including Frankenstein's Monster, The Mummy, Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, The Invisible Man, Count Dracula, and others. The latest Universal Monsters project was Wolf Man, which premiered in early 2025. The horror film had a lot of potential, as the studio was still basking in the success of 2020's The Invisible Man, and had hired the same director, Leigh Whannell, for the project. Although Wolf Man didn't live up to expectations, both critically and commercially, it has become a hit on Peacock following its recent release on streaming, per FlixPatrol.

Wolf Man debuted on Peacock on April 18 after its release in theaters on Jan. 17. It didn't take long for the horror film to claw its way to the...

Universal Pictures owns the rights to some of the most iconic villains, which the studio named the "Universal Monsters." However, it has yet to find its rhythm with the recent adaptations.

Blumhouse has just announced that Lee Cronin’s (Evil Dead Rise) upcoming reimagining of the classic 1932 Universal production has begun filming, with Jack Reynor (Midsommar) confirmed as one of the leads. Alongside Blumhouse, the film is also being produced by Cronin’s own Doppelgängers banner. James Wan, Jason Blum, and John Keville are set to serve as the producers.

Lee Cronin's 'The Mummy' Reboot Casts 'Transformers' Actor Jack Reynor
Image
The newest Mummy film has recruited one of the stars from the Transformers franchise as its new lead, but it doesn't sound like he will be the titular Monster. In December 2024, shortly before the release of Nosferatu and Wolf Man, it was announced that Evil Dead Rise director Lee Cronin was set to make TheMummy reboot for the newly combined Blumhouse and Atomic Monster. However, Cronin's take on the character would not be an official Universal Monster: instead, a version was created for New Line Cinema, the same studio behind Evil Dead Rise.

Deadline now reports that Jack Reynor has been cast in the lead role for The Mummy. The Deadline story states that Reynor is not expected to wear the mummy bandages, implying he will be the human protagonist that the Mummy terrorizes. The actor is best known for his roles in 2014's Transformers: Age of Extinction and the...

Jack Reynor to Face Off Against ‘The Mummy’ for New Line Cinema
Image
Jacy Reynor is set to go toe-to-toe with the walking undead, as he has landed the lead in New Line Cinema’s “The Mummy,” from “Evil Dead Rise” director Lee Cronin and Atomic Monster and Blumhouse.

Production begins next week in Ireland, ahead of its April 17, 2026 release date. Plot details are being kept secret, although Reynor is reportedly a husband and father who goes up against the titular creep.

This will be the third modernized monster movie that producer Jason Blum and Blumhouse has tackled, after making “The Invisible Man” and “Wolf Man,” both directed by Leigh Whannell, for Universal Pictures, the studio most closely associated with the classic monsters.

The last time Universal unwrapped “The Mummy” it was for a big-screen action blockbuster in 2017 starring Tom Cruise. Before that there were a trilogy of films starring Brendan Fraser, which concluded in 2008.

Atomic Monster and Blumhouse are co-financing “The Mummy,...

Blumhouse's The Mummy Remake Scares Up Transformers Star for Lead Role
Image
New Line Cinema's The Mummy remake has begun casting. The first actor to join the upcoming horror movie is Transformers franchise alum Jack Reynor.

Per The Hollywood Reporter, Reynor is playing "a husband and father who runs afoul of supernaturally sinister forces." The actor is best known for starring opposite Mark Wahlberg in the fourth Transformers movie, 2014's Age of Extinction. His other film credits include Sing Street (2016), Mowgli: Legend of the Jungle (2018), Midsommar (2019), and Flora and Son (2023). In recent years, he's appeared more frequently on the small screen, with leading roles in CBS All Access' historical drama series Strange Angel, Prime Video's sci-fi series The Peripheral, and Netflix's crime miniseries The Perfect Couple.

First announced in December 2024, the new Mummy movie hails from Evil Dead Rise filmmaker Lee Cronin, who is set to direct the monster movie from his own screenplay. Atomic Monster, Blumhouse, and Doppelgängers are producing the feature,...

Lee Cronin’s ‘The Mummy’ Casts Jack Reynor in Main Role
Image
Mummies have often been an inspiration for horror filmmakers and we have seen numerous films, both live-action and animated, where a revived mummy is a major villain in the movie. Some of these films were more, others were less successful, but the trope is nevertheless popular.

In light of that, you probably know that 2026 will see a new mummy-centered movie, titled The Mummy, which will be directed by Lee Cronin, known for his contributions to the Evil Dead franchise. And while the movie is still a big enigma, the main actor has just been confirmed.

Lee Cronin’s ‘The Mummy’ Summons Up a ‘Midsommar’ Star to Lead
Image
The Mummyjust got one step closer to becoming a reality. Jack Reynorhas been cast in the upcoming project produced by Atomic Monster, Blumhouse and New Line. It's relevant to point out that Reynor has not been cast as the titular monster, with details surrounding his character being a mystery, for the moment. The studios have been very careful when it comes to crafting this new iteration of the classic big screen creature. Not much is known about the premise of The Mummy, other than the fact that the title will be making its way to cinemas on April 17, 2026.

Before he was cast in The Mummy, Jack Reynor stole the spotlight in The Perfect Couple. The Netflix series allowed the actor to portray Thomas Winbury, a character closely connected to the wedding that took place at the center of the project's premise. The Perfect Couple was originally intended to be a...

Last June, it was announced that Evil Dead Rise director Lee Cronin had signed on to write and direct a new genre project for Atomic Monster, Blumhouse Productions, and New Line Cinema… and in December, we found out what that mysterious project is, as it was revealed that Cronin has come up with a new take on the concept of The Mummy! Cronin confirmed, “This will be unlike any Mummy movie you ever laid eyeballs on before. The Twilight Zone is one of the most brilliant and trippy series ever made. Created by Rod Serling, the CBS series is a virtual and psychologically thrilling trip into the unknown. The Twilight Zone premiered over six decades ago, and it still holds up very well as far as the stories and the visual experience go. Maybe that’s why the Jordan Peele reboot failed: it couldn’t capture the same magic as the Serling series did. So, if you loved the trippy stories, inventive settings, and compelling characters in The Twilight Zone, here are some similar shows you should check out next.

Welcome, Fools: The Creepiest Cult Compounds In Horror

As the old adage goes: if something seems too good to be true, it probably is. Real utopias don’t exist and there’s no such thing as perfection and bliss. While admittedly nihilistic, this sentiment also protects us from hidden dangers lurking all around. When we wander into an ostensibly flawless environment, it helps to take a peek behind the curtains and examine the truth behind artful set dressing.

Mark Anthony Green’s harrowing film Opus begins with just such a gift as music journalist Ariel Ecton (Ayo Edebiri) receives a luxurious gift basket from world-famous pop star Alfred Moretti (John Malkovich). Doubling as a high-end Swag Bag, this opulent basket also includes a copy of Moretti’s highly anticipated new EP and a coveted invitation to an early premier. She and five industry veterans will be taken on an exclusive retreat to the singer’s private residence where...

‘The Perfect Couple’ Season 2 in Development at Netflix Based on Elin Hilderbrand’s ‘Swan Song’
Image
Netflix is in the process of developing a second season of “The Perfect Couple,” according to media reports.

After the first season of “The Perfect Couple” adapted Elin Hilderbrand’s novel of the same name, the second installment would be based on Hilderbrand’s “Swan Song,” which is also set in Nantucket. Season 2 is in development at Netflix, and, if greenlit, would shift “The Perfect Couple” from a limited series to an anthology series.

The new season would welcome aboard a new showrunner in Joanna Calo, who’s best known for co-showrunning and executive producing FX’s “The Bear.” Susanne Bier and Nicole Kidman, who starred in the first season, will return as EPs alongside Gail Berman, Shawn Levy, Hend Baghdady and Per Saari.

Netflix declined to comment on this story.

Kidman starred in “The Perfect Couple” as Greer Winbury, the matriarch of the wealthy Winbury family who guards the...

Netflix Renews Limited Series The Perfect Couple for Season 2, Turns It Into an Anthology
Image
The murder mystery drama series The Perfect Couple was a hit on Netflix when it premiered on Sept 5, 2024. Although it was originally supposed to be a limited series, the streamer has officially announced its future.

Per Deadline, The Perfect Couple has been renewed for Season 2. However, as the series has already solved the mystery at the end of Season 1, things will be different in the future. Instead of following the same characters, Season 2 will become an anthology while continuing to adapt Elin Hilderbrand's novels, this time, the 2024 novel Swan Song.

Elin Hilderbrand often writes novels set on or around Nantucket, where she lives. The Perfect Couple Season 1 followed the action of the 2018 eponymous novel, part of the Nantucket series. However, while the series as a whole creates a bigger universe where many characters are mentioned in different stories and provide further details about the characters, they can be enjoyed as standalones.

‘Perfect Couple’ Season 2 in the Works at Netflix Based on Elin Hilderbrand Novel ‘Swan Song’
Image
“The Perfect Couple” could be back for Season 2 — with a new story and a new cast.

Variety has learned from sources that Netflix is developing a second season of the popular series based on the Elin Hilderbrand novel “Swan Song.” Given that book features an entirely different story and characters than “The Perfect Couple,” also based on a Hilderbrand novel, the idea is to go the anthology route with the series.

Joanna Calo is attached to write, executive produce and showrun the new season, which has not been formally greenlit at this time. Season 1 star Nicole Kidman will executive produce for Blossom Films along with Per Saari, with Gail Berman, Shawn Levy, Susanne Bier, and Hend Baghdady also executive producing.

Reps for Netflix declined to comment.

Like “The Perfect Couple,” “Swan Song” takes place in Nantucket. But rather than the Winburys, the book focuses on the mysterious Richardson family. Per...
