‘Madfabulous,’ the British indie feature from actor, writer and director Celyn Jones, has secured global sales representation from Upgrade and the Gersh Agency.
The film — described as an “alternative period drama” and inspired by the life of the fifth Marquess of Anglesey — was recently chosen by the British Council and BFI for their 2025 crop of Great 8 projects showcased in Cannes.
Upgrade’s Jonathan Kier and Matt Brodlie will oversee international sales and serve as executive producers. Jay Cohen will handle the U.S. rights on behalf of Gersh.
“Madfabulous is the kind of wildly original, emotionally rich story that global audiences are craving right now,” said Kier. “We’re thrilled to champion such a bold and beautiful film on the international stage.”
Added Cohen: “With its humour, heart, and sense of irreverence, Madfabulous is a rare gem. It’s a film brimming with personality and anchored by exceptional performances.

The MGM+ survival thriller Nine Bodies in a Mexican Morgue makes a pretty bold statement. By the title alone, viewers know most of the show's characters won't make it to the end. What does that mean to the actors playing the survivors of a plane crash? And did any of them know the identity of the murderer?
In an interview with Cbr, stars Siobhàn McSweeney (who plays Lisa) and Ólafur Darri Ólafsson (who portrays Lisa's husband Travis) spoke about what drew them to the miniseries from Alex Rider creator Anthony Horowitz. They spoke about the show's very unique filming experience and how it helped them. Plus, how much of a departure is this from their past roles in other hits like Derry Girls and Severance?
Cbr: What was it about Nine Bodies in a Mexican Morgue that initially excited you about the miniseries?
Ólafur Darri Ólafsson: First of all, the name.

Eric McCormack must find an unseen killer from among nine plane crash survivors in the Mexican jungle as, one by one, they face getting killed off in the official trailer for MGM+’s Nine Bodies in a Mexican Morgue.
“Let’s all assume the worst of each other, because that’s helpful,” McCormack’s character, Kevin, says sarcastically at one point in the trailer as he and his fellow passengers realize someone wants them all dead.
The MGM+ mystery series, to debut March 2, uses Agatha Christie’s Ten Little Indians trope where 10 strangers gather and start getting killed one by one by a killer who is assumed to be among them.
As the storyline for Nine Bodies in a Mexican Morgue unfolds in flashbacks, the plane crash survivors race to solve the deadly mystery before they, too, fall victim to the unseen killer. And Mexican soldiers who discovered the plane...

Every week there are large numbers of indie and specialty releases vying for attention. It’s impossible to do them all, so when the option of reviewing Nowhere Special was placed in front of me I resisted at first after discovering it actually premiered at the 2020 Venice Film Festival. Finally caving in to the persistent requests by the distributor and its passionate PR team, I decided to check it out.
What I discovered was not that this was some sort of troubled film, not even close. Instead I found a spare but moving drama, powered by a remarkable lead performance, that is all about life and death and all things in between. At its heart it is also an...
