Despite isekai going way back as a genre, its only in the last decade that another world anime took the medium by storm, gaining the reputation of its most prolific and popular trope. While many believe that isekai is running out of steam, with so many repetitive adventures in generic magical worlds coming out each season, plenty of gems still emerge from the genre, and the demand for this brand of escapist fantasy is high.

Nowadays, isekai shows that attract even a dash of attention get renewed for new seasons, expanding their franchises for as long as possible. To the delight of fans, Hasbro has announced that it will release a My Little Pony: Equestria Girls 2013 special edition pony, inspired by the popular DJ Pon-3 character at San Diego Comic-Con. Adding to the DJ Pon-3 celebrity status at this year's convention, Idw's Sdcc special edition My Little Pony #9 variant will feature a glitter cover with the fan-favorite pony.

Michael Kelly, Director of Global Publishing at Hasbro made this statement.

"Idw's special Sdcc edition of My Little Pony #9 is a must have for any My Little Pony fan. The cover is a great companion piece to Hasbro's special edition pony inspired by the DJ PON3 toy, and the additional content provides an exciting glimpse into the origins of Twilight Sparkle's adventures in My Little Pony: Equestria Girls. My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic is getting the big screen treatment this June 16 with the animated adventure My Little Pony: Equestria Girls. Twilight Sparkle and her friends find themselves transported to another dimension, where they are transformed into oddly hued humans. Twilight must find out who stole a magical crown while traversing the challenges of high school. We're not making this up.
