Sam Ghosh (born January 27, 1984) is an Indian-American actor, director, writer, musician, and dancer. In his most recent role, he portrayed a homeless subway Busker, mute Bulgarian clown Bobo, and a groovy Indian musician and prankster Bunty in Long Wharf Theatre's production of Aditi Brennan Kapil's Agnes Under the Big Top, directed by Eric Ting. He also composed the music of Agnes Under the Big Top alongside talented musician, Katie Down.

On May 6th, 2011, Ghosh's leading debut feature, Anything For You, released in multiplexes in several cities in India including: Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai, and Ahmedabad.

Early Life

Ghosh was born Swamrit Ghosh in Jamshedpur, Jharkhand, India to father Ashok Kumar Ghosh, a chemist, and mother Ravi Swarajyam, a stenographer. After moving to the US at six months old, he lived with his family in Buffalo, New York for the first three years of his life, but eventually moved to Wayne, New Jersey.

Ghosh attended Wayne Hills High School and left his mark there as the Drum Major of the marching band and Director of the percussion ensemble. He was recognized with the nationwide symbol of excellence, the John Philip Sousa Award, for his dedication and superior musicianship. He graduated from the school in 2002 and began attending Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken, New Jersey the same year. On campus, Ghosh hosted the largest shows, directed the dance organization Pulse, and produced his own films under his production label 5AM Productions. In the summer of his sophomore year, while serving an internship as a Network/Server Technician, Ghosh decided to try his hand at acting. He read a "how-to" acting book, had a family friend take headshots in a local park, and after work one day, commuted two hours to a casting call in New York City with a self-written monologue. This audition formed Ghosh's NYC stage debut as the lead role in The South Asian Monologues at Cami Hall and Center Stage NY.

While pursuing a degree in Business and Technology at Stevens, Ghosh trained extensively with Terry Knickerbocker at William Esper Studio. He continued to pursue acting projects, beat-boxed with Hindi/English a cappella group NY Masti, and worked as a Production Assistant with some of the biggest names in the Indian film industry (a.k.a. Bollywood) on New York City film sets. Upon graduation, he was offered a high-paying consulting job, but ultimately he declined the offer to pursue his passion for acting full-time.

Career

After dancing in a club alongside Rosario Dawson in This Revolution, being the lead actor in India's "Prince of Bhangra" Sukhbir's music video Turn, and having ice cold water splashed on his naked body as the dead brother of a terrorist in The War Within's deleted scene, Ghosh developed a comedic short about the significant impact something that seems trivial can make. The script eventually became 5AM Productions' Faith in a Wrapper, acted, produced, directed, and edited by Ghosh, and received the Boken Film Festival Award for Best Film.

Ghosh has been known to choose a wide variety of film roles which suit and represent his stylish and versatile personality, from his portrayal of a Iraqi taking vengeance for the loss of his family in low budget experimental film Last Son of Saddam, to a bullied homosexual on the courts of Astoria Park, an award-winning short for Outstanding Cast Performance at the Action on Film Festival; from a fresh-off-the-boat office assistant by day and drug dealer from Brooklyn by night in web series Who the Hell is Dan Bruder, to neurotic doctor trying to balance between saving his marriage and figuring out a reincarnated love in New York Talkies' feature Anything For You, which released in five cities in the U.S. in April of 2010 and hit multiplexes in India on May 6th, 2011.

Among theatre roles, Ghosh played the easily excitable servant Fofatlal in Desipina's musical Soonderella as a part of Seven.11 Convenience Theater at Centerstage and angry Indian immigrant Yusef Khan in Coney Island Avenue at the New York Theatre Workshop. Entry Level, a documentary about Ghosh's acting career along with four other recent college graduates, has been screened at the Asian Pacific American Film Festival in DC. Ghosh has appeared on "CW11 Morning News" as a guest host and has been a regular contributor on "AVS," the infamous Saturday morning Indian show.
