Turning toward the radio industry, the Federal Communications Commission is looking into whether iHeartMedia is compelling artists perform at its upcoming country music festival for free or reduced pay in exchange for more favorable airplay.
FCC chairman Brendan Carr, in a letter to iHeartMedia CEO Robert Pittman on Monday, said that the inquiry relates to possible violations of government rules requiring broadcasters to disclose payments or other consideration for airing certain programming. Under the so-called “payola” rule, all sponsored arrangements must be identified.
“I want to know whether iHeart is effectively and secretly forcing musicians to choose between, one, receiving their usual, ordinary, and full scale compensation for performing or, two, receiving less favorable airplay on iHeart radio stations,” Carr wrote.
In a statement, iHeartMedia said it looks forward to “demonstrating to the Commission how performing at the iHeartCountry Festival – or declining to do so – has no bearing on our stations’ airplay,...

The American Idol producers made a huge mistake when they chose Carrie Underwood to replace Katy Perry as a judge because she would've been much better suited to host the show. Katy had judged American Idol for seven seasons alongside Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan, but she left the show in order to shift her focus back to her music career. Now American Idol season 4 winner and country music superstar Carrie will take her place on the judging panel.
American Idol season 23 is much-anticipated, not only because it's certain to introduce extraordinarily talented singers, but also because it's the first time since ABC revived the show in 2018 that there's a shakeup with the judging panel. One thing that hasn't changed since the show debuted in 2002, is the host, Ryan Seacrest. However, American Idol could use another change after over two decades on the air, and Carrie should've taken Ryan's place...

A year after Paula Abdul sued American Idol producer Nigel Lythgoe, the parties came to an agreement and settled the suit.
On December 30, 2023, we reported that Paula – who left American Idol back in 2009 – had filed suit against Nigel, claiming that he'd sexually assaulted her.
Paula's claims pertained not only to American Idol, but also So You Think You Can Dance?, where she was a judge until 2017, and we explained:
"Paula’s lawsuit claims Nigel assaulted her on several occasions while serving as a judge on both shows. She also says he 'verbally insulted and belittled' throughout their professional relationship.
"During one [alleged] encounter, the singer says that Lythgoe assaulted her in an elevator room while they were traveling to film auditions during an early season of American Idol. Paula says he pushed her against a wall before inappropriately touching her."

“Dancing with the Stars” premiered in 2005 with a focus on teaching celebrities some fancy footwork. Many of them returned to the show year after year, and over a dozen have won the coveted Mirror Ball Trophy over the course of the series. Scroll down to see every single “DWTS” pro champion, listed by their number of victories.

Dancing With the Stars pro Sharna Burgess competed on the beloved reality TV show from Seasons 16-30. One of her most memorable seasons was when she coupled up with radio personality Bobby Bones and took home the mirrorball trophy. Their win was extremely controversial as Bobby was not the best dancer. The show even changed some rules because of his win.
Throughout her seasons on DWTS, Sharna partnered up with celebrities like comedian Andy Dick, boy band member Nick Carter, and in her last season, the Australian native danced with her fianc, Brian Austin Green.
DWTS pros and their partners develop relatively good chemistry throughout their time working together. However, Sharna had one former partner that she recalled she couldn't even be in the same room with. Ouch!

A big reason reality talent competitions are so successful is because viewers love rooting for their favorite to win. Viewers love watching talented and deserving people achieve their dreams. It's especially meaningful when audiences feel a connection with a contestant from their audition to the very end of the show.
This is the kind of success Kelly Clarkson accomplished when she became the winner of the first season of American Idol.
However, fan bases can sometimes influence a reality show in the wrong way. Case in point, when radio host Bobby Bones won season 27 of Dancing with the Stars in 2018. Despite receiving low scores from the judges every week, Bones still took home the Mirror Ball trophy thanks to fans' ability to vote.

Dancing With the Stars Season 33 will air on September 17 on ABC, and like a few previous seasons, it has been met with much controversy. The show announced its brand-new lineup of celebrity contestants, and it consists of a variety of entertainers from Hollywood and the sports world. However, one contestant is getting attention for all the wrong reasons.
When viewers and fans alike learned that con artist and fraudster Anna Delvey (also known as Anna Sorokin) would be participating in the new season, it was met with mixed reactions. In 2019, Anna was convicted of 8 felony counts, including grand larceny and theft, after she faked being a wealthy German heiress. After her 2022 release from prison, Anna was taken into Ice custody because she overstayed her visa. However, as she fights her deportation rights, Anna must wear an ankle monitor, which stunned DWTS fans when the network released her cast photo.

Dancing With The Stars is readying itself to begin Season 33. Over the years, the show has seen a plethora of celebrities. The competition show pairs the celebrity contestant with a professional dancer and eliminates at least one couple every week until one couple is left to win the title and the mirrorball trophy. The show casts athletes, Bachelor Nation favorites, Olympians, actors and singers popular from years ago, those who have had controversy and need to fix their reputation and more.
However, despite DWTS being known for casting more C and D-list celebrities, more recently the show has gotten more popular stars. And just because they aren't popular right now doesn't mean they weren't ten years ago. Some of them have racked up a pretty impressive net worth, including their paychecks from the show.
While the pros have gained nobility over the years, the competition is really about the celebrities.

Remember how Chris Stapleton’s powerful video for “Fire Away” knocked viewers off their feet despite the country star barely appearing in the clip? Then say hello to “Think I’m in Love With You,” the singer’s jubilant new music video that depicts an afterlife full of family reunions and disco dancing — and features clever, blink-and-you’ll-miss-them cameos by Stapleton and his wife and singing partner, Morgane Stapleton.

Like any long-running reality TV show, Dancing With the Stars has had its fair share of controversy. For example, actor Cameron Mathison had to change professional dancers due to his wife's jealousy, contestant Bristol Palin revealed pro dancer Maks Chmerkovskiy hated her, and Bachelor Nation's Charity Lawson revealed she went "through hell and back" while competing because she experienced intense bullying online.
However, one extremely controversial DWTS moment that fans just can't seem to get over is when radio personality Bobby Bones won Season 27. Viewers truly believed that Bobby did not deserve the mirrorball trophy because he was a mediocre dancer at best. Despite this, Bobby was a fan-favorite and took home the top prize with his dancing pro partner Sharna Burgess.

Bobby Bones was one of the most controversial winners in Dancing With the Stars history.
The radio host dominated Season 27 of the hit competition series in 2018 despite struggling to outshine his competitors.
At the time, the viewer vote was decisive and helped Bobby emerge with the win.
Understandably, the show has revamped its format since then, but there are still some people who believe that Bobby should not have secured the coveted Mirrorball Trophy.
Julianne Hough, who is currently serving as a host alongside Alfonso Ribeiro, stopped by Watch What Happens Live and was asked whether there was a winner she “strongly disagreed” with.
When Micky Guyton said, “Bobby Bones,” Julianne agreed.
“Oh, I actually agree with you! And I think it’s because of the fanbase, right? It’s all about the fanbase on that show,” Hough said.

There have been a lot of deserving winners in the history of Dancing with the Stars, but there have also been a few questionable winners over the years whose victories left fans wondering what went wrong. Chief among them is season 27 winner Bobby Bones, who beat out Disney star Milo Manheim and Harry Potter actress Evanna Lynch to become the winner of the season despite being the lowest-scoring dancer in the finale.
His victory is one that still puzzles fans and it seems we’re not alone in feeling that Bones was the worst winner the show has seen over the years.
During the August 18 episode of Watch What Happens Live, host Andy Cohen asked 2-time Dancing with the Stars winning professional dancer turned host Julianne Hough if there has ever been a winner she strongly disagreed with. She at first took a moment of pause, but when fellow guest...

Former Dancing With the Stars champion Bobby Bones has fired back after criticisms of his 2018 victory made by long-time DWTS dancer and judge Julianne Hough. The drama started when Hough appeared on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen on August 18 alongside country singer Mickey Guyton. During the interview, a viewer asked if there were any former Mirrorball Trophy winners who Hough “strongly disagreed” with. Before she could answer, Guyton replied, “Bobby Bones,” who won the dancing competition series in 2018. Hough considered this for a moment before replying, “I actually agree with you, and I think it’s because of the fan base. It’s all about fan base on that show. He was not the best dancer.” Bones took to his Instagram page on Monday (August 19) to address the comments, admitting that he “takes pride” in being called the “worst dancer” in the show’s history. Hollywood whines there’s a lost moviegoing audience in the middle and southern part of the U.S. that the industry doesn’t make movies for.
Well, then make movies for them. That’s exactly what Universal, Warner Bros., and Amblin did in rebooting Twisters to a grand stateside start of $80M, an awesome 60% ahead of its $50M+ forecast.
Hooking the middle of the country with this movie about a weather phenomenon that impacts them frequently was, of course, an immediate priority here for Universal. The studio smartly attached Arkansas native and 2x Oscar nominated Minari filmmaker Lee Isaac Chung to paint a portrait of the folks he grew up with — a move that speaks to its yield at the weekend box office.
Universal was keen to promote the movie like an original, not relying on the 28-year-old property. The only character remaining from the first film was Dorothy, the weather machine.

Who will go home on “Dancing with the Stars” at the end of “A Celebration of Taylor Swift”? For weeks many “DWTS” fans have predicted “Too Hot to Handle” star Harry Jowsey for elimination in our predictions center, but for weeks they’ve been wrong. So perhaps we should consider that there will be another shocking ouster after the earlier-than-expected exits of celebs like Mira Sorvino and Lele Pons in past weeks. Perhaps that surprise will be at the expense of one-time Mirror Ball Trophy front-runner Charity Lawson.
The “Bachelorette” star isn’t the most likely to go home tonight according to our odds, though. As of this writing it actually looks like a close call between “Buffy” and “How I Met Your Mother” star Alyson Hannigan and — you guessed it — Harry Jowsey. Hannigan is the most likely to exit, getting leading odds of 2/1. She had a ballroom breakthrough on “Music Video Night,...

Going into tonight’s “Music Video Night” on “Dancing with the Stars,” three celebrities appear to be at the greatest risk of elimination: “Too Hot to Handle” star Harry Jowsey, “Buffy” and “How I Met Your Mother” alum Alyson Hannigan and “Brady Bunch” veteran actor Barry Williams. That’s according to the combined predictions of “DWTS” fans who have placed their bets here in our predictions center since last week. Make or update your own forecasts before tonight’s show.

Cheryl Burke is weighing in on the comments her former “Dancing With the Stars” fellow pro dancer Sharna Burgess recently made about difficult dance partners.
Burke — who has been promoting her new iHeartRadio podcast “Sex, Lies, and Spray Tans” — spoke to Et Canada’s Sangita Patel, insisting anyone wanting to know who her “least favourite” partner was would have to tune in to her podcast.
She did say “he’s a male” when asked for a hint.
“I mean, she made it pretty obvious, right? Like she did say after she won with Bobby Bones, so, I mean, you guys just need to Google it.”
The star then said of Burgess’ comments, which people have assumed are about Jesse Metcalfe: “She’s actually going to be my next guest. I’m interviewing her at the iHeart Music Festival in Vegas very soon in a few days here. Her and...

Not everyone is excited about the new cast of “Dancing With the Stars.” Following Wednesday’s announcement of the pros and celebrities set to compete on Season 32, former cast member Sharna Burgess expressed his disappointment in the casting of Adrian Peterson.
“There’s one person that I’d like to share that I’m really shocked is on there is Adrian Peterson, the football player… The man has been charged with child abuse of his four-year-old son in the way that he punishes him and that is just devastating for me,” Burgess said during the latest episode of iHeartRadio’s “Old-ish” podcast. “I’m telling you now if I walked into a room and that was my partner, I would turn around and walk right out. There is no way — now being a mother — I would be able to stomach that.”
The NFL running back has a history of legal woes.

“Last season I was supposed to come back but Zane was only eight weeks old… It just felt like I needed to sit in motherhood with Zane,” she revealed.
The 38-year-old recently joined her husband and former “90210” star Brian Austin Green for an intimate discussion on the first episode of their new iHeart Radio podcast, “Old-Ish“.
“Old-Ish” sees Burgess and Green, who began dating in 2020 and then married in 2022, openly discussing life’s challenges with their long-time friend and new life coach, Randy Spelling.
