Jeff Margolis, the award-winning TV producer and director of the Oscars, Emmys, Screen Actors Guild Awards and the American Music Awards, has died. He was 78.

Margolis’ family shared that he died Friday morning in Nashville. No cause of death was given.

“Jeff Margolis created some of the most unforgettable moments in awards show history, and we are grateful that the Screen Actors Guild Awards was among them. For over 16 years, Jeff helped shape the telecast into a celebration worthy of the actors it honors. We are profoundly grateful for his contributions and will miss him dearly,” the SAG Awards Committee, made up of JoBeth Williams, Daryl Anderson, Jason George, Elizabeth McLaughlin and Woody Schultz, said in a statement on Friday.

Born in Los Angeles on Oct. 14, 1946, Margolis began his career from the ground up, as he started out holding cue cards for his uncle Monty Hall on Let’s Make a Deal.

It’s the actors’ turn to speak. The 2025 Screen Actors Guild Award got underway on Sunday night, with the Hollywood guild members awarding what they feel where the best performances and ensembles of the year across film and television.

Nominees include Cynthia Erivo, Ariana Grande, Pamela Anderson, Daniel Craig, Colman Domingo, Timothée Chalamet, Zoe Saldaña, Jamie Lee Curtis, Jonathan Bailey, Edward Norton, Keri Russell, Gary Oldman, Quinta Brunson, Adam Brody, Harrison Ford, Lily Gladstone, Colin Farrell and many more.

The SAG Awards won’t be holding a live-in person announcement of the 31st nominations tomorrow, Wednesday, Jan. 8, as Los Angeles grips with a 3,000 acre burning wildfire.

“In an abundance of caution for the safety of our presenters, guests, and staff, the live in-person 31st Annual SAG Awards nominations announcement has been cancelled due to the wildfires and adverse wind conditions in Los Angeles,” read a statement sent late tonight from SAG Awards organizers.

“Nominees will be unveiled tomorrow at 7:30am Pt via press release and the SAG Awards website. We look forward to celebrating these incredible actors and their work at the SAG Awards ceremony on February 23. In the meantime, we urge everyone to stay safe, and thank you for your continued support.”

The announcements will unfold on Netflix’s YouTube channel exclusively. First will come the nominations for Outstanding Action Performances in a Stunt Ensemble by SAG Awards Committee members Jason George and Elizabeth McLaughlin. Fran Drescher will kick off the list.

The 31st Annual SAG Awards will stream live globally on Netflix Sunday, Feb. 23, 2025 at 8 p.m. Et / 5 p.m. Pt from the Shrine Auditorium & Expo Hall. Actress and activist Jane Fonda will be presented with the Life Achievement Award, SAG-AFTRA’s highest honor, this year. The Screen Actors Guild has named its executive producers to lead the creative team for the group’s upcoming 30th awards ceremony, which will stream live on Netflix for the first time.

Baz Halpin, Mark Bracco and Linda Gierahn of Silent House Productions, the film, streaming and television production division of Silent House Group, are partnering to serve as executive producers alongside Jon Brockett, SAG-AFTRA executive producer, and liaison to the SAG-AFTRA Foundation. This marks Brockett’s third consecutive year working on the annual acting celebration. The 29th annual Screen Actors Guild Awards have concluded, and some of film and television's biggest stars finally got their due. The Screen Actors Guild Awards officially unveiled the 2023 nominees. “Everything Everywhere All at Once” and “The Banshees of Inisherin” lead the film field with five nominations each, including Ensemble Cast. “The Fabelmans” notched two, with Michelle Williams shut out of the Actress race, while “Babylon” and “Women Talking” each had to settle for a lone Ensemble Cast nomination.

The nominations were announced January 11 by “The White Lotus” Season 2 star Haley Lu Richardson and “Emily in Paris” breakout Ashley Park via SAG’s Instagram page. SAG-AFTRA president Fran Drescher and SAG Awards committee members Jason George and Elizabeth McLaughlin kicked off the virtual announcement.

The 29th annual SAG Awards will take place February 26 at the Fairmont Century Plaza in Los Angeles.

This marks the third year that SAG Awards nominations were presented exclusively via Instagram Live. The SAG Awards annually celebrate outstanding motion picture and television performances from the previous calendar year.

The SAG Awards are going streaming, courtesy of Netflix. The 2023 Screen Actors Guild Awards will stream live on Netflix’s YouTube channel; the 2024 show will stream live on Netflix itself.

Netflix is just starting to dip a toe into the live-streaming waters. Its first-ever live event will be a Chris Rock comedy special on March 4. Put simply, Netflix the service is not ready to live-stream this February’s SAG Awards — but YouTube is. Netflix proper plans to be up to speed by next year’s Screen Actors Guild ceremony.

Jon Brockett has been tapped to serve as executive producer of the Screen Actors Guild Awards this year, joining returning EP Kathy Connell at the helm. Brockett had previously served as a producer on the show, and has been a part of the SAG Awards since its fifth show, while Connell has been with the ceremony since it began in 1995.

Brockett and Connell are a part of this year’s production team, which the SAG Awards announced on Thursday. Not returning are Hazy Mills Productions’ Sean Hayes and Todd Milliner, who served as EPs with Connell of the in-person 2019 and 2020 events, as well as last year’s pre-taped virtual special.

For 2022, as previously reported, the SAG Awards are shaking things up by moving venues, to Santa Monica’s Barker Hangar. There’s still no word yet on whether there will be a host for the show, which will air on Feb.

The SAG Awards will once again head to Instagram to announce its nominations. Rosario Dawson (“Dopesick”) and Vanessa Hudgens are set to announce the nominees for the 28th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards on Wednesday, January 12 via the kudocast’s Instagram Live account (@sagawards).

The announcement will start off with an introduction by SAG-AFTRA president Fran Drescher at 9:50 a.m. Et via the SAG Awards’ Instagram Stories function. The Child Performer Protection Act, which became law nearly six years ago, requires most professionals who work with child actors – including publicists, managers, and acting coaches – to obtain a permit, pass an FBI background check, and register with a California state database to screen out pedophiles.
