"American Idol" kicks off by reminding us (in all caps with very serious music) that next week we all start voting - for the five of us still awake, since it seems like the pre-live shows portion of the show has been longer than ever before.

42 contestants become 24 this week, guys. And it will take two hours tonight and an hour tomorrow. If only they could spice things up, by making each pair facing off duke it out in a thunderdome with paintball guns or a hot dog eating contest or something.

The final 42 get one more performance before they are sent packing, and we sort of get to see them. Since she left "The Hills" in 2009, Lauren Conrad seemed to welcome her time away from the spotlight. But in a surprise move last week, she announced plans to return to MTV in a new docu-series about launching her latest fashion line. So what brought about Lc's change of heart?

Although the reality starlet had popped up as a guest judge on "America's Next Top Model" and made one last appearance on the "Hills" finale aftershow in July, she was in no hurry to begin documenting her life again for public consumption. Instead, she focused on other projects, including a clothing line with Kohl's called Lc Lauren Conrad and two novels, "L.A. Candy" and "Sweet little Lies.

Lauren Conrad squeezed in some NYC shopping yesterday between stopping by Gma - where she stayed cryptic about Heidi's plastic surgery - and The Tyra Banks Show. She finished off her day of promotion of Sweet Little Lies with a book signing at a Barnes & Nobles in the city. She's also on the March cover of Seventeen, opening up about her former life on The Hills, dating dos and don'ts as well as some of her favorite fashion tips. Last weekend's Equality March in Washington D.C. got me to thinking about how far we have — and haven't — come in the fight for gay equality. But since AfterElton.com focuses on pop culture, I'm going to look at things through that lens and leave the political analysis for Pam's House Blend, Americablog, Bilerico and the other assorted gay political websites that cover the topic.

One of the very first times American television addressed the subject of gay men (bisexuality was almost never addressed) was way back in 1954 when the L.A. based tabloid talk show Confidential File presented "Homosexuals and the Problems They Present." Hmm, I'm guessing it wasn't terribly flattering unless it was about how boring straight people looked in comparison to us 'mos.

San Francisco's public TV station did the first ever documentary, The Rejected in 1961 and it wasn't until 1967 that a television show first featured a gay storyline.

Newlywed Alyssa Milano has taken to her Twitter to slam reports that she's expecting a baby with hubby David Bugliari.

"Rumors that I am pregnant are still false and still annoying," Milano tweets. "Please, please, please, refrain from Rt'ing such rumors."

Milano and her talent agent hubby tied the knot last month.

Chicago – The CW has announced their fall premiere dates and the season kicks off with two of the most anticipated premieres, the return of the second season of “90210” and the premiere of “Melrose Place,” both on Tuesday, September 8th. Including “Melrose,” the network has three new programs for fall 2009 (the other two are “The Beautiful Life” and “The Vampire Diaries”).

The night after “90210” and “Melrose Place,” Tyra Banks returns on Wednesday, September 9th for a two-hour premiere of “America’s Next Top Model”. A week later, “Antm” goes down to normal size and “The Beautiful Life” with Mischa Barton” premieres in the 8pm Cst timeslot.

Just so there's no confusion, 5 feet 7 inches isn't short for a woman. Nor is it short for a season of America's Next Top Model. If the big turnout—and by "big," we mean frighteningly big drama—for if the auditions were any indication, Tyra Banks' troop of lovelies-in-training should be no less tall on talent than previous seasons. In order to keep things fresh, "America's Next Top Model" is tapping two young celebrities as guest judges. Lauren Conrad and Kim Kardashian will come to the modeling competition in separate episodes when the show debuts the 13th cycle this Fall.

Lauren's appearance is scheduled for the second episode on September 16, while Kim's is put on the October 21 slot. These stars will sit on the judging panel, joining host Tyra Banks, photographer Nigel Barker and runway coach Miss Jay. Missing from the line-up is Paulina Porizkova who was let go as judge by producers in May to cut the budget.

The 13th cycle is premiering September 9. This time around, the show is lining a group of petite models who are 5'7" and under. "There have been top supermodels in the past that weren't as tall as the industry demands, like fashion icon Kate Moss," said Tyra in the press release.

America's Next Top Model is getting a little fiercer this year with reality fashionistas Kim Kardashian and Lauren Conrad set to appear in cycle 13 as celebrity judges. Are they joining full-time to replace departed supermodel judge Paulina Porizkova? Here's what we're hearing... Per the CW, Kim and Lauren will be doing one episode each. The CW Network unveiled the schedule for its 2009-2010 season today at a presentation for advertisers, affiliates and national media in the Theater at Madison Square Garden. The announcement was made by Dawn Ostroff, President of Entertainment, The CW.

Although Ari Folman's "Waltz With Bashir" did not make the shortlist of 15 films under consideration for the best documentary Oscar, it is among the nominees for the DGA's doc award, announced Friday.

America's Next Top Model contestant Bianca Golden is speaking out for the first time about the Caribbean airport brawl, saying both Hairspray star Nickki Blonsky and her father attacked Golden's mother.
