Uncanny X-Men #5 Reveals The Aftermath Of Rogue's Fight With A Monstrous New Villain [Exclusive Marvel Preview]
Image
Gail Simone and David Marquez's run on "Uncanny X-Men" has been a mix of the old and new. The core cast is five familiar X-Men: Rogue, Gambit, Wolverine, Nightcrawler, and Jubilee.

After the fall of mutant homeland Krakoa earlier this year, the five have regrouped in Gambit's home state of Louisiana. Unsure what purpose the X-Men even have anymore, Rogue has taken on a leadership role. In fact, she has to, because four young mutants recently showed up on the X-Men's doorstep. The "Outliers" are on the run from a terrifying new villain called the Hag. Flashbacks have shown that the Hag has some history with Professor X, but her existence is news to Xavier's students and readers. The result has been an X-Men story with flourishes of Southern Gothic horror.

Marvel has shared an exclusive preview of "Uncanny X-Men" #5 with /Film. This will wrap up Simone and Marquez's first story arc,...

X-Men's New Mutant-Hunter The Hag Flips Everything That Ever Made Sentinels Scary
Image
Warning: contains spoilers for Uncanny X-Men #2A spine-tingling nightmare is headed straight for Rogue's new team of X-Men as "The Hag" hunts innocent mutants - like the newly introduced Outliers - for horrific experimentation. The existential horror that is the Sentinels has been replaced by the supernatural terror of the Hag, haunting and hunting mutantkind for villainous humans in Uncanny X-Men #2.

For decades now the Sentinels have been a symbol of mutant oppression, and the violent lengths humanity will go to eradicate mutantkind. Now, X-Men's new demonic villain flips the science-fiction horror of Sentinels on its head, as Dr. Corina Ellis of the Graymalkin Prison partners with the supernaturally empowered Hag to collect new mutants for her prison.

The Hag is not a programmed machine, like the Sentinels, but is instead choosing to hunt these innocent mutants. Uncanny X-Men #2, from writer Gail Simone and artist David Marquez, sees...

This 13-Year-Old Movie Starring James McAvoy, Emily Blunt, & Jason Statham Was Not At All What I Was Expecting
Image
Disneys Gnomeo & Juliet was such a strange movie that was the last thing that I expected from a film starring James McAvoy, Emily Blunt, Jason Statham, and plenty of other famous actors and celebrities. Marking Touchstone Pictures first animated movie since The Nightmare Before Christmas, Gnomeo & Juliet was released in 2011 and was a box office success. The film made $193.9 million at the box office on a $36 million budget, having been distributed by Disney with a theatrical release.

Gnomeo & Juliet follows the plot of William Shakespeares Romeo and Juliet play but with gnomes in neighboring gardens in Shakespeares English hometown, Stratford-upon-Avon. The film was a clever movie adaptation of Shakespeares play, making it more accessible for younger audiences to follow the famous playwrights work. I particularly enjoyed the movies distinctive house division marked via the color of the gnomes, and Gnomeo & Juliets soundtrack, which heavily featured Elton John's songs.

“Bel-Air” showrunner Carla Banks Waddles opened up about how she was able to nab heavy-hitter Black entrepreneurs to make a cameo in Season 3, Episode 2: “Pivot.” Those guest stars were Entertainment Studios founder Byron Allen, Uncle Nearest cofounder Fawn Weaver, and Mielle Organics’ CEO Monique Rodriguez and COO Melvin Rodriguez.

As the episode’s title suggest, “Bel-Air’s” two lead characters, Will (Jabari Banks) and Carlton (Olly Sholotan), set off on a new journey into entrepreneurship. On top of trying to come up with a good idea for a start-up to pitch to venture capitalist Quentin (Vic Mensa), they’ve both taken summer jobs at a local country club. In an effort to inspire them, and to provide real-life examples of what successful Black business owners look like, Uncle Phil (Adrian Holmes) called on some of friends. Ultimately, the quartet appears towards the end of the episode at a celebratory...

Uncanny X-Men brings two devious villains into the lives of mutants
Mia Goth in X (2022)
When Marvel Comics announced that Gail Simone (Batgirl and Deadpool) would be Uncanny X-Men’s newest writer, fans rejoiced. She’s one of the greatest comic book writers ever, and in this series she's joined by all-star artist David Marquez (Justice League and Batman/Superman). This makes for an incredible creative team and the right way to promote a new Uncanny X-Men series.

We knew that the team would consist of Rogue as the leader, along with Gambit, Wolverine, Jubilee, and Nightcrawler, and we also knew that the world still hated and feared mutants. We weren’t aware who the first villains would be. That's revealed in the first issue of Uncanny X-Men.

Not only are they devious, and dangerous, but they'll remind the forgetful how amazing the X-Men are when defeated. Here's a look at what they did that makes them important and deadly.

Every Movie Coming to Disney+ in April 2024
Image
In true Disney+ fashion, the streaming service has nothing but family-friendly offerings coming to the platform in April. That being said, despite their appeal to children, plenty of adults could easily find the forthcoming choices entertaining and worth watching. Fans of Disney+ are well aware of the kinds of original programming the company produces on a regular basis and next month is no different.

While there are only three films coming to the streaming platform in April, each film is most definitely worthy of the next family movie night. With two documentaries and a classic callback to Disney films of the past, what the streaming service lacks in variety next month they certainly make up for with quality. Given the kind of films Disney+ is bringing to its subscribers in the coming weeks, adults and children alike should absolutely take the time to check out each film.

Harvey Guillén praises Disney's progress in diversity but hopes for a queer Disney Princess in the future. Wish, a new Disney film, follows an optimist who makes a wish to a cosmic force to save her community. Wish is heading to 4K Uhd, Blu-ray, and DVD on March 12.

Harvey Guillén has addressed Disney’s progression in diversity, and would love to see the next Disney Princess be queer. Exclusive: Harvey Guillén Talks Disney's Wish and What We Do in the Shadows Final Season
Image
Harvey Guillén has certainly had an incredible career. While he had appeared in a number of roles in projects like The Internship and television series like The Magician, it was his role in the critically acclaimed and hilarious FX series What We Do in the Shadows that put him on the map. In the series, he plays Guillermo, a long-suffering familiar of the vampire Nandor, who dreams of becoming a vampire himself and puts up with his master and the various other vampires for it. Since then, Guillén has become a welcome presence in roles like the best video game movie, Werewolves Within, and recently, Blue Beetle.

He has also emerged as an incredible voice actor. He has had roles on the television series Mickey Mouse Funhouse and Harley Quinn and films like Puss in Boots: The Last Wish. He will lend his vocals to Odie in the upcoming Garfield.

Pixels of You by Ananth Hirsh, Yuko Ota, and J.R. Doyle
Image
It’s not usual for a creative team to accrete members over time. Ok, sure, you can think of bands that got bigger as they got successful enough to add, for instance, a horn section, but those accretions tend to be semi-separate: The Fantastic Desperadoes with the Horns of Doom! People get replaced, of course. But it’s not common for new people to come in, set up, and just be added.

So I’m wondering what will be next for the team behind Pixels of You , a 2021 graphic novel from Amulet, Abrams’ teen-comics imprint. Co-writers Ananth Hirsh and Yuko Oda did the book Lucky Penny together before this – there, Hirsh was billed as the writer and Oda as the artist, but we all know artists in comics do at least half the storytelling (which means “writing”) anyway.

This time out, they have a new artist – maybe to have a particular look,...

Wish Interview: Chris Pine On Magnifico's Villainous Arc & His Surprising Likability
Image
Wish is a magical adventure that celebrates Disney's 100-year legacy of animation, featuring a talented cast and a captivating story of a teenage girl and her journey to save her kingdom. Chris Pine portrays the charming and powerful villain, Magnifico, whose descent into madness and villainy is a joy to watch and listen to, especially in his big villain song. Pine skillfully infuses Magnifico with likability while still showcasing his villainous tendencies, creating a character that can be both loved and hated by the audience. Recording Magnifico's song was a challenging yet rewarding experience for Pine.

Wish follows Asha, a teenage girl living in the kingdom of Rosas, which is ruled by the powerful King Magnifico. Although the entire kingdom looks up to him, Asha discovers a dangerous secret about Magnifico and looks to the stars for help. When they answer, much to her surprise, with a magical star coming to her assistance,...

Alan Tudyk, Chris Pine, and Ariana DeBose in Wish : Asha et la Bonne Étoile (2023)
Occasionally, a flick comes at the right time. And for me, as we head into the holiday season, Wish was one of them (read our review). It may not be technically the best of the current Disney releases, but something about its story and music spoke to this viewer. The film features terrific performances from its stars, including Ariana DeBose, Chris Pine, Alan Tudyk, and Victor Garber. Directed by Chris Buck and Fawn Veerasunthorn, from a script by Jennifer Lee and Allison Moore, Wish comes from the inspiration of 100 years of Disney animation. From classic cameos to the lovely tunes from Julia Michaels and Benjamin Rice, Wish was a delight.

Last week, we had the thrill of attending an in-person junket for the film. With the strike ending, Hollywood was again ready to get their voice out there. And after attending a preview event for Wish, it was nice to...

‘Wish’ Review: Ariana DeBose Shines In A Low-Stakes Fairytale That Sells The Disney Brand Short
Image
“Be careful what you wish for” is the moral of Disney’s latest animation, an odd sort of greatest-hits package that ticks all the boxes for what passes as inspirational fare these days. Sadly, that message mostly applies to the studio bosses, who appear to have closed their eyes and blown out 100 candles in return for a 95-minute movie based on the company theme song: Pinocchio’s “When You Wish Upon a Star.”

Cliff Edwards’ haunting, seven-note refrain is referenced throughout the entire movie, but in a weirdly mutated version that, whenever it chimes in, sounds like whoever’s playing it has forgotten how it actually goes, or might be playing it with a rubber spoon. Similarly, on closer examination (which is not at all advised), the plot comes to resemble a similarly wonky AI meditation on the song’s lyrics, which served Pinocchio’s themes very well with its talk of hearts’ desires,...

Wish Will Celebrate Disney's 100 Years With 'Dozens of Legacy Nods' to Classics
Image
The upcoming Disney animated film, Wish, will include subtle nods to the studio's various fan-favorite films of the last 100 years.

Wish is directed by Chris Buck known for co-directing the studio's hit films Tarzan, Frozen, and Frozen 2, and Fawn Veerasunthorn, who served as the head of story on Raya and the Last Dragon. In an interview with Entertainnment Weekly, Buck and Fawn revealed that akin to Easter eggs, the movie will throughout be paying subtle nods to classic Disney films, to celebrate Disney's 100th Anniversary.

‘The Amityville Theater’ Gets Lost In Its Own Playhouse [The Amityville IP]
Image
Twice a month Joe Lipsett will dissect a new Amityville Horror film to explore how the “franchise” has evolved in increasingly ludicrous directions. This is “The Amityville IP.”

We’re hitting new lows with the “franchise” with The Amityville Theater (or The Amityville Playhouse depending on where you watch). Despite an inherently interesting location and a few well-shot sequences that suggest a much more interesting film, director John R. Walker and writer Steve Hardy never get a handle on the material. This is never more evident than in the brief climax, which poorly and hastily delivers a ton of exposition in a rushed and unsatisfying way. Add in some of the worst acting the series has seen yet, and this one is a bit of a stinker.

The first few scenes of the film are non-linear, as Fawn Harriman (Monèle LeStrat) confirms her plans to spend the weekend at the...

Charlie Simpson reveals meaning behind The Masked Singer costume
Image
Charlie Simpson, recent winner of The Masked Singer, has revealed that he chose his rhino costume on the show as a nod to his wife’s childhood and family.

The former Busted frontman won ITV’s secret singing competition on Saturday evening, after he performed three songs including Lewis Capaldi’s “Before You Go”.

Now, the 37-year-old has explained the sentimental reason why he decided to opt for a rhino costume.

“My wife grew up in Kenya so I spend a lot of time in Kenya, and we spend a lot of time on safari,” said Simpson. “I actually walked with rhinos, and some of the rhinos, there’s only a handful of them left.”

He continued: “They’re really endangered and they have to be guarded by military personnel now, so the poachers don’t get them and I actually got to go and walk around with them, with these guards,...

Rhino identity revealed after being crowned winner of The Masked Singer
Image
Busted’s Charlie Simpson has been crowned the winner of The Masked Singer.

The singer, 37, who rose to fame with the pop-punk band which produced hits including “Year 3000” and “Crashed The Wedding”, performed in disguise as Rhino throughout the ITV series.

Simpson performed three times across Saturday’s finale show (18 February) and beat Kaiser Chiefs frontman Ricky Wilson, who was disguised as Phoenix, and All Saints star Natalie Appleton, who was hiding behind the Fawn mask.

The Busted star admitted he did not expect to win the show and just tried to “remember the lyrics and have fun”.

Asked how he found the experience, he said: “I was terrified the entire time because the thing I was scared most of was remembering lyrics. I often forget lyrics to my own songs.”

He added that his last song of the show, “Try” by P!nk, was the only time he did...

Another contestant has been revealed in this year’s series of The Masked Singer.

Saturday 7 January’s episode of the new season saw characters including Piece of Cake, Fawn, Rubbish, Rhino, Pigeon and Jacket Potato face off against one another.

The panel of judges made some wild guesses in this episode, with names of famous politicians, comedians, singers and athletes all being thrown into the mix.

Jacket Potato, Rubbish and Piece of Cake ended up in the bottom three, with the judges left to decide who to vote out.

The judges first decided to save Rubbish, following his performance of “Let Me Entertain You” by Robbie Williams.

Jacket Potato was next to be saved, after singing “Viva Las Vegas” by Elvis Presley.

Ultimately, Piece of Cake was voted out of the contest, revealing herself to be Scottish singer Lulu, who had performed “Shiver” by Ed Sheeran on the contest.

The Masked Singer: Who is Fawn?
Image
The Masked Singer has returned for its fourth UK series, with a new batch of contestants attempting to sing their way through while remaining undetected.

The show kicked off on New Year’s Day, with the first six acts singing in disguise as the judges and viewers attempted to guess their identities.

The first contestan, Ghost, was unmasked and revealed to be football pundit Chris Kamara.

The remaining six contestants will compete during Saturday (7 January) night’s show.

Fawn is a wide-eyed deer, who wears a brown and white spotted jacket and trousers and matching bow on their head, with furry leg warmers.

She asked for five sugars in her tea, before remarking: “Like a fawn, I admit that when I was young I was a bit awkward.”

The judges noted she was wearing a necklace that said “Sandy”.

“Call me a boffin, but maths was a passion... that my...

‘That’s not true:’ Ryan Seacrest left surprised by Andy Cohen revelation after claiming host ignored him
Image
Ryan Seacrest’s New Year’s Eve claim about Andy Cohen has been called out by Kelly Ripa.

On Saturday (31 January), Seacrest and Cohen both hosted ABC and CNN’s respective coverage of the evening approximately 10 feet away from each other in New York’s Times Square.

However, according to Seacrest, Cohen, who was presenting alongside Anderson Cooper, ignored him when he tried to say hello.

Speaking on Live! with Kelly and Ryan on Tuesday (3 January), Seacrest said: “My big stage was right in front of Anderson and Andy, and so when I was not working, I was trying to get their attention. I thought maybe I was in the shot.”

He continued: “I just wanted to wave and say hi, you know? They have a great show.”

Seacrest claimed that, while Cooper “turned around” and told him to “have a good show”, Cohen “did not turn around”.

Ripa then defended Cohen,...

Will Smith and Apple host all-star ‘Emancipation’ screening
Image
A lucky group of A-listers and influencers got an early look at “Emancipation,” the Will Smith-starring historical survival picture directed by Antoine Fuqua that may still be in the running for awards action this season.

In early November, Smith, Fuqua, and Apple Original Films held a screening in Washington, D.C., in conjunction with the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation’s annual conference. A discussion followed, moderated by Mary Elliott, curator of American Slavery at the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture, and the audience had numerous policy-makers and representatives from important Black institutions.

On Monday, Smith ditched the formal attire for a cozier affair at a small screening room, but with an impressive group of friends. Rihanna, Tyler Perry, Dave Chappelle, Aap Rocky, Kenya Barris, fashion designer Fawn, Blacksmith Records co-founder Corey Smyth, and others were in attendance.

Smith took a fun selfie with the crew.

Tribeca 2022 Review: Travis Stevens’ A Wounded Fawn is a Cinematic Reckoning with a Greek Twist
Image
Horror gets a Greek twist in A Wounded Fawn, Travis Stevens’ latest project that features Josh Ruben as a serial killer who gets more than he bargains for when he takes a potential victim away for a planned vacation from hell, but she ends up putting him through the proverbial ringer for his misdeeds. Watching the evolution of Stevens’ career as a filmmaker has been extremely fascinating over the last few years and A Wounded Fawn demonstrates that he’s someone who is looking for new ways to challenge himself as a storyteller. And while I am a fan of both of his previous films, I feel like A Wounded Fawn is easily his most ambitious effort yet in a variety of ways as both Stevens and co-writer Nathan Faudree find some clever ways of twisting our expectations by infusing their slasher story with a heightened sense of mythological surrealism,...

Pharrell Williams
The Voice Top 12 Performance Recap: Reba With a Cause
Pharrell Williams
I could say it’s not worth paying attention to The Voice coaches’ comments — which, expressed in paint colors, would range from Rose-Colored Glasses to Fawn(ing) Grey to Sugar-Coated.

But then you’d miss the subtle, sometimes hilarious subtext of Blake, Pharrell, Adam and especially Xtina when they deliberately avoid comments about actual singing — turning everything to pure comedy in the process. (Sample critique: Ms. Aguilera’s “You’ve got that girl-vote goin’ for ya” after mega-hot Corey Kent White hit maybe 60 percent of his notes at best while covering a Jason Aldean ditty.)

Fox Schedules Red Band Society's Final Three Episodes for Saturday Nights
Octavia Spencer, Dave Annable, Charlie Rowe, Ciara Bravo, Griffin Gluck, Nolan Sotillo, Zoe Levin, and Astro in Red Band Society (2014)
Red Band Society still has a heartbeat — albeit a faint one.

While Fox decided in November not to pick up any more than the 13 originally ordered episodes — which is usually a sure sign of impending cancellation — the network has decided to schedule the show’s final three installments.

A Fox spokesperson confirmed Red Band Society will return to the schedule on Saturday, Jan. 31 at 9/8c, and then conclude its run with back-to-back episodes on Feb. 7 at 8/7c. TV Guide Magazine first hinted at the news.

In December, showrunner Rina Mimoun promised a satisfying conclusion — and a major character death — during...

Gordon Ramsay, Aarón Sánchez, and Christina Tosi in MasterChef Junior (2013)

Production on the Gordon Ramsay-fronted cooking-competition-for-the-Nickelodeon-set’s Season 4 will begin this spring. Season 3 currently airs Tuesdays at 8/7c.

The network also announced that Christina Tosi, pastry chef and founder of New York City’s Milk Bar, will join Ramsay and Graham Elliot on the MasterChef and MasterChef Junior judging panels.

New Girl's Max Greenfield Talks Wooing Fawn, Krumping With Twitch — Plus: Why Is Schmidt Swaddled?
Fawn
New Girl‘s Schmidt has a powerful new lady and an even more powerful burning sensation in his gut, and those two things will make for much hilarity in the Fox comedy’s next few episodes.

“The stuff with Zoe Lister-Jones” — who debuted last week as smooth-talking city councilwoman Fawn Moscato — “is really funny,” star Max Greenfield tells TVLine during a visit to the show’s set, adding that “the Fawn/Schmidt relationship is just full of sex.”

Among the (Sfw) moments: In an upcoming installment, “we go to an anti-gang initiative, and I krump,” Greenfield previews.

Don’t worry; he did his homework.

'30 Rock' season 6 premiere: Dance like nobody's watching!
I’m so glad 30 Rock is back. As a matter of fact, it might just be the highlight of my year, and I realize it’s only January. But it’s been way too long since I last had a nice dose of Liz Lemon & Co. (Although, I will admit that it feels weird to watch 30 Rock at 8 p.m. instead of the noticeably absent Community. It’s not cheating, guys. I love both!) Anyway, let’s get down to the important stuff and chat about “Dance Like Nobody’s Watching!”

Kenneth was convinced the world was ending tomorrow. (I...

'American Idol' Fans Fawn Over Adam Lambert At L.A. Tour Stop
Anoop Desai also got some love: 'There's something sexy about him,' one fan admits.

By Katie Byrne

Adam Lambert performs during the 2009 American Idols Live! tour in los angeles, California on Thursday

Los Angeles — If Thursday's American Idols Live! tour stop in L.A. proved anything, it's that America's love for Adam Lambert is as strong as ever. From the preshow screaming whenever his face appeared on the Staples Center JumboTron to the merch counter's sellout of Adam T-shirts, the Glambert fascination was in full force.

This was especially true for the "American Idol" fans MTV News caught up with after the show, who had a common love for the rock star in the making.

"Obviously Adam," Natalia Brandon said when asked her favorite performer. (We probably didn't even have to ask, since Natalia was wearing a homemade Adam T-shirt and carrying a sparkly Adam poster.
