‘Very Important People’s Vic Michaelis On Their Host Persona & Some Truly Wild Characters: “Tommy Shriggly Really Came In And Hit Me Like A Wrecking Ball”
Image
Very Important People has seen host Vic Michaelis interview an assortment of characters that really can’t be described in just a few words. From Vic’s Ex-Step Grandmother (Lisa Gilroy) to Mental Health Advocate Tommy Shriggly (Zac Oyama), every improvisor brought a uniquely wild energy to Dropout’s short form series, matched by Michaelis’ ability to perfectly adapt to every situation while keeping up their host persona.

After being given full makeovers—including makeup, prosthetics and costumes—comedians come up with a character to sit down for a fully improvised interview. Michaelis says it was important for them, as well as director Tamar Levine, to create a sense of continuity with the host character, especially since the goal of the series was to showcase “different comedian’s styles of comedy” by not putting them into a box, “but to build the box around them.”

WGA Awards: ‘Parasite’, ‘Jojo Rabbit’ Take Top Film Honors; HBO Sweeps Key TV Nods With ‘Succession’, ‘Barry’ & ‘Watchmen’ – The Complete List Of Winners
Image
The WGA Awards boosted a pair of movie screenplays into Oscar frontrunner status on Saturday night, handing its marquee Original Screenplay award to Bong Joon Ho and Han Jin Won for Neon’s Parasite, and its Adapted Screenplay award to Taika Wiatiti for Searchlight’s Jojo Rabbit. Both of the winning scripts are nominated for Oscars on February 9.

This year the guild wasted no time in its 72nd edition, awarding its marquee prizes early in the night in simultaneous ceremonies in Los Angeles and New York. Many of the film-side nominees gathered in the Edison Ballroom in NYC, so as to make the shorter jump to the BAFTAs which are Sunday in London.

Last year, the guild did not line up with Oscar’s screenwriting prizes, awarding Bo Burnham’s Eighth Grade in original screenplay and Nicole Holofcener and Jeff Whitty’s Can You Ever Forgive Me? in adapted. Green...

CollegeHumor Sale Results In More Than 100 Layoffs
The future of CollegeHumor, the pioneering comedy website that rose to prominence before the rise of YouTube, was thrown into question Wednesday after the brand’s sale resulted in more than 100 layoffs.

InterActive Corp., the New York company that owned CollegeHumor parent Ch Media, sold its brands to CollegeHumor’s chief creative officer Sam Reich. Terms of the deal were undisclosed but Deadline reported that “all but a handful” of employees were notified of their layoffs Wednesday.

Reich, who joined CollegeHumor in 2006 was not available for comment, but shared the news on Twitter and said he aimed to continue operating the leading CollegeHumor brands, including Dropout, its comedy Svod streaming service. “I hope to be able to save Dropout, CollegeHumor, Drawfee, Dorkly, and many of our shows,” Reich said on Twitter. “Some will need to take on bold new creative directions in order to survive. You may not agree with all of them.

CollegeHumor Interviews Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade Celebrities On The ‘Confetti Carpet’
CollegeHumor is getting a comical behind-the-scenes look at the yearly Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York City. The comedy brand will release a series of interview videos called Macy’s Confetti Carpet on Thanksgiving Day, November 26, 2015.

Hosted by TV personality Ross Mathews, CollegeHumor’s Macy’s Confetti Carpet interviews will feature various Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade celebrities and performers before they head out onto the parade route. This is the second year CollegeHumor has hosted the seasonal series. In 2014, Jena Friedman and Pat Cassels stopped well-known names like Sesame Street’s Elmo, Frozen’s Idina Menzel, and YouTube a cappella group Pentatonix to ask them inane questions about their careers or their involvement in the Macy’s parade. This video of last year’s Confetti Carpet will give you a taste of what to expect on CollegeHumor’s channel today:

Macy’s Confetti Carpet may be only a temporary series of clips,...

Viral Video Chart: Game of Thrones' Red Wedding, Breaking Bad, Fifa 14
George Rr Martin says he likes viewers to be afraid, and Samuel Jackson does Walter White, in this week's rundown

Fear, death and destruction dominate the epic fantasy TV series Game of Thrones – but who is the power behind the throne? This week we have two clips featuring creator George Rr Martin. In the first, he talks to TBS chatshow host Conan O'Brien about his need to scare fans – creating characters with whom viewers can empathise before brutally killing them off. But the tables are turned in our second Conan clip as Martin is forced to watch the video reaction of fans as they view the "Red Wedding" episode. Beware: there are major spoilers!

Breaking Bad fan Samuel L Jackson has surprised some of his followers with a monologue posted on Reddit to raise money for the Alzheimer's Association. He is asking fans to bid cash for him to record...

Wing Commander (1999)
The Six Best Worst Video Game Movies List Videos (No, really!)
Wing Commander (1999)
The history of motion pictures adapted from video games is so sordid and disappointing to most gamers that bemoaning such films as "Bloodrayne," "Wing Commander," and "Hitman" has almost become an industry unto itself -- albeit an industry that generates negligible revenue for anyone. Case in point, tonight at the legendary Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre in New York City, humorists and gaming talk show hosts Patrick Cassels and Jeff Rubin will be putting their spin on the long, contentious relationship between the celluloid and the digital.

Personally, I've seen so many tiresome lists attacking the worst video game movies, that I think it's high time we reward -- well, acknowledge -- the Best Worst Video Game Movies List Videos -- or something like that.

6. While a tad drier than the other clips on this list, I applaud the guys at Gametrailers for going out and getting the clips. Very professional.

Bad Videogame Movies: The Definitive History

with Bleep Bloop co-hosts Patrick Cassels and Jeff Rubin live

Sunday, Sept 12 at the Alamo Ritz

Advance tix available here

Video games are fun and movies are great, so surely movies based on video games must be amazing… right? Yet time and again films based on computer games have proved to be at their best bizarrely tolerable, and at their worst unbearably awful. Like two harmless chemicals mixing to create a toxin that targets and kills coherent plots and good acting, perfectly playable games, like Double Dragon, translate to unwatchable movies, like Double Dragon.

Join Patrick Cassels and Jeff Rubin, writers at CollegeHumor and co-hosts of the online video game talk show Bleep Bloop, for a way-too-in-depth look at the relationship between games and movies. Watching scenes from Super Mario Bros., Street Fighter, Mortal Kombat, Resident Evil, Hitman and many, many more...
