Alexandre Moratto
Born in 1988, Alexandre Moratto is often cited as one of the most significant new voices of Brazilian Cinema. His debut feature film 'Socrates' (2018), made on a budget of $20,000 with a cast and crew of teenagers from São Paulo's low-income communities, achieved international critical acclaim and won him the 'Someone to Watch' Independent Spirit Award. It was produced by directors Ramin Bahrani ('The White Tiger') and Fernando Meirelles ('City of God'), who also produced his sophomore feature film '7 Prisoners' (2021), a Netflix Original, which premiered at the Venice Film Festival to critical acclaim and debuted in the top 10 worldwide on Netflix. He is a Guggenheim Fellow, an SFFILM Rainin Fellow, a Film Independent Fellow, a Gotham Fellow, and a Cine Qua Non Fellow.
