There are some people who believe Adam Sandler hasn’t made a funny movie in two decades, and others who will argue that he has never made a funny movie. However, that doesn’t stop the darling of Netflix from delivering a string of huge hits for the streamer, and his latest, Happy Gilmore 2, managed to smash Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery to pieces and claim a huge Netflix record on its debut.
As revealed in new data from streaming chart company Nielsen, Sandler’s return to the course in Happy Gilmore 2 managed to tee up a huge win with 2.9 billion minutes viewed between July 25-27 – taking...

Spoiler Alert: This interview contains spoilers for the Season 3 finale of “The Gilded Age,” now streaming on HBO Max.
Now that HBO’s “The Gilded Age” has steamrolled audiences with a grand third season finale, we’re left mitigating the fallout of marriages and social alliances (all while trying to define the word “geegaws“). But there’s a clear winner in this year’s turn-of-the-century New York rat race created by Julian Fellowes: Jack Trotter.
Played with confident sweetness by actor Ben Ahlers, Jack has been a beloved “downstairs” member of the cast since day one — a footman brimming with American ingenuity, who creates the world’s first alarm clock and gets rich in the process. But Ahlers’ Jack is not content to become a nouveau riche nightmare, having spent the bulk of recent episodes dragging his feet about leaving the home and his employers, Agnes and Ada (Christine Baranski...

Netflix has found the stars for its newest comedy, The Leading Man, based on the Oni Press comic series by B. Clay Moore and Jeremy Haun. Written by Jon and Erich Hoeber, the filmfollows a narcissistic Hollywood star who believes he's the ultimate action hero--until he discovers that his man in the chair is a real undercover agent.
The actor will be forced to swallow his pride and accept that action stars aren’t really action heroes, all while trying to save the world. With its blend of Hollywood satire and high-stakes espionage, The Leading Man is set to pair Cena's self-aware humor with Hart's quick-witted banter for what will be the duo's first major on-screen collaboration.

With every passing day, we are moving one step closer to John Cena‘s retirement from the WWE, which is coming over two decades after he first signed with the company. The retirement means Cena can give his full attention to Hollywood, and it looks like he is already making all the right choices, especially considering his next move.
According to a report by Deadline, Cena and Kevin Hart are all set to star in an action comedy titled ‘The Leading Man’. Writers Jon and Erich Hoeber have pitched the idea to Netflix, which has supposedly impressed the streaming giant.
There is no denying that Cena and comedy go together like peanut butter and jelly. Add Hart to the mix and you’ve got yourself the perfect formula for a big hit. Just ask Dwayne Johnson. Whether it’s ‘Central Intelligence’ or the ‘Jumanji’ films, a collaboration with Hart can be gold if done right.

Exclusive: Writers Jon and Erich Hoeber have sold Netflix on the pitch for The Leading Man, an action comedy based on the comic book series from Jeremy Haun and B. Clay Moore, to star and be produced by Kevin Hart and John Cena.
The project brings the Hoebers back to Netflix following the sale of their original script Fast & Loose, an actioner to star Will Smith, which is currently in pre-production and looking for a new director.
In early development, pic’s logline is as follows: When a self-absorbed movie star (Cena) discovers that his co-star/man in the chair (Hart) is an actual agent, he’s forced to swallow his pride and accept that action stars aren’t really action heroes…while trying to save the world.
Hart will produce alongside Luke Kelly-Clyne and Bryan Smiley for Hartbeat, under the company’s multi-film deal with Netflix, along with...

Is comedy making a comeback? After Liam Neeson and Pamela Anderson’s The Naked Gun made $28M+ at the box office, the market for procedural comedies is looking up. According to Deadline, Netflix is eager to capitalize on comedy’s upswing by giving a green light to a T.J. Hooker film, based on the ’80s prime time procedural starring William Shatner.
Netflix’s T.J. Hooker film project finds Jarrad Paul and Andy Mogel writing the script, with Sophie Cassidy and Matt Crespy producing for 2.0 Entertainment, Adrian Askarieh for Prime Universe Films, and Alex Westmore for Vali Vista Films.
Old heads will remember the original series, which premiered on ABC in March 1982. The cop drama ended after five seasons (91 episodes), with the final season airing on CBS. You might be tempted to rewatch Adam Sandler’s hit 1996 comedy Happy Gilmore before taking in its long-belated sequel on Netflix, but there’s really no need. There are so many clips from its predecessor that even those who never saw the original film will have no trouble catching up. Add to that the many original performers repeating their roles, the constant callbacks and the nonstop nostalgia, and the result is less a continuation than an exercise in fan service. If you’re watching Happy Gilmore 2 at home, don’t be surprised if some of the castmembers show up at your door offering autographed pictures for a fee.
Yes, it’s been 29 years since the first film, but considering its constant presence on cable and streaming, it’s surprising that repeating screenwriters Sandler and Tim Herlihy felt the need to provide so many reminders. But then again, Sandler has...

After playing the President in Prime Video’s Heads of State, John Cena is taking another comedic detour. Cena is now heading to Netflix for his upcoming comedy Little Brother.
Released earlier this month, Head of State has quickly climbed Prime Video’s global Top 10. Fresh off the success in Prime Video’s action comedy alongside Idris Elba and Priyanka Chopra Jonas, Cena is taking on his next big role.
Now, Netflix‘s latest project pairs Cena with comedian Eric André in a sibling role. Directed by Ingrid Goes West filmmaker Matt Spicer, the movie is currently filming in New Jersey. It is expected to be released in 2026. While Cena prepares for his final matches in WWE, he’s also doubling down in Hollywood. Little Brother could be his wildest detour yet.

Julie Bowen won two Emmy Awards for playing Claire Dunphy on ABC’s long-running sitcom Modern Family, but for many, she will always be Virginia Venit, Adam Sandler’s love interest in 1996’s Happy Gilmore. But, per Entertainment Weekly, Bowen, who starred in the Peacock series Hysteria! in 2024, thought she wouldn’t get the call for the Happy Gilmore sequel.
Happy Gilmore 2 will reunite Sandler and Bowen when it hits Netflix on July 25. Bowen, in an appearance on Michael Rosenbaum’s Inside of Youpodcast, confessed that she thought she’d be replaced by a younger actress for the sequel. “I didn’t think they’d bring me back at all. I mean, who am I supposed to be? He’s got to have a younger woman in this one, Happy Gilmore 2,” Bowen said.

Legendary’s upcoming Street Fighter movie is building out a cast that’s as wild as a Shoryuken — and another demented name has joined the fun. David Dastmalchian to join the video game adaptation, which is quickly shaping up to be one of the most stacked and eccentric ensemble films of 2026. Coming off his acclaimed turn in last year's Last Night with the Devil, Dastmalchian has agreed a deal to play the movie’s main villain, M. Bison — the dictator-like overseer of the tournament and head of the criminal organization Shadaloo.
Dastmalchian is probably best known for his multitude of roles in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and DC Universe, with parts in all three Ant-Man movies, as well as James Gunn's The Suicide Squad. He's also appeared in films as varied as The Dark Knight, Blade Runner 2049, Dune, Oppenheimer and Prisoners.

This article contains spoilers for "Ironheart" season 1, episode 1, "Take Me Home."
Riri Williams (Dominique Thorne) is out of Wakanda, out of MIT, and in with a seriously bad crowd. The long-awaited "Black Panther: Wakanda Forever" spin-off "Ironheart" takes Riri back to her roots in Chicago, with a burning desire to build something truly unsurpassed but a chronic lack of funding. To alleviate the latter, she agrees to join Parker "The Hood" Robbins' (Anthony Ramos) gang of criminals for some hopefully easy heist money after being convinced that they're palatable enough to work with in the short term.
Parker's group features the sort of misfits you'd expect to see in a heist-themed MCU project, from Shea Couleé's hacker Slug to Sonia Denis' erratic Clown. Perhaps the most surprising presence among them is noted comedian Eric André, who plays the team's resident tech guy, Stuart Clarke. Stuart spends much of...

Prepare your armor, reader: This article contains spoilers for "Ironheart" season 1, episode 3, "We in Danger, Girl."
For viewers who haven't paid attention to casting announcements, "Ironheart" has some fun surprises. Early on, Eric André pops up as Stuart Clarke, a tech specialist who has some serious difficulties getting liftoff for his chosen codename, Rampage. Later, we meet Alden Ehrenreich, who plays Joe McGillicuddy -- a suburban "Live, Laugh, Love" nerd who somehow has the funds and connections to maintain a secret bunker full of highly illegal weapons technology.
From the very beginning, it's clear that something's off about ol' Joe for the aforementioned reason, as well as the fact that it's Ehrenreich playing him. While the actor does a great job portraying Joe's meekness, nervous energy, and general social ineptitude, it's hard to shake off the feeling that you don't cast an actor with his pedigree -- the man played Han Solo once,...

The first heist and blackmailing scheme was a success, but it also put Riri (Dominique Thorne) in very real danger. In the process, she also has more questions about Parker (Anthony Ramos) than before. Working with criminals was maybe not the best idea for Riri, but “We in Danger, Girl” makes that clear. While Ironheart has been promised to audiences since Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, the MCU slowed down its production speeds drastically over the last few years. With Ryan Coogler’s support and Chinaka Hodge serving as the creator, Ironheart finally makes its way to Disney+. Moving Riri Williams (Dominique Thorne) to Chicago and giving us a peek at her life away from Wakanda provides us with a chance to reset. William Stanford Davis is "just surprised at how far they'll go sometimes" as you are when it comes to the unexpected details of his Abbott Elementary character Mr. Johnson’s life that the writers feature in every script. In Season 4, for example, Mr. Johnson showed up to school dressed as "Emo Jimmy Butler" for Halloween and busted out singing the Oscar-winning "It’s Hard Out Here for a Pimp" at faculty karaoke night.
"What I really love about him is his mystery. You don’t know what he’s going to do next, and you don’t know what his experiences are," Davis tells Gold Derby.
Four seasons into Abbott Elementary, Davis has plenty of thoughts as to why Mr. Johnson continues to love his job as the reliable — and reliably unpredictable — janitor. "He keeps the school spick and span. I went to a school that was like that, and...

After losing its original directors, Legendary and Capcom's live-action Street Fighter reboot is moving forward with Kitao Sakurai (Bad Trip) at the helm, and the casting process recently got underway.
Now, Jeff Sneider is reporting that the movie is looking to add some more star power in the form of Walton Goggins, who is in talks to play the villainous leader of Shadaloo, M. Bison. Singer Orville Peck is also on board as blade-handed narcissist Vega, and comedian Eric André will play "the loud-mouthed ring announcer who hypes up the crowd."
Goggins has numerous film and TV roles on his résumé, but has been garnering more mainstream acclaim and attention thanks to recent roles in Fallout and season 3 of The White Lotus (and let's not forget about Uncle Baby Billy from The Righteous Gemstones).

Falloutfavorite Walton Goggins might be about to swap the wasteland for the streets, as he is reportedly in talks to play M Bison, one of the leading antagonists in Legendary's live-action Street Fighterreboot, based on Capcom's popular video game series of the same name. The character was memorably played by Raul Julia in the 1994 film adaptation, which marked the actor's last major screen appearance before his untimely death. As one of the franchise's biggest baddies, whoever stepped into the role was always going to have big shoes to fill.
Well-known industry scooper Jeff Sneider claimed in his newsletter that Goggins is currently in negotiations to don the cloak of the Shadaloo leader in the forthcoming Street Fighter film. The actor previously earned acclaim for his role as Cooper "The Ghoul" Howard in Fallout, which takes place after the events of the video games and has just wrapped Season 2. He...

While critics may raise their eyebrows at Happy Gilmore returning for another adventure, that might not be the case with fans. I am excited to see Adam Sandler back in the golf field with his over-the-top antics. Netflix released the trailer of Happy Gilmore 2 at a Tudum presentation as a surprise for fans. As much as I am excited for the film, there’s one thing bugging me about the film’s trailer.
The trailer is set as a tribute to the previous film, filled with easter eggs from the 1996 outing. What worries me is that the film would end up as fan service rather than an original film like its predecessor. Julie Bowen, Christopher McDonald, Blake Clark, and Ben Stiller are returning for the sequel.

Adam Sandler’s Happy Gilmore is hitting the green nearly three decades later to stage a golf comeback, and he’s bringing along a cavalcade of stars in the official trailer for Happy Gilmore 2.
“Even when you’re at the top of your game, you can always shank one,” the failed-hockey-player-turned-golf-pro says, setting the scene for the challenges ahead. In the sequel, Gilmore needs to raise $300,000 for his daughter’s (played by real life daughter Sunny Sandler) ballet school tuition, so he decides to take another swing at golf for the tournament cash.

Before we get too far into this, know this article does not only deal with a future John Cena vehicle, but one that also involves the excellent Eric André. You might know André from his volume of voice work, including Netflix's Disenchantment, or his weird but entertaining self-titled series. Or maybe playing Lyle Lissons on season two of Righteous Gemstones.
In other words, Little Brother, a new film in production at Netflix, will be watchable beyond Cena. The film is a comedy, and Cena has a good sense of humor and should be a good fit, but how he plays off of André should be gold.
This is especially true as the film now has a director who should be excellent for the movie. Matt Spicer has been named to fill that position and has a history of creating gems from lower-budget projects. If you haven't seen his work,...

Vince Vaughn is cooking up a plan to share other families’ cherished recipes in the trailer for Netflix’s movie Nonnas.
Stephen Chbosky directed the fact-based comedy feature that begins streaming May 9. Rounding out the cast are Linda Cardellini, Lorraine Bracco, Talia Shire, Brenda Vaccaro, Joe Manganiello and Campbell Scott.
Nonnas centers on Joe Scaravella, who decides to alter his life path by starting an Italian restaurant that hires Italian grandmothers, aka “nonnas,” as the chefs. The story is based on the real-life Scaravella, the owner of Staten Island eatery Enoteca Maria and author of the 2015 cookbook Nonna’s House.
“I want them to make the dishes that they were passed on from their family,” Vaughn says in the trailer. “I want to share it with everybody.”
Later in the footage, Sarandon tells Vaughn, “The only thing that you’re gonna regret are the moments that you did not take.

Kieran Culkin’s Oscar-winning role in Jesse Eisenberg’s A Real Pain almost belonged to a different, and unexpected, actor: comedian Eric André.
As per Deadline, in a recent episode of the Whiskey Ginger podcast, André revealed: "Two years ago Jesse Eisenberg calls me, offered me the role that Kieran Culkin got the Oscar for. I was like, that seems really miserable and not in my lane. I read the script, I was like, to go to Poland for six weeks and shoot a movie where we’re just babbling about the Holocaust seems like a bummer."

Eric André said he was originally offered the role of Benji Kaplan in Jesse Eisenberg’s A Real Pain, the part that would later earn Kieran Culkin the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor.

A Real Pain (point) for Eric André is missing out on the eventually Oscar-winning role taken on by Kieran Culkin in Jesse Eisenberg’s moving drama, about two cousins journeying through Poland while learning about their family roots and the Holocaust.

There are a ton of stories about actors who almost played a character that became wildly famous for some reason or another. Michael Douglas almost played famed explorer Christopher Columbus in a Ridley Scott film. Val Kilmer almost played resistance leader Morpheus in "The Matrix." And now we have another fun one to add to the mix: gonzo comedian and prankster Eric André was offered the very role that made "Succession" actor Kieran Culkin an Academy Award winner.
In an interview with comedian Andrew Santino on his Whiskey Ginger podcast, Andre revealed that "A Real Pain" writer and director Jesse Eisenberg had reached out to offer him the role of Benjamin "Benji" Kaplan in his Holocaust tour buddy dramedy. Andre turned it down, and Culkin ultimately tackled the role of the free-spirited but broken-hearted Benji, who is using the trip as a way to say goodbye to his beloved recently deceased grandmother.

The planned Street Fighter movie is sliding into limbo, while Phoebe Dynevor’s shark thriller is set to make a splash a bit later than planned.
Sony Pictures has removed Legendary’s Street Fighter film off of its theatrical release calendar after having previously scheduled it for March 20, 2026. Based on the popular video game franchise, the project is co-developed and produced with Capcom and had not yet announced its cast.
The Hollywood Reporter reported last month that Kitao Sakurai, who directed Netflix’s Eric André-led comedy feature Bad Trip from 2021, was set to direct the video game adaptation. Directors Danny and Michael Philippou (Talk to Me) had been attached to a previous iteration of the project. Sony and Legendary’s distribution pact ended last year.
Additionally, Tommy Wirkola’s shark feature that stars Dynevor is now titled Shiver after having previously gone by Beneath the Storm. The Sony film...

Former “Impractical Jokers” star Joe Gatto has issued a response after a woman posted a sexual assault allegation against the 48-year-old comedian over TikTok on Thursday.
“I have used poor judgment and as a result have violated the trust of the people I love most,” Gatto said in a statement. “But anyone who knows me at all knows full well that I wouldn’t assault anyone. Working on myself is an ongoing process, and I am now going to take some time away from the public eye to focus my energies where I need to.”
Gatto was a founding member of truTV’s hit prank show “Impractical Jokers,” costarring alongside James Murray, Brian Quinn and Sal Vulcano. Starting in 2011, Gatto appeared in 244 episodes as well as “Impractical Jokers: The Movie” until his departure from the series in 2021.
“Sorry in advance for the long and more-serious-than-usual note below, I just wanted...

Fans of the mind-bending thriller Severance know Britt Lower as Helly R, a character whose struggle against the dystopian Lumon Industries has made her one of television's most riveting leads. Yet before she got severed, Lower approached another style of surrealism in one of the best romantic comedy shows of the 2010s, if not ever: Man Seeking Woman.
Playing overachieving attorney Liz, sister to main character Josh Greenberg (Jay Baruchel), Lower demonstrated her on-the-nose comedic timing and range that would later make her a standout in Severance. She described the show to TV Insider this way: "This show is kind of like waking up inside of a dream, and you’re not sure if it’s going to be a fantasy dream or if it’s going to be a total nightmare, and oftentimes, it’s both." She also detailed her character in the show:
