- She was the class president of Lake Roosevelt High School in Coulee Dam, Washington and graduated as a the valedictorian in 1990. After high school, she attended the UNLV on a basketball scholarship where she played on the school's Lady Rebels womens basketball team. She was on the dean's list and graduated from UNLV with a bachelor's degree in English in 1994 and also earned her master's degree. In 2000, she received a law degree from Lewis and Clark School of Law in Portland, Oregon.
