Michael Maley is a key figure in the American music duo Siris, which he co-founded with his brother Patrick Maley. Born and raised in Philadelphia, Michael became known for creating music that blends Eastern and Western influences, particularly through his proficiency in both English and Chinese languages. His musical journey began in his teenage years and was heavily influenced by artists like Genesis, Sting, Level 42, U2, and Tears for Fears.
After high school, Michael moved to China to study Chinese at Fudan University in Shanghai, which profoundly impacted his life. During this time, he worked as an English teacher and translator, gaining fluency in Chinese and also appeared in TV commercials and the 1994 film Qing feng xia (1994). This period in China was also crucial for the eventual development of Siris's unique sound, melding Chinese musical elements with Western pop and rock.
In 1995, Michael and Patrick formed Siris. In 1997 they made history as the first Western group to release and perform original Chinese language music, with their debut Chinese album "Forever Cherishing Your Love" (Yong Yuan Zhen Xi Ni De Ai)
For 30 years Michael's work with Siris has not only been critically acclaimed but also celebrated for promoting cultural unity between East and West.
Beyond Siris, Michael is a successful producer, author, composer and President of Run Hard Media, a multimedia production company involved in music, film, and TV, production.
