Victorious Spinoff Series in the Works at Nickelodeon With 1 Returning Star
Image
The Nickelodeon sitcom Victorious is getting a spinoff series featuring one original star. The news comes after the original show ended its run on Nickelodeon 12 years ago.

Originally, Victorious ran for four seasons between 2010 and 2013. Per Deadline, it now has a second spinoff in development with Daniella Monet set to reprise her role as Trina Vega. The project is in development under the working title Hollywood Arts, which could end up changing. Casting is now said to be underway to find co-stars for Monet, and as of now, no other cast members from Victorious are reported as being involved. It would seem that special appearances are not out of the question, but nothing is confirmed.

‘Victorious’ Spinoff ‘Hollywood Arts’ in Development at Nickelodeon
Image
A new “Victorious” spinoff is in the works at Nickelodeon, TheWrap has learned.

The network is in the midst of developing a series centered on Trina Vega (Daniella Monet), the older sister of “Victorious” lead Tori (Victoria Justice). Its working title, “Hollywood Arts,” is a reference to the fictitious performing arts high school featured in “Victorious.”

If it receives an official greenlight from Nickelodeon, the comedy will follow Monet’s Trina as she returns to Hollywood Arts High School as a teacher. In addition to leading the series, Monet is also attached as an executive producer alongside writers Samantha Martin and Jake Farrow, the latter of whom previously worked as a writer and producer on both “Victorious” and its first spinoff “Sam & Cat.”

Monet and fellow “Victorious” co-star Avan Jogia posted about “Hollywood Arts” on their respective Instagram Stories on Thursday. Jogia wrote that he “could not be happier” for Monet,...

‘Victorious’ Trina Vega Spinoff ‘Hollywood Arts’ Starring Daniella Monet in Development at Nickelodeon
Image
“Victorious” has another spinoff in the works, with Daniella Monet set to reprise her role as Trina Vega in a multi-cam Nickelodeon comedy with the working title “Hollywood Arts,” Variety has confirmed.

The series, which is in development and has not yet been greenlit, will follow Trina as she returns to her old stomping grounds to teach students at the fictional Los Angeles performing arts high school. It would mark the second spinoff of “Victorious,” following “Sam & Cat,” starring Jennette McCurdy and Ariana Grande.

Casting is underway for the spinoff, and it’s unclear whether any other “Victorious” stars — including Victoria Justice — will reprise their roles in “Hollywood Arts.”

Monet, who starred in all four seasons of “Victorious” as the older sister to Justice’s Tori Vega, will executive produce the spinoff alongside Jake Farrow (who was a writer-producer on “Victorious” and “Sam & Cat”) and Samantha Martin.

‘Victorious’ Trina Vega Spinoff ‘Hollywood Arts’ Starring Daniella Monet In Works At Nickelodeon
Image
Exclusive: The Victorious universe is eying further expansion with a second spinoff series, Hollywood Arts (working title). Starring Daniella Monet, who will reprise her role as Trina Vega, the multi-camera comedy is in fast-track development at Nickelodeon, with early casting getting underway, sources tell Deadline.

Produced by Nickelodeon, Hollywood Arts follows Trina returning to her old stomping grounds as the newest teacher at Hollywood’s most elite performing arts school.

Monet serves as an executive producer alongside writers/executive producers Jake Farrow — who was a writer-producer on both Victorious and offshoot Sam & Cat and also voiced Robbie’s puppet Rex Powers on Victorious — and Samantha Martin (Nick’s Henry Danger and The Fairly OddParents: Fairly Odder).

Victorious creator Dan Schneider, who parted ways with Nickelodeon in 2018, has no involvement in the spinoff. His Nick tenure has been under scrutiny, including in the docuseries Quiet On Set whose producers he is suing for defamation.

Ted Season 2: Cast, Story & Everything We Know
Image
After two hit films, Ted has returned in his very own TV series on Peacock, and now the foul-mouthed teddy bear is back for a second season. Based on the aforementioned movies by comedy hit-maker Seth MacFarlane, the Ted TV show serves as a prequel to the films in which audiences follow a teenage John and his best buddy Ted as they try to navigate high school together. Being a streaming exclusive, the series can recreate the raunchy tone and crass humor that made the movies so popular in the first place.

Initial reaction to Ted season 1 was unsurprisingly mixed, with some outlets like The Daily Beast praising the show's hoary humor, while The Hollywood Reporter cited the same humor as its ultimate downfall. In the end, a show like Ted was specifically designed to play to the audience that loved the films, and it succeeded in that regard. Though...

DWTS 'Soul Train Night' Draws Uncanny Comparisons Between a Fan Favorite Contestant and a Nickelodeon Star
Image
There's no question that Olympic gymnast Stephen Nedoroscik and his professional dance partner, Rylee Arnold, have been knocking viewers' socks off throughout Dancing With The Stars Season 33.

Stephen and Rylee have been deemed the most "wholesome" couple on the show by reality television buffs all across the globe in stark contrast with Rylee's Dancing With The Stars Season 32 partnership).

Nevertheless, for those who are unfamiliar with their journey on the popular competition series thus far, Stephen and Rylee have seen a great deal of success, earning a 21 out of 30 on premiere night with their Jive to "Don't Stop Me Now" by Queen.

To follow, they earned a 22 out of 30 on "Oscars Night" with their Paso Doble to "Superman (Main Theme)" by The City of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra.

Last night, the pair participated in "Soul Train Night," recapped here, where they earned a lackluster 30 out of 40 with their Quickstep to "Superstition...

Victorious: Where Robbie Shapiro Actor Matt Bennett Is Now
Image
Matt Bennett's role as Robbie Shapiro in Victorious showcased unique talent and contributed to the diversity of Hollywood Arts students. Bennett continues to act post-Victorious and has appeared in various TV shows and music videos alongside co-star Ariana Grande. In addition to acting, Bennett has transitioned to DJing, highlighting his multi-talented and artistic abilities outside of his acting career.

Nickelodeon's Victorious co-starred Matt Bennett as Robbie Shapiro, one of the students at the elite performing arts school of the series and since his appearance on the show, Bennett has gone to a fascinating career. Victorious is a 2010s show from the tail-end of Nickelodeon's era of producing live-action sitcoms at a significant rate. As such, it maybe doesn't inspire quite the same love and reverence as earlier shows like iCarly, Drake & Josh, and Keenan and Kel. However, it was still a successful program, with a unique setting and talented actors.

17 Wild Secrets Behind Victorious
Image
Victorious was a hit show that ended in 2013 despite a loyal fan base, sparking speculation about its cancellation. Cast members, including Ariana Grande, were rumored to have behind-the-scenes drama, but rumors were later clarified and debunked. Creator Dan Schneider, known for producing Nickelodeon hits, has a history of creating shows around talented performers.

In Nickelodeon's 2010 Victorious pilot, protagonist Tori Vega (Victoria Justice) isn’t looking to be a star, but behind the scenes, the Victorious cast was primed for stardom. When Tori's sister (Daniella Monet) can't perform due to allergies, Tori steps in to fill her sister's place since she's learned all the lines. As a result, she becomes the newest student at Hollywood's high school focused on the performing arts and meets a cast of eccentric classmates.

Victorious was a success that spawned merchandise including video games and CDs of the show’s music. Fans were disappointed when it ended in 2013 after four seasons.

Matt Bennett, the executive vice president of communications at the Motion Picture Association of America, has left the organization.

Known as a megaphone and lobbyist for Hollywood’s major players in Washington, Bennett vacated the top spot weeks ago and has taken a job as spokesperson for American University.

“We thank Matt for the many contributions to the MPAA’s global advocacy and content protection missions. Matt has been a valued colleague, and on behalf of our organization and our Members, we wish him all the success in his future endeavors,” a spokesperson for the group told Variety.

Bennett was appointed by former MPAA Chief Senator Chris Dodd in 2016, who himself was succeeded by TV executive Charles Rivkin in April 2017. Change has been percolating within the group. This year Joan Graves, the longtime chair of the MPAA’s ratings board, retired after 30 years. Kelly McMahon took her place.

MPAA Communications Vets Chris Ortman, Adria Marquez Get Promoted
MPAA communications executives Chris Ortman and Adria Marquez have been promoted to senior vice president and vice president, respectively.

In an email to all employees of the organization, global communications Evp Matt Bennett called the uppings “well-deserved.”

Ortman is chief spokesperson for the film lobbying group, managing media relations. Marquez oversees digital and social media efforts.

Both execs worked on the 50th anniversary commemoration for the movie ratings system last year. Marquez is credited with driving an 82% gain in social followers and redesigning MPAA.org and associated regional websites. Ortman handled projects recently including Charles Rivkin’s arrival as MPAA chairman and CEO in spring 2017 and the expansion and rebranding of the organization’s annual report on film revenue.

Here is the full text of Bennett’s announcement:

5 Things You May Have Missed in Ariana Grande’s ‘Thank U, Next’ Video
Ariana Grande
On Friday, Ariana Grande blessed her fans with the music video for her latest single “Thank U, Next.” The video pays tribute to classic films like “Mean Girls,” “Bring It On” and “Legally Blonde.”

“Thank U, Next” already has 500,000 views in the first two hours of being uploaded to Youtube. That’s partly due to all that’s going on in those five minutes. To make things easy, TheWrap has broken down everything you may have missed while you blacked out from excitement.

Kris Jenner does her best Amy Poehler

Jenner makes an appearance during the “Mean Girls”-inspired Christmas show while Grande and co. dance on stage. Like Poehler in the movie, Jenner is having a little too much fun with that camcorder.

Singer Troyé Sivan gets bullied

Sivan, who starred in the new movie “Boy Erased,” plays one of the high school students gossiping about Grande in the beginning of the video.

With homages to classic rom-coms like Legally Blonde and Mean Girls, Ariana Grande‘s “Thank U, Next” music video is a treat for movie buffs — but there’s also something in it for you TV junkies, specifically those who came of age during Grande’s tenure on Nickelodeon.

I’m referring to the appearances of Elizabeth Gillies (Dynasty), Matt Bennett (American Vandal) and Daniella Monet (Baby Daddy), all of whom co-starred with Grande in the Nick sitcom Victorious, which aired for four seasons from 2010 to 2013. Gillies appears in the Mean Girls portion of the video, doing her best impression of Lindsay Lohan’s Cady Heron,...

Ariana Grande Takes Us to the Movies With Her "Thank U, Next" Video Sneak Peek
Ariana Grande
Ariana Grande is known for having some amazing videos, but she may have topped them all with her "Thank U, Next" masterpiece. Not only is the song the breakup anthem of the century, but the video features movie reenactments from four classic women-led comedies - Legally Blonde, Mean Girls, 13 Going on 30, and Bring It On. And while it feels like we've been waiting forever for the "Thank U, Next" music video, the day is almost here - the video is set to drop Nov. 30! After dropping an epic trailer for the video, Grande released a behind-the-scenes peek at the real thing, and we're Hype.

Following the theme of her homage to The First Wives Club on Ellen, "Thank U, Next" inserts Grande into her favorite movies and, rather than falling into the standard rom-com formula, reinforcing the message of self-love and moving on that the song promotes. Surrounded...

“I’m so down. I keep speaking out of turn and saying I’m ready to do one tomorrow,” the actress, 24, recently told People Now’s Jeremy Parsons and Andrea Boehlke.

Me and Earl and the Dying Girl
Writer Jesse Andrews and director Alfonso Gomez-Rejon overturn the formula for the modern teen comedy: they lay on the quirky storytelling and goofy movie parodies, but also give us characters that are reasonably human and complex. We're soon invested in a warm and rewarding drama. Young actors Thomas Mann, Rj Cyler and Olivia Cooke deal with real problems, and the movie doesn't try to change the subject to sex in every scene. A charming show, very worthwhile. 'Stanford Prison Experiment' director still hasn't heard from the original subjects yet
Jonathan Groff in C.O.G. (2013)
You'll be kicking yourself if you don't see "The Stanford Prison Experiment" in theaters. Seriously. And, no, I'm not just saying that because I happen to know director Kyle Patrick Alvarez socially or that it's a Sundance Jury Award-winning movie or that it depicts one of the most shocking events to occur at one of America's greatest Universities over the past fifty years.* The real reason is that besides the questions it raises about the human condition and our ability to descend to abject cruelty, "Stanford" features a once in a life time cast that will dominate Hollywood for the next 15 to 20 years.* *It also has earned strong reviews to date including a 71 grade on Metacritic and 78% Fresh on Rotten Tomatoes. Based on true events, the new drama chronicles the 1971 psychological experiment that found Stanford University students sorted into the roles of prison guard or a generic prisoner. In theory,...

'The Stanford Prison Experiment' (2015) Movie Review
The Stanford Prison Experiment, a tough, unnerving watch based on a real-life research experiment held in the early '70s at Stanford University, says as much about human nature and the effect of power over both the powerful and the powerless as it does about modern society's penchant for reality television and the constant desire to not only witness, but revel in the downfall of others. Are you a good personc You'd probably say "yes", but how closely are any of us looking when asked the questionc The titular experiment was started by Dr. Philip Zimbardo (played by Billy Crudup), a Stanford professor who took 24 college kids over the summer of 1971 and, with the flip of a coin, assigned twelve to be guards and twelve to be prisoners in a simulated prison on the Stanford campus over the course of two weeks. An ensemble led by the likes of Ezra Miller...

Review: Provocative And Unnerving 'Stanford Prison Experiment' With Ezra Miller, Tye Sheridan, Johnny Simmons, More
This is a reprint of our review from the 2015 Sundance Film Festival. Absolute power corrupts absolutely, and the primal impulses of humanity are revealed with chilling and ugly clarity in psychodrama “The Stanford Prison Experiment.” This year’s “Compliance”—aka the confrontational, abrasive picture at Sundance that polarizes audiences to the point of inspiring screaming matches—‘Stanford’ is even more provocative, as well as more accomplished and thought-provoking. Director Kyle Patrick Alvarez take a quantum leap into left field (his last film was the David Sedaris comic adaptation “C.O.G.”) with this examination of a disturbing true story. In 1971, psychologist Dr. Philip Zimbardo (Billy Crudup) begins the Stanford prison experiment,a landmark study of psychological incarceration examining the effects of authority, power and control as they apply to basic human behavior. With the assistance of his colleagues (James Wolk, Gaius Charles, Matt Bennett) and a real-life San...

2015 Summer Movie Preview: 20 Most Anticipated Movies
The May 1 release of Avengers: Age of Ultron marks the "official" start of the 2015 Summer Movie Season and with that in mind, it's only appropriate to offer up a look forward at what's ahead over the next four months. What is ahead over the next four monthsc Well, a lot of movies that cost a lot of money with a few smaller features mixed in for good measure, and as much as some of us may lament the fact studios have become so franchise focused, it's hard not to admit a desire to see some of these bigger features. As a means of whittling down the flock of films arriving over the next several months I've chosen to take a look at my 20 most anticipated, which does mean there are bound to be some titles I probably ought to mention, but didn't make the list for a variety of reasons.
