In one of his biggest hit songs, George Strait sings about how all his exes live in Texas, and that’s why he lives in Tennessee. While it makes a good riff, the singer was born and raised in Texas. He still lives there today, despite his massive success. In fact, he’s using his fame to raise funds after a natural disaster swept through Texas.

Bob Dylan invited Billy Strings onto the stage Thursday night when the Outlaw Music Festival touched down at One Spokane Stadium in Spokane, Washington. They performed a slow, stripped-down version of “All Along the Watchtower” where Dylan once again sang in a remarkably clear and lucid voice.

Over the course of her decade-plus-long career, Lily Meola has carved out a niche that isn’t really a niche; as heard on this year’s Postcards to Heaven EP, the Hawaiian-born singer-songwriter floats between modern country and willowy pop. But starting with one of her first mentors — Willie Nelson — she’s also had a strong jones for the Nashville sound: She’s duetted with Nelson and Kris Kristofferson and played at Farm Aid. And her new single is a duet with another, even more hirsute outlaw traditionalist, Jamey Johnson.

Tonight on American Idol — the top 62 contestants continued their Hollywood Week experience in the Showstoppers Round, where they took the stage once more to prove they've got the vocal prowess and charisma to become America's next superstar. Like last week's Idol Arena, each contestant performed in front of judges Carrie Underwood, Luke Bryan, and Lionel Richie, and then had to wait until the end of the night to find out who advanced in the competition. Unlike last week, they got zero feedback. The two-hour episode aired Sunday, April 6 (8 p.m. Et/Pt) with Ryan Seacrest hosting.
There were certainly plenty of showstoppers throughout the night, but the judges all agreed that the best was saved for last. Platinum Ticket winner Canaan James Hill was feeling the pressure as he waited to hit the stage, but the 17-year-old didn't show it when he belted out Marvin Sapp's "Never Would Have Made It.

Even as an era of soul-baring artists playing stripped-down, heart-heavy songs takes hold in country music, Nolan Taylor manages to stand out.
Since his reflective song “68” caught fire on social media in 2023, and after spending a year opening for Wyatt Flores and the Lost Dog Street Band, as well as landing on the Twisters soundtrack last summer, Taylor has built a fanbase that is growing by leaps and bounds. The payoff came last week when he released his 16-track self-titled debut album on Atlantic records. The songs are intense and heavy,...

After dominating the pop and country charts since 2019, Morgan Wallen picked up his first entertainer of the year honor at the 2024 CMA Awards, though he wasn’t there to accept it.
The country star beat out last year’s winner, Lainey Wilson, as well as Luke Combs, Jelly Roll and Chris Stapleton, who won multiple honors Wednesday. Jeff Bridges presented the final award of the night, which comes weeks after Wallen earned his first pair of Grammy nominations.
Though Wallen missed the show, Stapleton was the big winner: He took home single, song and male vocalist of the year. He also opened the three-hour event alongside Post Malone with their collaboration, “California Sober,” sang “Honky Tonk Hall of Fame” with George Strait — who earned the Willie Nelson Lifetime Achievement Award — and strummed his guitar while staring at his wife, Morgane Stapleton, as they performed “What Am I Gonna Do.”

George Strait was honored with the Willie Nelson Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2024 CMA Awards. Lainey Wilson kicked off the homage with a note-perfect take on Strait’s signature “Amarillo by Morning,” followed by Jamey Johnson’s plainspoken but swaggering rendition of “Give It Away.”
Parker McCollum and Miranda Lambert traded verses on Strait’s 2008 hit “Troubadour,” a fitting song for the occasion. To cap things off, Strait emerged to reprise “Honky Tonk Hall of Fame,” his duet with Chris Stapleton, from his album Cowboys and Dreamers released earlier this year.

When Jamey Johnson released his label debut The Dollar in 2006, he was a clean-cut hat act still holding onto a little spit shine from his service in the Marines. Two years later, he’d grown out his hair and beard and effectively brought outlaw country — in both look and sound — back to Nashville with the ragged and raw That Lonesome Song. The equally rough-hewn albums that followed, 2010’s double LP The Guitar Song and a 2012 collection of Hank Cochran compositions, suggested Johnson would be a prolific recording artist.

It’s one last waltz for Robbie and Marty.
Variety reports that Martin Scorsese is directing the filming of a tribute concert dedicated to his late friend and collaborator Robbie Robertson for a concert film. The Blackbird Presents (Outlaw Music Festival)-produced concert, called “Life Is a Carnival: A Musical Celebration of Robbie Robertson,” will take place Thursday at the Kia Forum in Los Angeles. Plans for the release of the future film have not been set.
Robertson, the legendary musician and songwriter best known for his work with the legendary roots rock outfit The Band, died in 2023 at age 80. His relationship with Scorsese went back to the 1970s, when Scorsese directed “The Last Waltz,” the 1978 star-studded concert film commemorating The Band’s final performance. Robertson then worked as a composer, music supervisor, or consultant on many of Scorsese’s films, including “Raging Bull,” “The Color of Money,” “Casino,” and “The Irishman.

Of all the performances at “Toby Keith: American Icon,” a tribute show held at Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena Monday night, the most surprising was an unexpected appearance by Keith himself — on the overhead video screens, filmed during what was described as his final recording session.
The emotional kicker came near the end of the all-star concert, as Keith was seen in a recording studio singing a cover of “Ships That Don’t Come In,” recorded in 1992 by Joe Diffie, who died of complications from Covid in 2020. The musical accompaniment was provided live by the tribute special’s house band as Keith, in studio headphones, sang the bittersweet chorus: “So here’s to all the soldiers / Who have ever died in vain / The insane locked up in themselves / And the homeless down on Main / To those who stand on empty shores / And spit against the wind /And those who wait forever...
