The big-budget tentpole achieved the feat early Friday morning after finishing Thursday with $599.6 million in global ticket sales, including $343.6 million domestically and $256 million overseas. This weekend, F1: The Movie will — from Apple Original Films and released in partnership with Warners — will also blow past the $600 million mark at the worldwide box office. That Formula One pic’s performance has been far more of a surprise, considering racing movies have often struggled, whereas superhero films are considered far more of a sure bet, or were. While easily ranking as the top-grossing comic book movie of the year so far, Superman hasn’t been able to escape kryptonite altogether as superhero fatigue continues to make audiences more discerning.

When Superman arrived in theaters last month, it received positive reviews (83% on Rotten Tomatoes), and looks set to end 2025 as the year's highest-grossing superhero movie with over $600 million worldwide.

Many of you may already know about the popular entertainment website Letterboxd. It’s an Auckland-based film-focused social platform for diehard movie buffs. The international platform is renowned for its movie-centric global lists, such as the Top 50 Movies lists and the One Million and Two Million watched lists. In an exciting update for Superman fans, James Gunn’s reboot starring David Corenswet has officially joined the coveted Two-Million Watched Club on Letterboxd.

The announcement was made on the platform’s official X handle, revealing that Superman has become the fastest film ever to reach this landmark, crossing the figure in just 45 days after its theatrical release.

There's a lot of intrigue surrounding James Gunn's plans for his "Superman Saga," especially as his next movie won't be a straightforward Superman sequel.

Superman was released in theaters last month, while Supergirl follows next June. Gunn has already confirmed that his mysterious sequel—that's not a sequel—is likely heading our way in 2027, but it seems that's only going to be part three of four.

In a new interview, the DC Studios co-ceo pondered his wider plans for the Dcu and said in passing, "What is the long-term story I’m telling here? What is the story that I'm gonna tell about Superman over four movies?"

Gunn's approach to building a shared world is certainly very different from the MCU and a far cry from Warner Bros.' previous attempt with the Dceu. Whether he and Peter Safran will find the success they desire remains to be seen.

Superman hasn't been a box office flop (it will end 2025 as easily the year's highest-grossing superhero movie), but even with a guaranteed $600 million haul, it's also not a huge hit for DC Studios and Warner Bros. Discovery.

As recently as last month, NBC reported that Superman was awarded $11,091,686 in tax credits through its Ohio Motion Picture Tax Credit application, with "Ohio-related expenses were projected to exceed $36 million, which made up about 10% of the movie’s total budget of more than $363 million."

If the budget was that high, then Superman has likely barely broken even. Still, there will be money to be made from its many promotional partners, merchandise, and the recent Digital release.

Movies that have a successful afterlife on streaming after a rocky box office run aren't quite as rare as unicorns, but one such mystical beast has returned to the streaming charts. Death of a Unicorn, the fantastical black comedy featuring Paul Rudd and Jenna Ortega as a father-daughter duo who have a deadly run-in with a creature of myth, is back in the HBO Max top ten after falling off the charts.

Distributed by indie production company A24, Death of a Unicorn was released in March to mixed reviews. It currently holds a 53% Rotten rating on Rotten Tomatoes, but Collider's Nate Richard got more out of the film than most.

We've seen quite a few interpretations of Clark Kent's adoptive parents over the years in live-action and animation, on the big and small screens, but James Gunn's Superman is the first time Jonathan and Martha Kent have been depicted with strong accents.

When Clark is chatting to his parents on the phone, we learn that Ma and Pa Kent speak with pronounced (some might say slightly exaggerated) southern accents, whereas their son has a more neutral, metropolitan accent despite being raised in Smallville.

It's not exactly a huge deal, but some fans have been wondering why the Man of Steel doesn't have the same "redneck" accent as his folks.

It follows an early-career Superman (Corenswet) as he deals with the fallout of stepping into an international crisis and drawing the hatred of Lex Luthor (Hoult). Interestingly, Superman’s streaming release comes while it is still in theaters. Currently, its box office is sitting at $588.7 million globally, with a split of $337.1 million domestically and $251.7 million internationally.

Superman’s success has continued on streaming, as, according to iTopChart, it is currently the number one rental during its first weekend on VOD for iTunes. The film is followed by Jurassic World Rebirth in second and Thunderbolts* in third.

Earlier this week at the Peacemaker season 2 premiere, the Superman director shared an update on the next chapter in what he referred to as the Superman Saga. Though he declined to reveal any story details, Gunn said that he had already completed a treatment for the mysterious project.

“I’ve already finished the treatment for the next story in what I’ll call the ‘Superman Saga’. The treatment is done, which means a very, very worked out treatment. I’m working on that and hopefully going into production on that not too far away from today.”

Gunn has now shared another update with Collider, and it sounds like this movie could end up entering production much sooner than expected.

"We’re scheduling it now. I’m totally done with the treatment. My treatments are incredibly intense.

S2 E6: MKAW1SH

This episode begins in John’s past, where he first encounters Calypso on a dark mountain road. There’s a bit of foreshadowing in their conversation.

The qualifying round of the tournament continues. John and Quiet go back for Mayhem, which loses them time, and she’s not keen on their help. Quiet takes out one of the other drivers with a well-placed axe. Pretty much every vehicle is damaged in the furious race.

Raven is the first to make it to New Tournament City. From her conversation with Calypso as she turns in her package, it’s clear they know one another. I’m curious to see if he’s met the other drivers. He did say he wants to “be known” or “be seen.

Superman has landed on Digital platforms, just 35 days after it arrived in theaters. Exhibitors aren't happy, and the movie's box office will take a hit, but Warner Bros. Discovery clearly feels now is the right time to shift focus to earning revenue from Digital sales.

Superman has landed on Digital platforms, just 35 days after it arrived in theaters. Exhibitors aren't happy, and the movie's box office will take a hit, but Warner Bros. Discovery clearly feels now is the right time to shift focus to earning revenue from Digital sales.

After surpassing $331M to become the United States’ highest-grossing Man of Steel pic in the month since its release, James Gunn‘s Superman is soaring to digital in time for Peacemaker fans to catch up ahead of Season 2.

Faster than a speeding bullet, Superman‘s North American digital release is set for Friday, Aug. 15, ahead of Peacemaker‘s Friday, Aug. 22 return to HBO Max. The DC Studios movie then becomes available Sept. 23 on 4K Uhd, Blu-ray and DVD.

Earlier this week, we learned that Superman is coming to Digital much sooner than expected on August 15. Many fans have expressed excitement to watch the movie again at home, but with the reboot performing well in theaters still, it's a baffling move on Warner Bros. Discovery's part.

Chances are, there's more money to be made from Digital sales at this stage in the movie's theatrical run. However, exhibitors aren't happy with the decision, and when Screen Rant asked James Gunn about this early release, he explained why it's "complicated."

"Well, it's very complicated, but the truth is it is because of Peacemaker," the filmmaker claimed. "I originally thought Peacemaker was going to be coming out next month. There was a lot of things that are beyond our control, so that Peacemaker is coming out now."

James Gunn's Superman arrives on Digital platforms tomorrow, and we have a first look at three of the bonus features that will be available to watch when you rent or purchase the movie.

The "A New Era: DC Takes Off" featurette spotlights some new behind-the-scenes footage, along with interviews with the cast as they express their excitement about being on the front line of the Dcu.

Krypto also gets the spotlight in the first of a series of animated shorts, the first of which sees the super-pooch give chase to a particularly belligerent pigeon. Technically, the 5-minute short also features the second Dcu appearance of Superman!

The premiere of Peacemaker season 2 is currently underway in LA, and James Gunn shared an update on the next chapter in what he refers to as the "Superman Saga" while being interviewed by THR on the red carpet.

Whether this corner of the Dcu is now officially known as the Superman Saga is not clear.

The trades have already confirmed that Gunn is working on some sort of Superman sequel (it's previously been described as being part of the "Superman Family"), and the filmmaker has now revealed that he has already completed a treatment for the project and hopes to see it enter production fairly soon.

We still don't know much about this movie, but there's a lot of speculation that it might end up focusing on the Man of Steel (David Corenswet) teaming up with Supergirl (Milly Alcock) and Krypto to face-off against Brainiac, and/or possibly The Authority.

An hour-long featurette for Superman was released yesterday, and eagle-eyed fans have spotted a storyboard that may mean very little...or drop a huge clue about what's next for the Dcu's Man of Steel.

Filmmaker James Gunn has previously said that he considered the fan-favourite villain for Superman, meaning this could have been from a much earlier iteration of the DC Studios reboot.

Warner Bros. Pictures and DC Studios have announced the Superman Digital, 4K Uhd, Blu-ray, and DVD release dates. The summer blockbuster will be available on Digital this Friday, August 15, on platforms such as Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV, Fandango at Home, and more.

On September 23, Superman will be available to own on 4K Uhd, Blu-ray, and DVD from online and physical retailers. Superman will also continue to be available in high definition and standard definition from participating digital retailers.

In his signature style, James Gunn takes on the original Super Hero in the newly imagined DC universe with a singular blend of epic action, humor, and heart, delivering a Superman who’s driven by compassion and an inherent belief in the goodness of humankind.
