It’s been nearly four months since YouTube announced that it would change the way it counts Shorts views, a shift that inflated view counts on the platform’s TikTok competitor. Though the new view-counting meta is still producing some eye-popping numbers, it feels like the dust is starting to settle.
South Korea’s Kimpro is in first place in the Global Top 50 with more than 2.5 billion weekly views, but that actually represents a step back for a channel that approached three billion weekly views just seven days ago. Meanwhile, five other channels got at least one billion weekly views,...

Each week, we handpick a selection of stories to give you a snapshot of trends, updates, business moves, and more from around the creator industry. This week, PewDiePie, Addison Rae, and Tom Scott are all impressing us with their second careers. Also, The Onion did something silly.
Creator commotion
PewDiePie’s art is making people reevaluate their life choices. The one-time king of YouTube drew every day for a year, and he got pretty good at art. So good, in fact, that other artists are wondering how their progress has been so slow in comparison. This is your weekly reminder that creators are good at tasks that involve repeated grinding. That’s why they play so many video games.
Kai Cenat leads Streamer Award noms. Speaking of video games, dozens of gamers will vie for trophies at QTCinderella‘s annual celebration of streaming content. None of those gamers are up...

Some people like to sip the tea, but YouTube is sipping the pickle juice. The video platform has launched In A Pickle, a dishy interview series in which creators have two choices: Share your secrets or end up with a sour taste in your mouth.
In A Pickle will go live via the official YouTube Blog, where the first episode of the series is now live. The show’s format is reminiscent of the hit series Hot Ones, in that it pairs pointed interrogation with extreme food challenges. Instead of eating increasingly hot wings, the guest creators on In A Pickle respond to a set of questions. For each question they skip, they must down a shot of pickle juice.
That doesn’t sound like much of a punishment to me, but inaugural guest Haley Kalil has her own opinions. The model, funnywoman, and professional troll answered almost all of...

In February 2023, the U.S. versions of our weekly Top 50 charts belonged to a single channel. That channel ended the month with twice as many views as any other hub based in the United States.
Amazingly, the leading channel in the chart isn’t known for short-form content, even though more than 70% of the ranked entrants fit that description.
Chart Toppers
There’s no doubt about it: Cocomelon – Nursery Rhymes is the #1 YouTube channel in the United States. The California-based producer of animations and jingles finished at the top of February’s Global Top 100, which means it also sits...

Peet Montzingo has had an unusual life. The YouTube Shorts star, whose videos show what it’s like to be a tall person raised by a dwarf mother, is the co-author of a new children’s book titled Little Imperfections: A Tall Tale of Growing Up Different.
Montzingo’s videos, which range from silly to spooky, have allowed him to place as one of the 50 most-watched channels in the U.S. Before he was a creator, however, he was a lanky boy growing up in a short family. That coming-of-age tale is at the heart of his picture book, which spins a tale reminiscent of The Ugly Duckling. The description of Little Imperfections describes its themes as “being different, feeling like you don’t fit in, and finding yourself along the way.”
Little Imperfections is co-written by Montzingo and Rockwell Sands. The two authors have known each other for ten years,...
