WarnerMedia, the entertainment giant that oversees one of Hollywood's most prolific film corporations and a host of companies in other media, has been forced to let go of hundreds of staffers amid the global lockdown crisis. One of the worst-hit companies under the WarnerMedia conglomerate is comic book powerhouse DC, according to a new report.
While Jim Lee remains the Cco at DC, sources indicate that as much as one-third of DC's editorial ranks have been handed pink slips, including editor-in-chief Bob Harris, senior VP of publishing strategy and support services Hank Kanalz, VP of marketing and creative services Jonah Weiland, VP global publishing initiatives and digital strategy Bobbie Chase, senior story editor Brian Cunningham, and executive editor Mark Doyle.
It is also being said that the layoffs have sounded the death knell for the newly launched DC Universe streaming service, and WarnerMedia has shifted its focus to HBO Max instead.

WarnerMedia laid off hundreds of workers on Monday, and one of the hardest hit divisions was DC Comics, the intellectual property foundation that much of the company’s other success was based on.
According to multiple published reports at The Hollywood Reporter, The Beat, ComicBook.com and others, Editor-in-Chief Bob Harras, Executive Editor Mark Doyle, Vice President of Global Publishing Initiatives Bobbie Chase, and Senior Story Editor Brian Cunningham were among those who lost their jobs. Doyle oversaw the successful rollout of DC’s Black Label publishing initiative, and Chase headed up DC’s extremely successful young adult graphic novel line, in case you were wondering if there was any rhyme or reason to the layoffs. Jim Lee, who until very recently held the title of publisher, will continue in his duties as Chief Creative Officer.

Warner Bros.’ DC Entertainment was one of the divisions hard hit by the companywide layoffs today.
The high-profile DC departures include Bob Harras, DC Editor-In-Chief; Hank Kanalz, SVP Publishing Strategy & Support Services; Bobbie Chase, VP, Global Publishing Initiatives & Digital Strategy; Brian Cunningham, senior story editor Deadline has confirmed. Warner Bros. is not commenting. Jim Lee remains DC Chief Creative Officer.
Also impacted is Warner Bros.’ DC Universe. Once a high-flying unit that was designed to usher Warner Bros. into the streaming world, the digital platform’s original slate has been dwindling since WarnerMedia announced the launch of HBO Max following the acquisition by AT&T. As a result, DC Universe has been focusing on its core business of DC comic book and news content for fans. The DC Comics layoffs also impacted DC Universe in its evolved function as a fandom destination.

In 2017, we're getting both the first ever Justice League movie from DC Films and Warner Bros., as well as a brand-new Power Rangers movie reboot from Lionsgate and Saban. While these two teams of superheroes won't be meeting on the big screen anytime soon, they will team-up in a brand new comic book, also arriving in 2017. And it sounds pretty amazing.
The series is titled Justice League/Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers, and it's coming from DC Comics. The first issue will arrive on newsstands and in comic book stores nationwide January 2017. The crossover title is a miniseries that runs six-issues. And it will of course feature all of the characters you know and love from both properties, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
January is actually a pretty busy month for Justice League. The World's Greatest Heroes will have to battle the Suicide Squad in the second half of that crossover comic.
