The Storyteller Review
Who is Abby? Where did she come from? And why is she here?

This is an enchanting film about a young girl called Abby (Brooklyn Rae Silzer) who somehow sees a fairy nobody else can. She mysteriously turns up out of the blue one night and ends up in the nursing home of an elderly lady called Rosemary (Constance Towers). She gives us the impression that somehow this little girl is her older sister who went missing many years ago, but we’re not quite sure if this is the whole story… or even the story at all. Is Rosemary just old and going mad, or is she telling the truth?

The Storyteller gives us magic, music and heart-warming sensations of love and family. Once broken but now filled with light and laughter again, the Stevens family which consists of Rosemary, her granddaughter Maggie (Samantha Colburn) and Maggie’s adopted...

Crazy Bitches (2014)
Crazy Bitches Movie Review
Crazy Bitches (2014)
Title: Crazy Bitches Director: Jane Clark Starring: Samantha Colburn, Cathy DeBuono, Andy Gala, Liz McGeever, Victoria Profeta, Guinevere Turner, Nayo Wallace, Mary Jane Wells Can a movie be a tonal train wreck if its narrative never really leaves the station? And is there a baseline qualitative bar a project has to clear in order to qualify as either feminine empowerment or subversion? These and other ancillary questions nag at a viewer during ”Crazy Bitches,” written and directed by Jane Clark. After all, a title like that and a narrative slug-line that promises victims “killed by their own vanity” would seemingly augur some type of pleasantly wink- and nudge-filled genre romp. Alas, this [ Read More ]

When the opportunity came to check out a flick entitled Crazy Bitches, I scratched my head in bewilderment. I simply couldn’t believe that someone would make an entire feature film based on my ex-ghoulfriends (why yes, I did utilize the Official Daniel Xiii Easy Joke Generator 2,000™ for that zinger!). Anyway, let’s sharpen our claws and dig inta this f’er and see how crazy these bitches really are!

Well, first things first: these ladies aren’t really all that crazy. A bit over-sexed and vain for sure, but for the most part not...

Crazy Bitches Live Vain and Die Ugly; Watch the Trailer
Last year actress Jane Clark made her feature directorial debut with Meth Head, which she follows up this year with the slasher flick Crazy Bitches. On tap for you today is the trailer for the horror comedy ahead of its premiere at next month's Outfest Film Festival. Dig it!

Written and directed by Jane Clark, the film stars Samantha Colburn, Cathy DeBuono, Andy Gala, Liz McGeever, Victoria Profeta, and Guinevere Turner.

Synopsis

Eight "crazy bitches" reunite for a weekend of gossip and girl-talk at a remote cabin in the woods. A few drinks into their weekend, they learn of a gruesome crime that occurred at their campsite. Dismissing it as a tall tale, the gang continues its celebration with red wine, hanky-panky, and cat-fights – until one of them disappears. As the fun-filled holiday turns into a race against death, the girls turn both to and on each other.

Crazy Bitches (2014)
'Crazy Bitches': First Look at the upcoming slasher satire -- Exclusive
Crazy Bitches (2014)
“Each one of the girls dies a gruesome death, and the killer takes a trophy … things it turns out each girl was most stuck-up about.”

That’s the premise of this slasher horror-comedy with the pull-no-punches title of Crazy Bitches.

Written and directed by Jane Clark (who previously made the gritty, Lukas Haas drug drama Meth Head), the indie film is set for a debut at the Lgbt festivals Frameline (June 26) and OutFest (July 17).

The story tracks a reunion of former sorority sisters and their “one fab gay guy” friend as they head out for a getaway in a prototypical cabin in the woods.

Best Night Ever Movie Review
E.V.J.F Party: Enterrement de vie de jeune fille (2013)
Title: Best Night Ever Directors: Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer Starring: Crista Flanagan, Desiree Hall, Samantha Colburn, Eddie Ritchard Filmmakers Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer have been accused of plenty of crimes against cinema in their careers, so one might not think that their latest effort, “Best Night Ever,” would necessarily hold much surprise. As the writer-directors behind slapdash spoofs like “Date Movie,” “Disaster Movie,” “Meet the Spartans” and others — overwhelmingly critically panned, all — they’ve traded in creatively bankrupt, stick-poke, air-quote satire for more than a half-dozen years. And yet “Best Night Ever” is notable, in that it’s essentially the duo’s first nominally original, non-directly-referential screenplay. So does the [ Read More ]

Exclusive: Taking a Limo Ride With the Ladies of Best Night Ever
E.V.J.F Party: Enterrement de vie de jeune fille (2013)
Riding around Hollywood in a stretch limousine with actresses Crista Flanagan, Samantha Colburn, Desiree Hall and Eddie Ritchard, it seems oddly appropriate, almost fated, that a hitch truck with a single, upright port-a-potty — almost posed, in glorious artistic exhibit — pulls up next to us at a stoplight. After all, the women of “Best Night Ever” — a debauched road trip movie which finds a bride-to-be and her three friends descending upon Las Vegas — grapple with unwanted bodily excretions, Jello wrestling and much more in the film, opening in theaters this week. (They also get kicked out of strip clubs, get mugged, kidnap a valet, get boozy, take [ Read More ]

Exclusive Interview with Cast of ‘Best Night Ever’ in a Limo
Anything that happens in Vegas. Stays in Vegas.

Hilarious comedy “Best Night Ever” is another movie about a group of friends partying in Las Vegas and obviously things do go wrong.

This is the first original comedy from directors Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer, the team that directed spoofs like “Vampires Suck,” “Disaster Movie, and “Meet the Spartans.” However, this movie does sort of mock “The Hangover,” “Project X,” “Spring Breakers,” and “Bridesmaids.”

During the film’s press day earlier this week, actresses Desiree Hall, Samantha Colburn, Eddie Ritchard and Crista Flanagan joined Latino-Review for an interview in a limo. As we’re riding around the city, we talked about the crazy scenes, Las Vegas activities, shooting in public, cut scenes and even trying to order a salad from burger restaurant In N’ Out.

“Best Night Ever” is out in some theaters in major theaters today. The film is also...

Best Night Ever Only Seems Marketed to Women
E.V.J.F Party: Enterrement de vie de jeune fille (2013)
During the course of Best Night Ever's best night ever, it's often unclear what we're watching. The Hangover for girls? An improbable documentary about the perils of white privilege? Extra-softcore porn?

Producer Jason Blum, who also produced the Paranormal Activity franchise, applies the horror series' shaky-cam to this comedy about four women (Desiree Hall, Samantha Colburn, Eddie Ritchard, and the cherubic Crista Flanagan -- bless her, she nearly saves it) who drive out to Vegas for a glam bachelorette party and, after a series of outlandish plot devices, wind up penniless, shoeless, and singing 4 Non Blondes a cappella with the resident of a dumpster.

While this production style, fraught with obstructed views and marathon takes, builds suspense...

SXSW (Short) Review: Out Of Nowhere
Out Of Nowhere is a strange and mysterious film that combines the bizarre mentality of David Lynch with the curious displacement of time and space reminiscent of stories from The Outer Limits or The Twilight Zone. The film could be described as a darker, grittier sort of Groundhog’S Day, but in Will Lamborn’s short film there is no clear and evident happy ending, leaving the audience wondering what the heck just happened… or, more appropriately… what the heck is happening?

This sense of bewilderment is not a negative criticism of Out Of Nowhere. In fact, its what makes the film interesting. Unlike the more readily accessible and standard feature film, a short film has the luxury of bending or even breaking the rules. Filmmakers get to experiment with short films and it produced some rather interesting results. Out Of Nowhere is an example of this experimentation. The story wets the appetite,...
