‘The Pursuit Of Love’: Producers Plan Three Seasons Of BBC/Amazon’s Sofia Coppola-Inspired Period Romp — Mipcom
Image
The Pursuit Of Love executive producer Charles Collier has revealed that his production outfit Open Book and Moonage Pictures are planning to make three seasons of the buzzy Lily James period drama.

The adaptation of Nancy Mitford’s classic novel is a co-production between the BBC and Amazon, and Collier told a Mipcom Online+ event on Monday that his aim is also to bring the author’s two sequel books to the screen.

“It’s part of a trilogy of books. We hope to bring the books to life in future seasons, so The Pursuit Of Love Season 2 would be called Love In A Cold Climate based on a brilliant book by Nancy. The third book would become our third season, Don’t Tell Alfred,” he explained.

The Emily Mortimer-penned and -directed project follows James as free-spirited aristocrat Linda, who falls in love, first with a stuffy Tory politician,...

A Dog Saves The Day In “Patrick”
Dog movies almost always want to make you cry. The ones that just want to make you smile are few and far between. That’s usually the case with pet centric flicks, which is good for emotion, but sometimes rough for animal lovers like yours truly. It’s nice on occasion to not go into a film with a canine companion and have to fret about an impending death. Luckily, one look at Patrick, the new dog centric comedy, and your heart will melt without ever reducing you to tears. It’s far from perfect, but it’s more than cute enough to be worthy of a recommendation. The movie is a comedy about how a dog ends up leading a young woman to happiness. At the beginning, Sarah Francis (Beattie Edmondson) has a life that could charitably be called an absolute mess. After the death of her grandmother, for...

Film Review: ‘Patrick’
There’s no denying that “Patrick” is absolutely adorable. When a story revolves around a four-legged furry friend — a squishy, huggable pug, at that — that much is to be expected. However, what makes director Mandie Fletcher’s canine-centered romantic comedy work is its ability to engage in between the oh-so-cute closeups of the bug-eyed pup. Though the narrative tends to be a touch too simplistic for most grown-ups, and lacks enough riotous dog action for the little ones, there’s enough bite to make things worthwhile for those who just want to enjoy a sweet, wholesome dog movie.

Sarah’s (Beattie Edmondson) life is in shambles. Her boyfriend has just left her stranded in a new apartment without knowing a soul in the neighborhood. Her entire family thinks she’s turning into a spinster since all her romantic relationships end in woe. She’s depressed and questioning what love has in store for her.

"What was granny thinking? I don't like dogs!" Screen Media has released an official Us trailer for an indie comedy titled Patrick, about a spoiled pug named Patrick who gets bequeathed to a young woman who is having some romantic troubles in her British life. As expected, the goofball pup provides some good laughs and plenty of pain, but he also helps her get back on track - with falling in love. This already opened in the UK last year, and we featured the UK trailer previously. Beattie Edmondson stars as Sarah, and the cast includes Ed Skrein, Emilia Jones, Jennifer Saunders, Meera Syal, Gemma Jones, Emily Atack, and Peter Davison. This looks super cute and kitschy, and perhaps just the perfect amount of campiness. Here's the new official Us trailer (+ poster) for Mandie Fletcher's Patrick, in high def on Apple: You can still watch the original UK...

Bo Report: Nicole Kidman, Russell Crowe fans embrace ‘Boy Erased’
‘Boy Erased.’

Given the challenging subject, Joel Edgerton’s gay conversion therapy drama Boy Erased opened very respectably in Australia last weekend, its first international market after platforming in the Us.

In part that speaks to the star power of Nicole Kidman and Russell Crowe as well as Lucas Hedges’ impressive turn as the teenage protagonist and Edgerton’s direction, screenplay and supporting role.

Fox’s Bohemian Rhapsody and Warner Bros’ A Star is Born continued to dominate ticket sales as Sony’s sequel to the The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo flopped.

Hindi action-adventure Thugs of Hindostan drew plenty of Bollywood fans while They Shall Not Grow Old, Peter Jackson’s artful mix of restored WW1 footage owned by the Imperial War Museum and BBC audio generated an impressive $178,000 from limited sessions on Sunday.

"Don't give up on him too easily. He's quite a cute little fellow, isn't he?" A new official trailer has debuted for a fun indie comedy titled Patrick, about a spoiled pug named Patrick who gets bequeathed to a young woman who is having some typical troubles in her life. Patrick review – a dog’s dinner
A schoolteacher inherits her grandmother’s predictably life-changing pug in this lame comedy

Full disclosure: pugs creep me out a bit. Those demented, glandular-looking faces; the fact they always sound like they are one steep staircase away from complete organ failure. And while the eponymous star of this film is a fairly robust example of the breed, with eyeballs that appear to be securely wedged into its skull, there’s a frisson of anxiety whenever he’s on screen that undermines any attempts at comedy. There are other problems of course, not least a designer dog of a screenplay, which crosses Marley & Me with Bridget Jones, but leans heavily on gags involving people treading in stuff.

Beattie Edmondson stars as Sarah, a kooky, klutzy schoolteacher who is a running joke in her family. The chaos of her life ramps up a notch when her late grandmother bequeaths her Patrick the pug.

Exclusive: Beattie Edmondson, Mandie Fletcher (and Harley the pug) on Disney’s new film Patrick
To celebrate the release of Disney’s new film Patrick, we had the pleasure of meeting the leading star himself, the pug Harley. Naturally, he didn’t say an awful lot, but thankfully he was sat next to the film’s real lead, Beattie Edmondson. We spoke about everything pug with the actress as well as the film’s director Mandie Fletcher.

Edmondson – who is the daughter of British comedy legends Jennifer Saunders and Ade Edmondson – discusses her initial connection with Harley, and what it was like collaborating with a pug. She also told us whether the pair have stayed in touch, and what it is that makes dogs such special companions.

Fletcher also spoke about the challenges of directing a pug, and what a joy it was to have Edmondson on board, and why she felt compelled to convince Disney to take a chance on this talented newcomer. The director,...

Patrick review – puppy romcom leaves Beattie Edmondson to scoop up mess
Tom Bennett and Jennifer Saunders lend their skills to a film that has no shortage of talent but is low on good gags

Beattie Edmondson is the tremendous comic performer who made her name in the BBC’s excellent flatshare sitcom Josh, with Josh Widdicombe and Elis James; now, after some walk-on film parts in Bridget Jones’s Baby and Absolutely Fabulous: The Movie, she gets a quirky starring role in this sentimental and worryingly gag-free romantic comedy. She is Sarah, a klutzy singleton hopeless with relationships and everything else, who inherits an adorable pug called Patrick from her late grandmother.

At first she loathes the dog but then grasps that by taking Patrick for walks in the park she gets to meet men, including a hunky vet (Ed Skrein) and a sensitive bloke (Tom Bennett). There’s a cameo for Edmondson’s mum, Jennifer Saunders. An awful lot depends...

Josh Widdicombe's new BBC Three sitcom is given a full series
Josh Widdicombe's BBC sitcom pilot proved funny enough to be granted a full series.

The popular stand-up comic will lead the cast of Josh, following a successful Comedy Feed pilot online in 2014. The six-part series will air on BBC Three in November.

Co-written by Widdicombe and Tom Craine, it will be directed by frequent Steve Coogan collaborator David Schneider, and also stars Beattie Edmondson, Ellis James and Jack Dee.

Centred around grumpy and single Josh and his two flatmates Kate and Owen, his life is plagued with crappy situations such as a rubbish pool party and being played by his high school crush.

Jack Dee plays their bizarre landlord who inserts himself into their lives as much as possible, whether they want him there or not.

There will also be a host of celebrity cameos throughout the series, including Jennifer Saunders, Romesh Ranganathan, James Acaster and... The Chuckle Brothers!

Morning Brew - Mon. April 29: Portia de Rossi on why she looks good at 40, a "glam lesbian plumber" on "The Wright Way"
Tags: Morning BrewRachel MaddowIMDbÁngeles ÁlvarezThe Wright WayCarrie BrownsteinAnnie ClarkNeNe LeakesTig NotaroJessica Kirson

Good morning!

Spain's openly lesbian politician Ángeles Álvarez is encouraging closeted women to come out. She's like "Look, guys, I did it and I survived!"

I never thought I'd read these words; "She plays a glam lesbian plumber." Apparently that is true of Joanne Matthews in the new BBC sitcom The Wright Way. The actress told The Daily Star:

Susan moves in her lesbian girlfriend, which riles [her dad]. He is very Ocd about everything.

Her Gf, played by Jennifer Saunders’ daughter Beattie Edmondson, has a fake Jamaican accent "as her character wants to be a DJ." This show sounds terrible or amazing.

If NeNe Leakes were gay, I feel like she'd be out about it, considering she's on two of the gayest TV shows on air. But Real Housewives lesbian rumors just keep on happening.

At the White House Correspondents' Dinner over the weekend,...
