X-Men '97 Season 2 Will Explore Apocalypse's Backstory Teases By Ross Marquand
Image
X-Men '97 star Ross Marquand teases the backstory of his villainous character in the upcoming installment. The series acted as a sequel to the beloved X-Men: The Animated Series from the '90s and was a huge hit with critics and audiences. Marquand played the role of Professor Charles Xavier, and in the X-Men '97 season 1 finale, appeared as the villain Apocalypse.

X-Men '97 ended with characters in different points of time, with some finding the mutant En Sabah Nur in ancient Egypt before he would adopt the moniker of Apocalypse. He is also seen in a post-credits scene hinting that the deceased Gambit will become the Horseman of Death. The upcoming X-Men '97 season 2 will see the characters all trying to get back to the present.

In an interview with ScreenRant for his sci-fi thriller Descendent, Marquand teases as much as he can about season 2. As Marquand also plays Xavier,...

Exclusive ‘Descendent’ Clip Reveals A Terrifying Alien Abduction
Descendent (2025)
In his feature film debut, Descendent, writer and director Peter Cilella tackles a subject that I personally wish we had more of in contemporary horror: alien abductions. Read the full synopsis below:

Set in present-day Los Angeles, Descendent follows Sean Bruner, a school security guard who is haunted by childhood trauma while preparing for the birth of his first child with his wife, Andrea. After a beam of light appears in the sky during a late-night shift, Sean wakes up in the hospital with an inexplicable talent for vivid, unsettling drawings of extraterrestrials and desert landscapes. As his visions blur the line between dreams and reality, Sean’s grip on sanity unravels. With time running out, he must confront his fears to...

Image
Matthew Rhys is officially voicing Dinosaurus in Invincible. Fans had been wondering who he was playing since his casting was first teased, and now Robert Kirkman has confirmed it.

Speaking during his panel at San Diego Comic-Con 2025, the creator of the show shared that Rhys will be bringing the dangerous and unpredictable Dinosaurus to life in the upcoming season.

The Fate of 'Invincible' Has Already Been Decided Ahead of Season 4
Image
Although Invinciblefans are still waiting for a release date for Season 4 and recovering from the insane ending to Season 3, the series has gotten a big, if somewhat expected, update. Prime Video announced that Robert Kirkman's bloody superhero story is officially coming back for Season 5, bringing the creator one step closer to an eight-season adaptation of his original comic book. Alongside the renewal came a fun behind-the-scenes video showing the cast, led by Steven Yeun, back in the booth and having a blast while recording. It also confirms that all the voice work is already done, teeing up another relatively quick return after Season 4 closes.

"Season f—ing five. You know what that's called? A success," Walton Gogginsopens the video with, touting the universal acclaim Invincible has had so far. It's rare that a streaming series, let alone an animated one, reaches five seasons nowadays, but the story of Mark Grayson...

Marvel Has Big Plans for This Avengers Villain In Future Projects (Rumor)
Image
One of the Avengers' biggest MCU villains reportedly has a big future ahead after his upcoming return. The Avengers have faced three major villains so far in the MCU in Loki, Ultron, and Thanos, with Doctor Doom set to join that exclusive club in 2026. Out of that bunch, Ultron is the only one to have appeared just once in the MCU (excluding the Infinity Ultron Variant found in What If...?). Fortunately, that is about to change next year as The Blacklist actor James Spader will reprise his Avengers: Age of Ultron villain in Disney+'s Vision Quest.

According to scooper Daniel Richtman (via Cosmic Marvel), Marvel Studios is planning for Ultron to return in multiple MCU projects after his role in Vision Quest. While the 2026 Disney+ series will mark Ultron's first appearance in the main MCU timeline since 2015's Avengers: Age of Ultron, the studio clearly has big plans for...

MCU Star Recalls Entering 'Avengers' Production Without Knowing It Was Marvel
Image
Ross Marquand, the impressionist and star of The Walking Dead, has recalled his time in the MCU. Marquand is not exactly a prominent figure among the other cast members of the Avengers movies, but he actually had a pivotal yet brief part in the franchise as Red Skull in Infinity War and Endgame. However, as he recently revealed, it was a part that he found out he was playing after arriving on set and being overwhelmed by the scale of the massive superhero project.

As reported by Comic Book, Marquand appeared at Awesome Con 2025 and talked about his short-lived part in the MCU. In Avengers:Infinity War and Endgame, Marquand replaced Hugo Weaving as the performer behind Red Skull, the vicious villain who first appeared in 2011's Captain America: The First Avenger. It was a project so secretive that when Marquand signed up, he didn't even realize he was going to...

That Time Marvel Recast a Major Villain Role, And The Actor Didn't Know Until They Arrived On Set
Image
Marvel Studios is known for working very hard to prevent set leaks from its various projects. The secrecy is so intense that one Marvel Cinematic Universeactor was unaware that he was in the film until he arrived on set.

Speaking during a panel at Awesome Con 2025, Ross Marquand, who took over the Red Skull role from Hugo Weaving in Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame, said he was clueless about the project until he arrived on set. "I didn't know what movie I was going to work on," he explained via ComicBook. "They didn't tell me. They quite literally said it was a voice-matching job that may entail voice-matching this character that Hugo [Weaving] played, but they didn't even say that by name."

"It wasn't until I got to the set that they made me shave and put the [motion capture] dots on," Marquand recalled. "I'm looking around, there's like a 150 people waiting for me.

Descendent Review: Alien Ambiguity Meets Fatherhood Angst
Descendent (2025)
Peter Cilella’s Descendent opens at the intersection of manhood and the unknown: a Los Angeles school roof at midnight, where security guard Sean Bruner (Ross Marquand) encounters a burst of phosphorescent spheres. Written and directed by Cilella, the film threads psychological drama with low-key science fiction—what one might call “domesday domesticity”.

Sean is days away from becoming a father alongside his partner, Andrea (Sarah Bolger), whose calm assurance masks her own trepidation. Suddenly, a bright beam sends him tumbling into a hospital bed, brain bruised and memory fractured.

The film’s tone oscillates between tender family moments and moments of primal disquiet: a sudden savant-like talent for sketching alien forms, inexplicable whispers echoing through walls, and visions of reptilian eyes in strangers’ faces.

This is not a hunting-alien thriller (no quick kill-shots here), nor a straight marriage drama—Cilella suspends us between two realities. What begins as a...

The Walking Dead star thinks this brutal death lost the show a lot of fans
Image
AMC’s seminal hit horror The Walking Dead ran for an incredible 11 seasons and has spawned six spinoffs. However, it’s no secret that the flagship show had a fairly dramatic drop in viewership in its later seasons, and one of the former stars thinks he knows why.

Ross Marquand, who played kind Alexandrian Aaron starting in the fifth season of The Walking Dead, talked about the pivotal moment during the Ross Marquand Spotlight Panel at AwesomeCon recently. During his Q&a, Marquand discussed the single episode that he believes did the most damage.

Talking about season 7’s opening episode, “The Day Will Come When You Won't Be”, Marquand discussed the iconic and gory scene where beloved character Glenn Rhee (Steven Yeun) is violently and graphically murdered by bad guy Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan):

I will say that was the episode that we lost a lot of fans, I think,...

“[It] Can Go On and On”: ‘The Walking Dead’ Boss Thinks the Franchise Could Extend to 2040
Image
The future of The Walking Dead franchise just got an interesting update from executive Scott. M Gimple. Based on the series of graphic novels by Robert Kirkman, Tony Moore, and Charlie Adlard, The Walking Dead first hit the air in 2010 and ran until 2022. However, that didn’t mark the end of the franchise, as spin-offs such asThe Ones Who Live, Fear the Walking Dead, Dead City, and Daryl Dixon have all aired just in the last few years. Gimple recently caught up with Games Radar to talk about the future of The Walking Dead franchise, and although it’s been around for 15 years now, he seems confident that it could go for another 15 and extend into 2040 and beyond:

"I do see that potential. The Walking Dead is about compelling characters in an unforgiving world, but one that is not without hope. Because the stakes are so high, the choices these...

'Avengers: Endgame' Red Skull Actor Pitches 'Captain America' Disney Series
Image
Despite some of its low points in recent memory, the Marvel Cinematic Universe also has plenty of benefits, thanks to the interconnected nature of most of its projects. Characters that audiences sometimes don't expect to return come back and add thematic weight to a film or television show in exciting new ways. One such character was Red Skull, who returned in Avengers: Endgame after not showing up for almost a decade following his mysterious disappearance in Captain America: The First Avenger. Now, the actor who played the villain wants to reprise the role again in a new project.

During an interview with ScreenRant, actor Ross Marquand (who took over the role from Hugo Weaving) was asked if he'd considered returning as Red Skull. Marquand's response was surprisingly more in-depth than expected, as he revealed that he has been campaigning for a Captain America limited series on Disney+ to continue the...

The Entire Invincible Timeline Explained
Image
Amazon Prime Video's "Invincible" has become one of the most beloved superhero series ever made. Based on the Image Comics series by Robert Kirkman, Cory Walker, and Ryan Ottley, it tells a familiar story of capes and costumes but with a unique willingness to explore how people in such a world might behave and grow over time.

Even just three seasons in, the show's chronology has become incredibly complicated, technically spanning from the dawn of man through to some distant potential future with a mad king (and this is before we address the various alternate realities introduced in season 2). As we await the arrival of season 4 sometime next year, we've taken another look at the series as a whole to piece together the story so far. Grab your Burger Mart, cause this might take a bit. This is the entire "Invincible" timeline, explained.

Every 'Walking Dead' Actor Who Appeared in the MCU
Image
As of March 2025, there are seven different series in The Walking Dead franchise. There are currently 35 movies and 12 television shows in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. As many actors as there may be, there was bound to be some overlap sooner or later. Still, we were not expecting there to be this many. This is a rundown of all the actors that are not afraid to do capes and carnage.

Be warned, this article contains major spoilers for both universes.

Lauren Ridloff ("Makkari" and "Connie")

Lauren Ridloff starred as Makkari in Marvel's Eternals, the 2021 film about a band of immortal guardians directed by Oscar-winning director Chloe Zhao. As Makkari, who has the power of superspeed, Ridloff made history as the first deaf actor to portray a superhero in the MCU. While there are no active plans for an Eternals sequel, the post-credits scene suggested a future for Makkari, specifically.

‘Descendent’ Review: A Security Guard Unravels After Experiencing a Close Encounter in Effective Suspense Drama
Image
When Richard Dreyfuss walked onto the Mothership at the end of “Close Encounters of the Third Kind,” it was just about the first time — and also nearly the last — that a movie hero voluntarily went on any such ride. More familiar notes of terror and disorientation come with the UFO territory of Peter Cilella’s “Descendent.” It has “The Walking Dead’s” Ross Marquand as a working-class Southern Californian whose world comes unglued once he suffers an apparent alien abduction. Occupying the slippery-reality realm of “Jacob’s Ladder,” this effective first feature, debuting at SXSW, limns its protagonist’s unraveling with suspenseful skill.

But those expecting straightforward sci-fi horror may resent the writer-director’s insistence on sticking to an ambiguity, played somewhere between the narrative models of “Communion” and “Mysterious Skin.” Cilella never fully resolves whether our protagonist is, indeed, the victim of extraterrestrial meddling or instead suffering delusions triggered by delayed childhood-trauma memories,...

SXSW 2025 Review: Descendent, A Father-to-Be's Alien Abduction Exposes Male Anxieties
Image
One night while on patrol at his job as late-night security for an elementary school, soon-to-be father Sean (Ross Marquand) spots strange floating lights in the sky. As they flit around, he marvels, then when he goes to change a flickering bulb, he suddenly finds himself inside what appears to be an alien ship, strapped to a table, bound by a gauzy weblike substance as unknown entities study him. Next thing he knows he’s in the hospital being told that he fell from the roof of the school and is suffering from a traumatic brain injury. But Sean knows what he saw, and it will haunt him until he figures it all out. In Peter Cilella’s Descendent, the anxiety of impending fatherhood is explored through...

‘Descendent’ Review: A Lo-Fi Sci-Fi Drama Hybrid That Lives in the Shadow of Its Predecessors
Image
With founders Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead, masterminds of such low-budget horror as “Resolution,” “Spring,” and “The Endless,” now entrenched in the Marvel machine, their Rustic Films is calling in the reserves. “Descendent” writer/director Peter Cilella has been involved with multiple Rustic productions as an actor, going all the way back to “Resolution” in 2012. Now, he’s the latest member of the Los Angeles-based production company’s roster — he’s preceded by Michael Felker, whose “Things Will Be Different” debuted under the Rustic banner last year — to get his turn in the big chair, so to speak.

At the film’s SXSW premiere, Cilella described his feature directorial debut as being about “depression, anxiety, and aliens.” And the film’s priorities do unfold in that order. There’s also some soul-searching about what it means to be a man in contemporary America, a topic that’s too often hijacked...

Black Widow Star Scarlett Johansson Has A Blunt Response To Marvel Return Rumors
Image
Based on the fact that her character Natasha Romanoff — also known as the Black Widow — very obviously died in 2019's epic "Avengers: Endgame," you would think that, at this point, Scarlett Johansson would stop getting asked about a potential return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. You would be wrong, though, especially considering the fact that Robert Downey Jr. is returning to the cinematic universe despite the fact that Tony Stark also died in "Endgame." With Downey Jr. set to play Doctor Doom in "Avengers: Doomsday" and "Avengers: Secret Wars," which are slated to release in 2026 and 2027 as of this writing, it's actually not surprising that people are bugging Johansson to return as Natasha. But as the actor clarified in a profile for InStyle, Natasha Romanoff is very most sincerely dead.

Speaking to interview Jason Sheeler for the magazine in March 2025, Johansson was blunt about the idea of coming back to the MCU.

Invincible Season 3 Revealed Jonathan Banks' Character (And It's Not Who You Expect)
Image
The following contains spoilers for "Invincible" season 3, episode 7.

We know, we're surprised too. Like many fans of the "Invincible" comics, we took one look at the snaggle-faced, dead-eyed Viltrumite enforcer Conquest and thought, "Jonathan Banks, your time has come." Imagine our surprise, then, when we tuned in for the penultimate episode of the "Invincible" TV show's third season, only to hear the voice of Mike Ehrmantraut coming out of a good guy fighting in the Invincible War instead.

Titled "What Have I Done?" (fittingly enough), the episode sees Cecil (Walton Goggins) calling in help from around the globe to fight the twisted Invincible variants knocking at the doorstep. While they're out and about flipping the joint that is planet Earth, the Director of the Global Defense Agency is shown talking to Brit, a brand new hero to the "Invincible" show, but a legend in the bloody and often bizarro comics...

The 12 Strongest Invincible Characters Ranked
Image
We may receive a commission on purchases made from links.

With dramatic action and sky-high emotional stakes, its no wonder why Amazon Prime Video's "Invincible" has become one of the popular superhero TV shows of all time. Based on the comic book series by Robert Kirkman, Ryan Ottley, and Cory Walker, the series has expertly adapted Mark Grayson's (Steven Yeun) morally tumultuous journey toward mastering his powers and growing into the man he's meant to be.

But as one might expect, that growth comes with more power -- and even more powerful enemies. These are the 12 strongest characters in Invincible, ranked (but be warned that major spoilers for the comics lie below).

The Immortal

The weakest of the strongest "Invincible" characters is the Immortal (Ross Marquand), a 3,000-plus-year-old super-man who (essentially) cannot die. In addition to enhanced physical attributes,...

Is ‘Invincible’ Already Hinting at These Two Characters Becoming a Couple?
Image
Editor's Note: The following contains spoilers for Invincible Season 3, Episode 6.The current season of Invincibleis bringing in multiple plot points from the first two seasons to a head, while retaining the same sense of emotional catharsis and bloody violence that made it a standout in the superhero landscape. It's also seeing a few romantic relationships blossoming. Invincible (Steven Yeun) and Atom Eve (Gillian Jacobs) finally acted on their long-smoldering romantic feelings for each other. The Immortal (Ross Marquand) proposed to Dupli-Kate (Malese Jow). Even the villains find love: Season 3's "You Wanted A Real Costume, Right?" opens with a silent montage of former criminals Tether Tyrant and Magmaniac attempting to walk the straight and narrow road before circumstances forced them to return to villainy. There's one couple that the show is slowly bringing together, and it makes perfect sense:Rex Splode (Jason Mantzoukas) and Shrinking Rae (Grey Griffin).

One Key Invincible Season 3 Line Teases The Endgame For Mark Grayson
Image
This article contains spoilers for "Invincible."

"We're in the endgame now," declared Doctor Stephen Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) during "Avengers: Infinity War," signaling the final act of the 21st century's most famous superhero saga. "Invincible" isn't quite there yet; it's about 45% of the way through the original 144-issue Image comic series by Robert Kirkman, Cory Walker, and Ryan Ottley. However, the ongoing third season of "Invincible" has offered some hints of that endgame.

In the episode "You Were My Hero," Mark/Invincible travels far into the future and discovers his superhero comrade the Immortal (Ross Marquand) rules the planet as a king. The Immortal has gone mad from living too long; he doesn't quite realize that the Mark before him is from the past. Thus, he talks about events that Mark hasn't experienced yet; he mentions Mark getting sick, even though they found a cure for this disease, and claims Mark...

'Invincible' Just Hinted at an Earthshaking Storyline for Mark Grayson
Image
Editor's Note: The following contains spoilers for Invincible Season 3, Episode 4.One of the recurring ironies of Invincibleis that despite his superhero moniker, Mark Grayson (Steven Yeun) suffers blows that would be nearly fatal to anyone else; the superhuman strength, speed and endurance he inherited from his Viltrumite father Nolan (J.K. Simmons) keeps him going. Season 3 of Invincible is upgrading Mark's skills, to the point where he's been dubbed the most powerful superhero on the planet. However, this week's episode "You Used To Be My Hero" changes that. While attempting to go out on a "first date date" with his new girlfriend Atom Eve (Gillian Jacobs), Mark gets pulled into the future by twin revolutionaries, Drop Kick and Fightmaster (Xolo Maridueña). Drop Kick and Fightmaster say they need Invincible's help to defeat a power-mad tyrant who's conquered the planet; said tyrant is actually the Immortal (Ross Marquand).

Invincible season 3: The curse of immortality reveals itself
Image
During the three-episode premiere of Invincible, Mark Grayson (Invincible) and Eve Wilkins (Atom Eve) finally started dating. What could have been a disaster after Mark confessed to speaking to a future version of Eve ends with them becoming a couple. And while no one is shocked by this, it should also be certain that they’ll never have a normal relationship. That part is confirmed on their first date.

While Mark and Eve are at a table, a mysterious portal opens. Future freedom fighters, Dropkick and Fightmaster (voiced by Cobra Kai and Blue Beetle's Xolo Maridueña) come through and ask for Mark’s help. As expected, Invincible assists them. What isn’t expected (if you’ve never read the comics) is having to fight The Immortal to save the future.

Invincible featured some rather dark moments in its first three episodes, but the young superhero is starting to find his footing. Can Mark and Eve make an actual relationship work? Can they even survive without the help of Cecil and the Gda? “You Were My Hero” begins to answer some of these questions and opens up new ones. It also pushes us into the cosmos with a unique double episode. “You Were My Hero” combines incredible tragedy, sweet romance, and horrifying action in ways only Invincible can deliver.

Season 3 of Invincible is upon us, and luckily this season isn't split up like Season 2 was. Even so, it's been almost a year since Season 2 wrapped up. This can make it easy to forget where every character left off heading into Season 3. Especially for characters outside of Invincible and Omni-Man, such as the Guardians of the Globe.

The Guardians of the Globe, Earth's defense force that often partners with Invincible and occasionally Atom Eve, had a very rough Season 2. Many of the Guardians of the Globe found themselves on the brink of death, or in some cases presumed dead.

Invincible Season 3's Multi-Paul Is Voiced By A Marvel Movie Star
Image
The following contains spoilers for "Invincible" Season 3, Episode 1 (as well as potential spoilers for future episodes).

Time-travel, characters returning from the dead, and reanimated robot corpses? It's just business as usual so far in the third season of "Invincible," the fantastic adaptation of Robert Kirkman's epic superhero comic book series centering on Mark Grayson, aka Invincible (Steven Yeun), and his family. But while the "Invincible" voice cast was already stacked with impressive talent, this latest chapter steps things up a notch, adding a slew of new actors to the mix -- the kind that makes you snap and point at the screen like Leonardo DiCaprio when you realize who you're listening to.

In addition to featuring a vocal appearance by "Cobra Kai" star Xolo Maridueña (who drops in as both Dropkick and Fightmaster this week), the "Invincible" Season 3 premiere sees Mark going up against the (literal) one-man army of scorned ex-superheroes that is Multi-Paul.

Invincible Season 3, Episode 2 Pays Homage To The Show's Biggest Twist
Image
The following contains spoilers for "Invincible" Season 3, Episodes 2 and 3.

Following the gob-smacking events of "Invincible" Season 2, one of the best animated shows currently streaming is back for a third chapter in its signature blood-splattering fashion. After discovering that Cecil (Walton Goggins) has an army of ReAnimen at his disposal, Mark (Steven Yeun) quickly severs ties with his employer, though not before shredding Cecil's mindless drones like tissue paper first. Fueled by his anger and a desire to confront the Global Defense Agency director, Mark's actions serve as a violent, visceral, and explosive display of his power. His behavior is also unsettling for all who bear witness, echoing one of the most infamous and disturbing moments in the history of the "Invincible" universe.

Mark had already pummeled a wave of Cecil's undead army in his secret White Room, but after Rudy (Zachary Quinto/Ross Marquand) manages to switch off his implant,...
